C16 Unable to Move Home
The newly hatched chicks were fluffy and adorable. Sheng Nanzhen's eyes lit up instantly.
"Mom, how many chickens do we have?"
"Fifteen grown chickens."
"What about ducks?"
"Twelve. Don't worry, I've saved some eggs for you. You'll have plenty to eat."
Sheng Nanzhen shook her head and looked toward the pond ahead, which must have had over a hundred geese!
Their chickens and ducks were all kept for laying eggs. Sheng Tianjiao's family had a pond and an aunt with some connections, allowing them to sell their geese in large batches. Other folks in Azure Mountain Village weren't as fortunate.
Sheng Nanzhen was thinking about starting a side business.
"Zhen, what kind of side business are we going to start? Right now, your dad and brother are the ones farming, and they still have to pay the grain tax. If they don't farm, how will they pay it?"
"Mom, who owns the land with the bamboo near our house? Can we use it to raise chickens?" Their area was bustling with people, but poverty and illness often plagued the family.
She could prescribe medicine for herself and get better, but soon after, someone else in the family would fall ill, or she'd inevitably face some mishap. Sometimes, luck and fate defy logic and even science can't explain them.
Although she used a bagua mirror to ward off some negative energy, it felt like a drop in the bucket.
The main thing is, they can't move right now, so they have to improve their current surroundings on Thursday.
"It's not anyone's; it's the village's."
"Let's talk to the village chief and see if we can get the land to raise chickens." That way, she could deal with those bamboo clumps directly...
"Raising chickens?" Miao Xiu frowned.
Where would they get the money for feed?
"Mom, let's discuss this with Dad. We're already farming every day at home. If we pen the chickens and plant some fruit, we'll have two sources of income."
Miao Xiu: "Let's wait until your dad gets back."
Sheng Nanzhen: "Okay."
...
At the hospital, because the cut on Sheng Tianjiao's cheek was so long, it needed stitches. The doctor said there would definitely be a scar, and upon hearing this, Sheng Tianjiao nearly flipped the hospital bed.
Yang Shuxian also felt a bit regretful. A small scar on such a pretty face really does make a difference, but he couldn't say that. Instead, he said, "A tiny scar won't matter."
Yang Shuxian's reassurance made Sheng Tianjiao feel a bit better.
Wanting to maintain her image in front of Yang Shuxian, Sheng Tianjiao asked, "Mr. Xian, will you stop wanting me because of a little scar on my face?"
Yang Shuxian replied, "What nonsense are you talking about? How could I ever reject you over a tiny scar? I'll only cherish you more."
"Those words are sweeter than honey, and Tianjiao loves hearing them."
Yang Shuxian said, "I'll go check with the doctor first."
"Alright..."
When Tianjiao arrived at the hospital, not only was Yang Shuxian there, but her father, Sheng Guan, had also come.
"Why did you let him bring you here?"
He never approved of his daughter being with Yang Shuxian. Even though Yang Shuxian was the brother of the village chief, he wasn't the chief's biological son but an orphan. Sheng Guan had heard that Yang Shuxian didn't have an easy life in the village.
Their family raised chickens, ducks, and geese, and business had been decent over the past couple of years. So, why couldn't his daughter find a man with better financial prospects?
"Dad, look at me now..." Tianjiao was set on Yang Shuxian because she knew he was destined to be someone significant.
