C2 The Beginning of Evolution
Unlike many of the survivors who were now struggling on the edge of death.
On the street, the zombies with bloody faces were a nightmare for the survivors.
However, in Wu Feng's eyes, those zombies were nothing special. In fact, they could even be said to be prey that was about to be hunted.
There was no other reason.
For the past twenty years, people had been facing those faces every single day. People would gradually get used to their existence if they interacted with them.
In Wu Feng's memory.
Even if it was twenty years later.
These disgusting monsters still existed.
What was even more terrifying was that twenty years later, zombies were no different from humans. They also had thoughts and knew tactics.
Only the zombies in front of them, which had yet to develop intelligence and had rotten flesh, were the most easy low-leveled products to deal with.
"Ah, what a joke this fate is. If I had been reborn a little earlier, I would have been able to call my parents and my sister to warn them that the end is near, and although the memories of my previous life told me that my parents and my sister would live in peace, who knows what might have happened to the world now that even I have been reborn!"
Wu Feng turned his eyes away from the zombies whose heads had been smashed and were lying on the road. He casually fiddled with his phone, which had no signal at all. Unwilling to give up, he pressed the numbers labeled Dad, Mom, and Sis.
He knew that the signal was cut off, but he still instinctively felt a trace of hope.
Wu Feng also wanted to throw the useless phone away.
But after a moment's hesitation, he put it in his pocket. Even in the years that followed the apocalypse, cellular phones couldn't be used to contact people for a long time, but they were a good choice for alarm clocks and watches.
"Find a suitable weapon!"
"It's time to teach the little sweethearts outside a lesson!"
He opened the bedroom door.
Wu Feng was ready to fight in his old white jeans and gray shirt, though his mind was full of fighting skills, incomparable to the weak geek he had once been, who could even kill zombies with his bare hands.
But to be safe.
Wu Feng felt that it was more appropriate to find a suitable weapon.
As for why he was going out to hunt those low-leveled zombies, naturally, it was to collect the brain matter of those zombies and use it to aid his cultivation.
What's more, the sound of these annoying monsters constantly knocking on the iron door outside the anti-theft door was truly disturbing.
In his previous life, Wu Feng had been stuck in his house for nearly ten days by a dried-up zombie outside his door. If he hadn't run out of food, he probably wouldn't have summoned up the courage to dance face to face with the zombie with his kitchen knife.
Even though he had been scratched by the zombie a long time ago and survived, it meant that he was no longer infected by the zombie virus.
But Wu Feng didn't know that at that time.
He just felt that the dried-up zombie was too scary.
Facing a zombie was the same as facing the god of death.
"Crash!"
"Clang!"
The cutlery in the kitchen was thrown around by Wu Feng, the plates and bowls clinking against each other. As for the cleaver that Wu Feng had used as his first weapon in his previous life, he simply tossed it aside without even looking at it.
Finally, Wu Feng found the fruit knife that was used to cut watermelons.
After making a few satisfied gestures with the 35cm long fruit knife, Wu Feng found an empty bucket containing the Golden Dragon Fish oil. He washed it, put it in front of the door, and then slowly grasped the handle of the door.
"Whoosh!"
"Don't worry! I've killed tens of thousands of zombies! How could I be killed by a zombie boy?" Holding the door handle tightly, Wu Feng had thought that he should have been as steady as a mountain, having fought zombies for twenty years in his previous life, but at that moment, his heart began to race.
Outside the door, there was a strong stench of dead bodies. Wu Feng clearly sensed that the rotten zombie was only one foot away from him.
However, although his heart was beating faster, at last, Wu Feng decisively opened the door.
"Roar..." A pair of sharp claws nearly reached Wu Feng's face.
This made Wu Feng break into a cold sweat, but then he calmed down because, despite the fact that the zombie was disgusting and had an unacceptable smell, it was stopped outside the iron security door.
Only two sharp claws were able to reach in, but its whole body was blocked.
"You son of a bitch, how dare you threaten me! Don't worry, I'll turn you into a part of the oil barrel!" Wu Feng spat as he realized what was going on. He was ashamed of his reaction.
Wu Feng was not an ordinary survivor. He was a reincarnator who had inherited the memory of the twenty years of doomsday in his previous life, and yet he was almost scratched by a low-leveled zombie, which made Wu Feng furious. He raised his leg and kicked the zombie's crotch through the crack of the anti-theft door.
"Roar!"
On the spot, the poor zombie staggered and fell to the ground.
It couldn't feel the pain in its crotch, but it couldn't bear Wu Feng's furious kick. By the time it struggled up, Wu Feng had already opened the anti-theft door. Before the zombie attacked again, Wu Feng had mercilessly stabbed the zombie's head with his thirty-five-centimeter-long fruit knife.
"Puff!"
The blood splashed and landed on Wu Feng's hand. The sticky and disgusting feeling caused Wu Feng to be stunned for three seconds, but then the corner of his mouth revealed a strange smile.
Finally, when he saw the blood, the pleasure of killing in his previous life returned.
His heart, which had been beating very fast due to his nervousness, had returned to its normal state. His body seemed to have been stimulated by the blood, and a force that could not be stopped until he spat it out rose up.
That's right.
After his hands had been stained with blood, Wu Feng's emotions had calmed down, because he had found the feeling he had when he was killing zombies in his previous life.
It wasn't because he was a pervert.
It wasn't because he was a pervert.
Instead, it was because he had to kill these creatures who were on the opposite side of the human race. Only by killing them would he be able to get rid of their sins.
"Very well, let's start from here!" Wu Feng looked around at the motionless zombie. At last, he took out the oil drum hidden behind the door and aimed the knife wound on the zombie's forehead at the opening of the barrel.
The zombie's brain didn't turn white, but instead, a sticky, red liquid flowed out of its head.
This liquid looked even more sticky than honey. It was continuously poured into the oil barrel until one-fifth of the bottom of the barrel was dried up.
Satisfied, Wu Feng closed the lid of the oil drum. With a knife in one hand and the barrel in the other, he kicked the body of the zombie aside and turned his eyes toward the end of the corridor.
The screams of zombies kept coming from the stairs. In the corridor, it seemed sad and empty.
"The more brains a zombie has, the better. If I want to complete an evolution as soon as possible, I need to collect enough brain matter. In the apocalypse, if I want to live, I need to make every second count."
Wu Feng's eyes flashed for a moment, and then he made up his mind to kill all the zombies in the old apartment building and collect their brains.
He would turn them into the source of his own evolution.
Wu Feng knew that the brain matter of these ordinary zombies could only satisfy the energy he needed to complete the first evolution, and only after he had completed the first evolution could he practice the Yuan Shen Method.
"Huff!"
"Huff!"
In this corridor that was less than twenty meters away, even though Wu Feng had tried his best not to make any strange sounds, the sound of his breathing still kept echoing in his ears.
One step, two steps, three steps.
Finally, at a certain moment, when Wu Feng approached the corner of the corridor, his sharp senses allowed him to jump out while handing over the fruit knife in his hand.
At the same time, the roar of a zombie could be heard in his ears.
"Roar!"
It was a male zombie in a grey suit, covered in blood. He was clearly a head taller than the one guarding Wu Feng's door, and much stronger, but no matter how strong he was, after Wu Feng's precise stab to the temple, his claws only reached Wu Feng's eyes before they dropped powerlessly.
The strong body fell to the ground.
"YES, take care of the second one!" Wu Feng was so excited that he pulled out his knife and quickly opened the lid of the barrel. He continued to collect the brain matter of the zombies. After killing two zombies in a row, Wu Feng's movements became more cautious and smooth.
There were about six zombies on the stairs and in the hallway. Wu Feng took care of them one by one.
By the time he had killed the last few zombies, Wu Feng had killed them as easily as killing a chicken or a fish. However, the short victory did not dispel the sense of crisis in Wu Feng's heart, because he knew that it was not surprising that he could kill these ordinary zombies.
Not to mention the fact that he, a man who had survived the apocalypse for twenty whole years, most of the survivors in this city had the ability to fight ordinary zombies.
As long as they didn't panic and weren't surrounded by a group of zombies, they had a high chance of surviving.
The reason that eighty or ninety percent of the population had died a week after the apocalypse was that humans were, after all, gregarious creatures, with too many people, and the more densely populated the area, the less likely the survivors would be to survive if they were infected by a genetic virus and turned into zombies.
According to the memories of his previous life, Wu Feng was able to determine that the speed of these ordinary zombies was about the same as that of ordinary young men, and their strength was 1.5 times that of ordinary adults. However, when they had an advantage, they also had a disadvantage, and that was that these low-leveled zombies hunted humans by relying entirely on their sense of smell and touch to determine the direction of their prey. Their optical nerves were already dead, and they could not particularly accurately capture the movements and positions of humans.
So, no matter how easy Wu Feng felt it would be to deal with a zombie, he would not go downstairs to face the zombies on the street in a short time, because once he was surrounded by them, even if he succeeded in evolution, he might not be able to withstand the countless claws and teeth.
The feeling of having his flesh torn off would definitely make anyone break down.
In the end, it would become the food of the zombies.
