Sheng Zhenxi reached for the broom and gave it a hard shove. Miao Xiu was knocked over.
When someone hits your wife, that's crossing a line. Sheng Zhenbei rushed out, remembering the harsh words from the third family when he had asked for help. They had cursed his whole family, wishing them dead and wanting nothing to do with them. And now they were fighting over borrowing things!
Sheng Zhenbei and Sheng Zhenxi started brawling, while Lin Ya and Miao Xiu got into it. Sheng Nanzhen was definitely going to help; she ran over and grabbed the back of Lin Ya's collar. Lin Ya felt a jolt like an electric shock, leaving her hands weak.
Miao Xiu took the chance to grab Lin Ya's hair, messing it up into a tangled mess. "Lin Ya, from today on, you're not allowed to step foot in my house again." No one can stand being cursed at in their own home, especially after her daughter’s miraculous recovery. Miao Xiu wouldn’t tolerate any curses against her daughter; she’d fight anyone who dared.
Lin Ya was left defenseless. Sheng Zhenxi moved to help his wife, but Sheng Nanzhen picked up the broom and swung it at him. Sheng Zhenxi ended up on his knees.
Sheng Nanzhen said, "Third Uncle, if you're going to apologize to my dad, just do it quickly. No need to make a big show and then not say sorry."
Sheng Zhenxi seemed a bit dazed, not sure how he ended up kneeling just moments ago. Hearing the commotion outside, Sheng Nancun rolled up his sleeves and rushed out.
Sensing things were off, Sheng Zhenxi quickly tugged at Lin Ya, saying, "Let's head back."
The couple left in a hurry.
Only then did Sheng Zhenbei ask, "Dad, Mom, what's Third Aunt-in-law up to now?"
"They're after this pair of gold earrings," Miao Xiu explained, adding to her son, "No one should even think about these earrings. I plan to give them to your sister as part of her dowry."
Who would dare oppose that? With so many brothers, giving them to anyone else would cause issues, but giving them to his sister was perfectly acceptable. No one had a word to say against it.
Even Sheng Nanzhen was a bit surprised by his brothers' lack of objection.
"Mom, don't let this ruin your morning. Let's make breakfast; I'm starving."
Miao Xiu replied, "I'll make some pancakes."
As Sheng Zhenxi and Lin Ya left Zhenbei's home, they still couldn't quite grasp what had just happened, leaving in a rather embarrassed state.
Lin Ya asked, "What do we do now?"
Without gold, there's no way to get a bride!
The woman's demands are just too much; it's like she's asking for the moon. A gold necklace, earrings, bracelet, ring, and even an anklet... All this for marrying someone from the countryside? The fourth son's family is already struggling; all they have left is that pair of earrings. And now they can't even get those... They really don't know what to do anymore. But they're stuck because their son isn't quite like everyone else.
Sheng Zhenxi even blames Lin Ya, saying if he hadn't spoken those words, there wouldn't have been any trouble with Sheng Nanzhen. Lin Ya refuses to admit he was wrong: "I didn't say anything wrong. She's just unlucky."
"Unlucky? She's doing just fine, isn't she?"
Lin Ya truly doesn't know how to explain Sheng Nanzhen's recovery. It just feels eerie. Someone who had clearly passed away, even Sheng Zhenbei went to ask for help. Who wants to deal with bad luck during the holidays?
