C8 Silly Girl 8
Fengye was blunt, "Fu Yunfei has a new girlfriend, and they've made it official. They might even have a child by now. This invitation might just be for you to meet her, so the Su family can finally let go of any hope."
"What?!" Senior Mrs. Su's face went pale, clearly taken aback.
They might have a child? That would mean...
After a brief pause, Senior Mrs. Su slammed her hand on the table, "The Fu family has gone too far. Let's go and confront them."
Fengye massaged her temples and quickly calmed her agitated mother.
"Mom, the Fu family probably had this mindset even before I went abroad." The Su family had been too presumptuous.
Senior Mrs. Su stiffened, her face falling as she looked at her daughter, "Lanlan, I... I..."
She clearly remembered the past events.
Fengye gently coaxed her to sit down, her voice tinged with sadness and resignation, "Mom, you can't blame yourself for what happened. I know you were just concerned about my future. I came back ready to fight for it, but now that Fu Yunfei has moved on, we should too."
"But..."
"Mom, he probably invited you because I've been bothering him. Think about it, wouldn't it be awkward for you to meet her?"
Senior Mrs. Su considered this for a moment, her expression growing more troubled.
"Mom, you don't really think I can't live without Fu Yunfei, do you?"
"Ridiculous! My Lanlan is wonderful, and there are plenty of people who would be lucky to have her!" Senior Mrs. Su declared, though her face betrayed her understanding of the situation. "But Lanlan, you liked him so much..."
"That's why, Mom, it's not hard for your daughter to find a boyfriend at her prime age. There's no need to act as if he's the only one for me."
"I don't like him anymore!" Fengye shook her head. "I used to think he still had feelings for me, but now that he's found someone else, my feelings have changed."
Senior Mrs. Su looked at her, skepticism in her eyes, and asked cautiously, "Really? Are you sure you're okay?"
"No, no, Mom, don't worry. I can handle it," Fengye assured her mother with confidence.
Senior Mrs. Su, somewhat appeased by her daughter's words, decided not to press the issue further. Nevertheless, she couldn't shake off her unease and ended up calling Senior Mr. Su to discuss the matter.
Fengye managed to calm her mother down and kept her company for a while. Once she was certain that her mother had no intention of visiting the Fu family, she headed upstairs for a much-needed shower.
Having been caught in the rain for hours and then breaking out in a feverish sweat in the middle of the night, she felt sticky all over.
Refreshed from her shower, Fengye enjoyed a deep, restful sleep.
The next morning, Senior Mrs. Su had already made plans to play mahjong with friends. Fengye tidied up and, with her purse in tow, set out to purchase a new phone and replace the SIM card she had lost along with her old phone.
No sooner had she inserted the new card into her phone than she received her first call, less than thirty minutes into her walk on the pedestrian street.
She recognized the number and answered, "Hello, what's up?"
There was a brief silence before Fu Yunfei spoke from the other end, "What are you trying to do?"
"What do you mean?" Fengye was puzzled. What had she done to warrant such a question?
The man on the line chuckled dismissively and retorted, "You really don't know what you've done?"
