C15 He Was Convinced
At least he’s got a good head on his shoulders, not just some reckless bravery.
But then again, how did he manage to lose his senses when it came to marriage? Sure, he's at that age where desires run high, but couldn’t he use the same savvy he has in business to think things through? Didn’t he consider the consequences?
“Dad, first I have to admit, you’re a man of courage and wisdom, worthy of admiration.”
Qin Guangjun smirked, looking at his daughter with a hint of amusement.
“Now you’re trying to butter me up? Where did that threatening tone go, huh?”
Qin Su looked at Qin Guangjun earnestly, speaking her mind clearly.
“But she’s my mom. She carried me for nine months and brought me into this world. Just for that, I can’t stand by and watch you push her to the edge. Dad, you’re capable, you can do anything, but my mom is different. She’s a fragile woman who can’t take that kind of blow.
All I’m saying is, if you ever wrong her and she finds out, I’ll definitely be on her side!”
Qin Guangjun felt a pang of frustration. Couldn’t they have a normal conversation? Why was she so stubborn, always getting stuck on one point?
Did he really have to back down to his daughter, maybe even swear an oath or something?
“Listen, I’ve never thought about divorcing your mom, you understand? Kiddo, do you really think your dad is that careless?”
"I've been with your mom for over ten years now, and there's a deep bond between us. You can't just end things like that. You're too young to understand. Even if I messed up a bit outside, I still know what's important. I was just looking for a thrill, but I promise, it was a one-time thing. Can you forgive your dad this once, sweetheart? Don't make a fuss."
"Let's see how you behave from now on. I might cover for you this time, but don't count on it happening again."
Qin Guangjun wiped his face, feeling like he'd failed as a father. His daughter was giving him such a hard time, and he couldn't figure out why.
Meanwhile, Qin Su came home with a backpack full of documents, looking for a place to stash them. Her dad had mentioned that her mom didn't know about their family's wealth, so they couldn't reveal it all at once.
"Don't want to scare your mom," her dad had said.
Qin Su wanted to roll her eyes at her dad. She couldn't tell if he was genuinely concerned about her mom or had other motives.
She calmly took a cab home, but as soon as she stepped inside, she heard a woman crying. Her heart skipped a beat. Could her mom have found out something?
She rushed into the living room and froze, staring at the two women on the couch, both with their heads in their hands, crying. One was her mom, Hsing Guizhen, and the other?
It was actually her Aunt Guilan!
Oh my gosh. Qin Su's mind buzzed as she suddenly remembered that in her past life, something had happened to her aunt's family around this time too. Her uncle-in-law had cheated, and her aunt caught him red-handed when she unexpectedly returned home. Qin Su didn't know the details, but she knew her aunt had caused quite a scene and ended up divorcing him. Aunt Guilan would rather leave with nothing than stay with that jerk.
She immediately ran to their house, and at that time, her grandparents still didn't know. Her aunt hadn't dared to go back to her parents' house yet.
Oh no, how could she be so forgetful? She had been so caught up in her own problems that she completely forgot about this.
"Mom, Aunt Guilan, what's going on?"
Hsing Guizhen wiped her tears.
"Oh, it's nothing, just some trouble over at your aunt's. Don't ask too much, okay?"
