C6 The Attitude of His Words
Early this morning, Manru heard that Dung Qiu had traded a fish for some rice last night. She didn't believe it at first, but it turned out they really did have a fish.
Gu Chengwang stood at the door, his face stern, one sleeve hanging empty.
Dung Qiu had always been afraid of Gu Chengwang. Under his gaze, her face showed inexplicable panic, and her hands even trembled slightly.
"Well, who gave you that?" Manru speculated that Dung Qiu and Yingchu must have found some man to help them. Otherwise, how could two women who couldn't even catch a chicken manage to get a fish?
When they were kicked out, Manru thought they'd have a tough time. Surprisingly, they were eating better than she was at the Gu family home. She even caught herself licking her lips at the sight of simple fish porridge.
Seeing Yingchu watching her, Manru covered her mouth with her hand, laughing mockingly.
Gu Chengwang's face darkened further at Manru's words.
Since they had no furniture, the mother and daughter had been eating on the floor. Yingchu slowly put down her bowl, stood up, and looked at the people in front of her, a sarcastic smile on her lips. "What are you still doing here?" she asked.
With only one arm, Gu Chengwang lacked some authority, and Yingchu no longer looked at him with any fear. He hadn't expected that during his time away, the news that Yingchu wasn't his biological daughter would spread. Not only had the mother and daughter left home, but they also refused to return. He glared fiercely at Dung Qiu.
Dung Qiu pulled Yingchu behind her. Despite her fear, she stood tall and said, "If there's a problem, deal with me. Leave the child out of it."
"Deal with you? Of course, it's about you," Gu Chengwang stepped forward and gave Dung Qiu a shove. She stumbled back a few steps, caught by Yingchu.
Yingchu glared coldly at Gu Chengwang, "What do you want? We have nothing to do with the Gu family anymore. Why are you here?"
"Nothing to do with us? Who said that?" Gu Chengwang's face was icy.
With no hint of fear, Yingchu replied, "Grandma Gu said so."
She didn't even call her "grandma" anymore. Such a troublesome family wasn't worth it.
Lin Manru noticed the fish still swimming in the bucket, a glint in her eye. "Cousin, there's still a fish in the bucket. I wonder who your wife found after leaving home to get so many fish."
Yingchu released Lin Manru and carried the bucket inside. After taking care of things, she turned to Gu Chengwang, "The Gu family already kicked us out. If you keep bothering us, I'll get the village chief involved."
"Is that how you talk to me?" Gu Chengwang's eyes burned with cold fury, as if he wanted to incinerate Yingchu.
Yingchu met his gaze fearlessly, "Are you leaving, or should we go to the village committee?"
Lin Manru thought Gu Yingchu must have lost her mind to speak like that. But then again, she never showed a kind face to anyone in the Gu family, as if she was possessed.
Gu Chengwang glared at Gu Yingchu, his voice booming with anger, "You have no right to speak in front of me."
"Then please leave," Gu Yingchu replied, making it clear she had no desire to talk to Gu Chengwang.
The rundown house seemed isolated from the rest of the village, and at this moment, no one came by to watch the drama unfold or offer a fair word. So, Gu Yingchu had no choice but to seek help from the village committee.
