There was no smog, no clatter of machines, no modern electronic devices—everything was so simple. Yingchu looked at the pond ahead, glanced up at the sky, and then back at the dilapidated house behind her, which seemed ready to collapse at any moment. On the ground beside her were wriggling worms, her prepared bait.
Having accepted her reality, her gaze was calm. This was her current place of refuge. Occasionally, she could still hear the voice from before her rebirth, echoing in her ears: "Energy is about to run out, energy is about to run out..."
Later, she felt a force tear her apart from her body, followed by a flash of blinding white light. When she opened her eyes, she found herself lying lifelessly on a hardwood plank in the Gu family's small cabin. The only source of light in the room was a small window with a few vertical green wooden bars, resembling a prison cell.
Recalling the moment of her rebirth, Yingchu furrowed her brow. She was supposed to be conducting experiments on a newly launched spaceship in 2083. However, an unprecedented cosmic storm struck, and as the ship exploded, Qiuqiu used its last resources to send her away. Unexpectedly, it only managed to transport her soul over a hundred years back in time...
This woman, also known as Gu Yingchu, has been searching for Qiuqiu ever since she woke up, but there's been no trace. Her hand reaches for her neck, where a pendant hangs—a rose-patterned rhodochrosite piece.
The original Gu Yingchu had jumped into the river to end her life. "She" was pulled back, tossed into a small room like a lifeless body. As the daughter of the Gu family's main house, she was treated worse than a dog.
The final straw was when Gu Yingchu was accused of "seducing" her cousin's husband. After being whipped by her family, she jumped into the river. During that time, Dung Qiu knelt outside, begging the Gu family to release her, but the matriarch ignored her pleas.
At that moment, Gu Yingchu had only one thought: how did Qiuqiu send her to this godforsaken era? At least send her twenty years into the future...
In these tough times, she was stuck with a dreadful family. With nothing to eat upon waking, Gu Yingchu, after Dung Qiu sneaked her some sweet potato peels, boldly left with Dung Qiu amidst the cold stares and insults from the Gu family. They wouldn't even give her the peels meant for pigs. How could she stay?
Moreover, she was inherently strong-willed. Expecting her to endure such humiliation was simply impossible.
Gu Yingchu had finally pieced together the truth: Gu Chengwang was disabled, and when Dung Qiu married him, she was already pregnant. The family had no idea, which allowed her to stay with them. But once Lin Manru and her family arrived, everything turned upside down. Lin Manru was the first to discover that Gu Yingchu wasn't Gu Chengwang's daughter and exposed the secret.
Initially, the situation wasn't entirely hopeless for Yingchu, but Hsu Sheng made it worse. Not only did he try to assault her, but he also falsely accused her of seducing him. It was a baseless claim, yet Lin Manru, with her persuasive words, managed to twist the truth. Coupled with the revelation that Yingchu wasn't Chengwang's biological daughter, the evidence against her seemed insurmountable in the eyes of the family matriarch.
