C19 Silly Girl 19
No Way!
It was a matter of necessity and inevitability. Even if we could do it all over again, the outcome would likely remain unchanged.
Su Lan could never completely disregard Senior Mrs. Su and Senior Mr. Su's wishes.
She had come to terms with it, but it seemed they had not.
She didn't have strong feelings about Lin Huanhuan, but the afternoon's events had left Fengye feeling genuinely repulsed. Stepping aside, her disdain was evident as she frowned and said, "If my point wasn't clear, let me spell it out for you. Rest assured, I have no interest in your man, so there's no need for you to make faces at me."
"As for going too far, Lin Huanhuan, I think you might want to have a doctor examine your head. Weren't you the one talking to yourself in front of me this afternoon? I'm curious, do you suffer from delusions, or is there a cognitive impairment?"
Seeing Lin Huanhuan reduced to tears, Fengye realized talking was futile. She turned to Fu Yunfei and pointed at his face, "Look at yourself. Surely, you're not sick enough to think I still harbor feelings for you? So please, spare me the actions that make me sick. Fu Yunfei, I'm over you, and I'm not interested in playing games. Out of respect for our past, I'll let today's incident slide, but if there's a next time..."
She glanced at the still weeping Lin Huanhuan, "I have more than enough ways to make you regret it."
"And another thing, this is the Su family's home. I, Su Lan, do not welcome you here."
With those harsh words, Fengye left without a backward glance.
She wasn't one to suffer in silence. If Fu Yunfei still hadn't grasped today's lesson, she was ready to make it crystal clear.
Behind the flowerbed, Fengye stopped in her tracks.
Han Kun had arrived unnoticed and had been listening for who knows how long.
Their eyes met, and she saw the shock in his.
"Is there a problem?" she inquired.
Han Kun shook his head vigorously, like a bobblehead. "No, nothing at all."
Fengye breezed past him and entered the house.
The elders were still deep in conversation. With a warm smile, Fengye greeted each of them before discussing company business with the Su family's parents and then heading upstairs.
Shortly after Fengye ascended, Han Kun returned. He explained that Lin Huanhuan wasn't feeling well, so Fu Yunfei had accompanied her home early.
Meanwhile, he found himself lost in thought on the sofa, only snapping out of his daze when his mother called out to him after the party had dispersed.
Senior Mrs. Su was buzzing with excitement in their new home.
Having bid farewell to relatives and friends, she carried a plate of fruit upstairs.
The knock on the door was a familiar one, and Fengye instantly knew it was Senior Mrs. Su.
Her affection for Su Lan was boundless, her tenderness towards her daughter so profound that even her knock was soft.
"Mom."
Senior Mrs. Su, looking at her daughter's face, smiled warmly. "You didn't eat much tonight. Here, have some fruit."
Fengye accepted the fruit plate with a smile. "Mom, you must be tired after today. Get some rest early."
"Okay, Lanlan, you should also get some rest soon."
After exchanging caring inquiries, Fengye saw her mother out and enjoyed the fruits that Senior Mrs. Su had brought. She pondered her next steps in life.
Su Lan's wish was for her parents not to be burdened by her issues with Fu Yunfei.
That goal was nearly achieved; Senior Mrs. Su hadn't fallen ill over the matter, and Senior Mr. Su was doing well.
Su Lan's resolution was to avoid entanglements with Fu Yunfei.
She was determined to live well, to manage the latter half of her life successfully. She, Su Lan, was at her most content and joyful without Fu Yunfei.
And yet, she still needed to find someone to marry...
