C45 There will be a Transfer Student in Yi Lanyou's Class Soon
Lin Xiaorou watched Yi Lanyou and the other two exchange glances with jealousy and resentment burning in her gaze.
Why? Lin Xiaorou so desperately wanted to be Yi Lanyou's good friend. Why should Wang Xiaoman and Zhang Ya be Yi Lanyou's good friends instead? And where did that leave Lin Xiaorou?
Lin Xiaorou had set her sights on being Yi Lanyou's sole good friend. That way, she could take full advantage of Yi Lanyou's connections. Wang Xiaoman and Zhang Ya couldn't be allowed to ruin Lin Xiaorou's plans!
After the roll call was completed, Yi Lanyou and Wang Hongfei returned to their seats. Bai Yiming approached the podium with an air of mystery and announced, "I have a secret to share with everyone."
"What secret, teacher?"
"Teacher, have you found a girlfriend?" someone teased.
"Could it be that you're getting married, Teacher?"
"That's unlikely! The teacher isn't even wearing a ring."
Bai Yiming was not your typical authoritative teacher. He got along well with the students, who often teased him, and he never took offense. His good nature was well-known throughout the class.
"Teacher! Don't tell me you're gay and have found a partner?!"
"No way, right? Teacher, is what they're saying true?"
"That's a lot to take in!"
Bai Yiming dismissed the comments with a wave of his hand. "Stop the wild guesses. I'm a man, and I'm interested in women—that's not going to change."
"So, what's the secret?" the students asked eagerly, all eyes on him.
"We're getting a new transfer student," Bai Yiming explained. "The principal has decided to place the transfer student in our class. They'll be joining us once the semester starts in October."
"Is the transfer student a boy or a girl?"
"How are their grades?"
"Where are they transferring from?"
The students bombarded him with questions, clearly intrigued by the prospect of a new classmate.
"I don't have all the details, but the transfer student is likely a girl," Bai Yiming said. "The student's name is Han Jinxiang, so she's probably a girl, right?"
"Han Jinxiang? That definitely sounds like a girl's name," the students agreed, nodding among themselves.
Yi Lanyou chuckled to herself, realizing she had completely forgotten about Han Jinxiang amidst recent events. In her past life, a new student had transferred to her school after October 1st, named Han Jinxiang, a male.
Han Jinxiang came from a powerful background but was academically challenged. To secure his admission to City No. 1 High School, his father made a generous donation of a library to the institution.
Previously, Han Jinxiang had been deeply infatuated with Lin Xiaorou, demonstrating unwavering loyalty to her. Following high school, he pursued her to a university abroad. Upon completing his university education, Han Jinxiang went as far as to establish a company for Lin Xiaorou. Her success in the latter part of her life was undeniably aided by Han Jinxiang's support.
Lin Xiaorou had always accepted Han Jinxiang's affections, yet she maintained a distance from him. Yi Lanyou now pondered her past actions; even during the chaos of Lin Xiaorou's wedding, she hadn't seen Han Jinxiang. Yi Lanyou was also clueless about how Lin Xiaorou had managed to distance herself from him at the time.
Did Lin Xiaorou deceive Han Jinxiang with lies? Or did she, like her treatment of Yi Lanyou, coldly discard Han Jinxiang after using him?
These were no longer concerns for Yi Lanyou. Her current curiosity lay in what fate had in store for Han Jinxiang in this life, full of so many changes. Would he continue to harbor feelings for Lin Xiaorou?
If so, Yi Lanyou found herself somewhat looking forward to it. Could this mean a formidable figure was about to emerge?
After some idle conversation, the door was abruptly opened. A bald middle-aged man, Director Li, frowned as he addressed Bai Yiming, "Teacher Bai, there you are."
"What seems to be the issue, Director Li?" Bai Yiming inquired, turning to Li Baoqiang.
"The entire hallway is quiet except for your class," Li Baoqiang remarked with displeasure. "Teacher Bai, you need to keep your class in order."
"Okay," Bai Yiming nodded.
Li Baoqiang snorted coldly and then closed the door as he left.
Bai Yiming turned to his classmates with a helpless shrug.
The students mirrored his gesture and collectively sighed.
Shortly after, the bell signaled the end of class. Bai Yiming clapped his hands and announced, "Everyone, be safe on your way home and watch out for traffic."
"Goodbye, teacher."
"See you tomorrow, teacher."
"Bye, teacher."
The students waved goodbye to Bai Yiming, who waved back, reminding those biking home to take extra care.
"Youyou, I'm off to my tutoring class, bye!" Wang Xiaoman waved. "Zhang Ya, bye!"
"Bye, see you tomorrow," Zhang Ya waved back to Wang Xiaoman.
"See you tomorrow," Yi Lanyou said, slinging her backpack over her shoulder and waving her hand.
"Youyou, Zhang Ya, hold on a moment," Bai Yiming called out to the two as they were about to leave. "Could you both stop by my office?"
Yi Lanyou and Zhang Ya exchanged glances, then nodded and followed Bai Yiming to his office.
Curious, Lin Xiaorou trailed behind Yi Lanyou and Zhang Ya. Once Yi Lanyou, Zhang Ya, and Bai Yiming were inside the office, Lin Xiaorou crouched by the door to eavesdrop.
"Please, have a seat," Bai Yiming said, sitting down and indicating the chairs opposite him for Yi Lanyou and Zhang Ya.
"No need, teacher, we can stand," Yi Lanyou replied, looking at Bai Yiming. "Is there something you needed from us?"
"Don't be nervous; I'm not going to bite," Bai Yiming said with a smile. "Sit down, let's have a chat."
"Alright," Yi Lanyou and Zhang Ya finally sat down, turning their attention to Bai Yiming.
"Here's the situation. There are three things I need to discuss with you. First, regarding the new transfer student I mentioned today, Han Jinxiang—the principal mentioned his grades need improvement and asked me to find someone to tutor him privately. One of you is the top student in our class, and the other is the class president. I'm hoping you two can offer Han Jinxiang some extra help," Bai Yiming explained, looking at Yi Lanyou and Zhang Ya. "Of course, it's up to you whether you'd like to do this."
"If it won't interfere with my own affairs, I don't mind," Zhang Ya pondered before responding.
Upon hearing Zhang Ya's agreement, Yi Lanyou, who had initially been inclined to decline, nodded in assent. "Once I've wrapped up my own tasks, I'll lend a hand with Han Jinxiang."
"That's wonderful," Bai Yiming said with an evident sigh of relief. "I've heard that Han Jinxiang is quite the troublemaker. He's been through six middle schools already. High school has only been in session for a month, and he's already been expelled from two. Ours is his third."
"Teacher," Yi Lanyou said with a skeptical squint, "are you trying to give us a hard time?"
"Not at all," Bai Yiming chuckled awkwardly. "I have faith in you both. I trust in your capabilities and integrity. However, if you ever find you no longer wish to tutor Han Jinxiang, or if you encounter any issues in communicating with him, feel free to come to me at any time."
"Alright then," Zhang Ya said, shaking her head with a resigned sigh.
"Teacher, what's the second issue?" Yi Lanyou asked, shrugging her shoulders with a sigh.
