C3 Not Letting Her Run Around!

Seeing his daughter's determination, Mr. Sheng finally said, "Your brother's condition wasn't serious at first, but we couldn't find a doctor, and now you, your fourth brother, and fifth brother all have upset stomachs..." He sighed deeply.

Sheng Nanzhen furrowed her brow. How long would it take before they could find someone? It seemed too coincidental to her.

Since Nanzhen insisted on seeing her brother, Mr. Sheng had no choice but to help her into the next room. Her two brothers lay on the bed, looking quite unwell. Mr. Sheng helped her sit down.

"Dad, I'll sit here for a bit. You go help Mom," Nanzhen said.

"Are you sure?" he asked.

"Yes," she nodded.

As soon as her father left, she reached out to feel her older brother's forehead. It was burning hot! Quickly, she checked Sheng Nanshui's pulse, then moved to her second brother, Sheng Nancun. The more she checked, the deeper her frown grew.

Mrs. Miao came in with a bowl of porridge. "Nanzhen, have some porridge."

"Mom, why have my brothers been sick for so long?" Nanzhen asked.

Mrs. Miao sighed, "After your accident, we had no doctor in the village, and the town doctor was away. We couldn't get to the city." Plus, it was New Year's Eve, and all the doctors had gone home.

Mrs. Miao's brow was tightly knit. So much had happened at once, and they didn't have the money to treat their sons.

Sheng Nanzhen noticed her mom's troubled expression and, drawing from the original owner's memories, had a pretty good idea of what was going on.

She said, "I'll step out for a bit."

There was no point in looking for a doctor; she was a doctor herself.

Miao Xiu saw her daughter trying to get off the bed and was startled. "What are you doing?"

Miao Xiu wasn't about to let her run around.

"Mom, with my brother's condition, we can't wait any longer. We need to bring his fever down immediately."

"I'll get some alcohol to wipe him down," Miao Xiu said. She had been too heartbroken over her daughter's previous condition to focus on much else. Now, she could finally spare some attention for her son.

Physical cooling—this could work!

"Mom, hurry and get some alcohol to cool him down. I'll go find some herbs."

"Do you even know what herbs to look for? Let your dad handle it."

"Mom, how's my third brother? Let Dad take care of him."

"Your third brother broke a bone and can't move. He's at the village clinic." After what happened to their daughter, they hadn't had the time or energy to bring him back.

The village clinic? Sheng Nanzhen couldn't go there now. A broken bone usually isn't life-threatening, but her two brothers here were in a more critical state.

"What do you need? Let your dad find it."

"Mom, I'm fine. I'm feeling a bit better now."

Her brother ended up like this because of her. Even though she had a new soul, she couldn't just ignore it.

Daughter insisted on going out, and Miao Xiu said, "Let your dad go with you."

"Let Dad go pick up Third Brother and bring him home."

The village clinic was in terrible shape. There wasn't a single decent doctor around. The only one who could prescribe medicine did so just because he could read and recognize drug names. Calling him a doctor was a stretch; as long as he didn't harm anyone, it was considered good enough.

She was in a hurry and had no choice but to make these arrangements.

Fourth and Fifth Brothers both had upset stomachs, and since their house didn't have a bathroom, they had to use the public restroom whenever they had diarrhea.

Miao Xiu didn't want Sheng Nanzhen to go out, but seeing her son burning up with fever, she couldn't worry about anything else.

Sheng Nanzhen felt like she could still manage, so she grabbed a pole and headed out.
