C9 She Blamed Lv Zheng
Lv Zheng was taken aback. Upon taking another look at Yi Lanyou, he noticed she exuded a commanding presence without showing any sign of anger. He hesitated, unsure of how to proceed.
"Are you deaf or mute?" Yi Lanyou leaned against the desk nearby, arms crossed over her chest. "Can't you understand plain English?"
"I understand, Miss," Lv Zheng replied, his wit quick to catch up. Hearing Yi Lanyou's tone, he responded promptly.
"I've just arrived at Yi's mansion. Even though I've grown apart from my father and grandfather, we're still family," Yi Lanyou said. "Lv Zheng, how long have you been here at Yi's mansion?"
"Five years," Lv Zheng answered.
Yi Lanyou arched an eyebrow.
"Five years, Miss," Lv Zheng quickly corrected himself.
"Five years isn't a short time. If you ever feel you've had enough, just let me know. Although I don't wield much power, I can still dismiss a servant," Yi Lanyou said with a sly smile.
"Miss, you..." Lv Zheng was taken aback. A position at Yi's mansion was highly coveted—generous employers, a sought-after workplace—why would he ever give it up?
"We're aware of your intentions. If you're clever, you'll drop those underhanded tactics that won't get you anywhere," she said.
"Miss, you've misunderstood," Lv Zheng said, his palms beginning to sweat. For some reason, as he locked eyes with Yi Lanyou, he found himself at a loss for words.
Yi Lanyou turned and commanded coldly, "Leave."
"Yes, Miss," Lv Zheng said as he left her room. Reaching the staircase at the end of the hallway, he lost his balance and collapsed to the ground, his back soaked with sweat.
It was clear that Yi Lanyou wasn't someone to be trifled with. He had mistakenly thought she was an easy target.
Her words, her demeanor—they were not those of an ordinary sixteen-year-old girl.
After the door closed, Yi Lanyou exhaled deeply and reclined on the soft bed, a cold laugh escaping her as she surveyed the room: she was back in this place once more.
At the dinner table, she had realized she could hear Fang Fang's inner thoughts, but not those of anyone else. Even back at her own home, she couldn't hear Yuan Hui's inner voice.
Yi Lanyou realized that the extraordinary ability she had accidentally acquired came with limitations. She was unable to hear the inner thoughts of those who shared her bloodline. Since she had only been reborn for a few days, she was still unaware of any other potential restrictions or side effects that might accompany her newfound power. With this in mind, Yi Lanyou resolved to use her ability sparingly. After all, if the side effects included a shortened lifespan, she could potentially die before she had the chance to exact her revenge.
This was unacceptable!
She pulled out her phone and glanced at the date. It was August 21st. Only six days remained until the banquet, and the new school term was nine days away. Yi Lanyou locked her phone screen and closed her eyes. The gentle visage of Lin Xiaorou floated into her mind.
"Hello, my name is Lin Xiaorou. What a coincidence that we're deskmates! Can we be good friends?"
Yi Lanyou's eyes snapped open, filled with fury. She bolted upright.
Good friends? Lin Xiaorou, do you even deserve such a title?
Her fists were clenched tightly as she took several deep breaths to quell the rage within her.
Approaching the window, Yi Lanyou tried to relax. The image of a man's face came to her, causing her to frown slightly. She had wronged him first by breaking off their engagement and having a child with another man, turning him into the laughingstock of Z City. Yet, despite his pride, he hadn't sought retribution. Instead, he had offered her support during her darkest times, encouraging her to keep living.
Regrettably, she had already resolved to end her life along with those two scoundrels and had turned away his kindness.
The tribulations of her past life had taught her the fickleness of human affection. She had endured many hardships. If given the opportunity in this life, she vowed to repay his generosity.
