C12 He Didn't Want to Change

Gu Chengwang was momentarily taken aback. "Is that really the case?"

Lin Manru turned to Lin Yan, "Aunt, look at this. They're threatening me."

"We'll deal with your issues later. I'm tired of this," Lin Yan waved her hand dismissively, aware that the onlookers were enjoying the spectacle of their family drama.

Gu Hann, with a stern expression, addressed the group, "Everyone, sit down. Causing a scene here is unacceptable."

The recent events in the village had become the talk of the town, turning the Gu family into a local joke. Why couldn't they just keep it together?

Gu Chengwang sat silently, unaware of what had transpired with Gu Yingchu. He had been out that day, and by the time he returned in the early hours, he found out his wife had left.

"Everyone needs to calm down. There's nothing that can't be resolved, and resorting to violence isn't a man's strength," Gu Hann added.

Gu Yingchu, noticing the red mark on Dung Qiu's face, spoke coldly, "Acting tough in the village makes you no better than a thug."

"That's enough, Gu Yingchu!" Lin Yan exclaimed, jumping up.

Gu Yingchu replied, "We were living peacefully until you stirred things up. Whether it's enough or not depends on you."

By now, a crowd had gathered outside to watch the commotion. Lin Yan felt embarrassed, wanting to retort, but Gu Yingchu's words left her speechless.

Gu Hann plopped down into the chair, puffing on his pipe. After taking a drag and blowing out a smoke ring, he finally looked at Gu Chengwang. "Be a man and speak for yourself. Don't make it hard on your wife and daughter."

Gu Chengwang simply said, "I don't agree to the divorce."

Gu Hann then turned his gaze to Dung Qiu.

Dung Qiu's tone was firm and clear: "Divorce."

The old village chief looked over at Lin Yan.

Lin Yan shook her head and said, "Don't look at me. I've already said my piece. Our family won't raise someone else's child."

Thinking about all the food Gu Yingchu had consumed over the years made her heart ache. She wasn't about to raise another person's child.

"In that case, let's take a break. Give both of you some time to cool off," Gu Hann said slowly after taking a few more puffs of his pipe.

Gu Chengwang nearly jumped up at the village chief's suggestion. "I don't agree."

"You don't agree? Your mom kicked her out, and everyone's upset right now. Let's all just go home for now."

After saying this, Gu Hann didn't look at either side again. He had plenty to do. The village needed to focus on production, and there were always so many things to handle. He didn't have time to keep solving their family issues. Just a few days ago, the whole village was turned upside down because of Gu Yingchu's incident at the river.

Now, because of Dung Qiu and Gu Chengwang, he didn't feel like talking anymore. Gu Chengwang disagreed, feeling that continuing the conversation would lead nowhere.

"Well, we're heading out now," Gu Yingchu said as she stood up, ready to leave, not wanting to say more.

"Yingchu, the house you're staying in is about to collapse. It's not a good situation for you two. You need to think long-term," Gu Hann advised. He wanted to add, "You should come home," but instead, he said, "If you want to come back, just apologize, and we can put the past behind us."

Gu Yingchu was taken aback by Gu Hann's last comment. She looked at him and replied, "There's no need. I stand by what I said."

After speaking, Gu Yingchu slowly lifted her head again. "If the village can't help us, I believe the town will be able to."
