C9 A Dog That Can't be Raised Well

Gu Chengwang gritted his teeth, grabbing Dung Qiu's arm, and shouted angrily, "You dare say that again? Who said anything about divorce?"

"So what if I say it again? Are you planning to hit me? The village chief is right here. You think you can just hit people in the village committee?"

Yingchu looked at the village chief, Gu Hann. "Chief, you've seen it all. How can we live like this? You should stand up for the villagers."

With those words, the helplessness in Gu Hann's eyes deepened.

Gu Chengwang's lips trembled with anger, his hands clenched into fists, wishing he could just get rid of Yingchu.

Yingchu wasn't afraid of Gu Chengwang. She reached out and pulled Dung Qiu over. "Don't lay a hand on my mom. Women have been standing strong for a long time now, and you're still stuck in the past, treating women like it's the old days. Honestly, where do you get the nerve?"

She then turned to Gu Hann. "Chief, it's not just about this. We've been kicked out, and they've made it clear they don't want us back. Isn't that right?"

Gu Chengwang was nearly beside himself with rage. He couldn't bear the thought of Dung Qiu leaving and shouted furiously, "Adults are talking. Kids should stay out of it."

Gu Hann, who had often turned a blind eye to this family's issues, realized he had to intervene now that things had escalated. "Everyone, calm down. If there's a problem, we need to discuss it quietly. All this yelling won't solve anything, and the village committee isn't here for your family drama."

Seeing that no one else was speaking, Gu Hann continued, "Since this involves you, I asked someone to bring you here."

Gu Yanghui had gone to town for some errands and wouldn't be back before dark, so the only person they could find was Lin Yan.

Before long, Lin Yan was called over, followed by a few curious village women who stood outside, pointing and whispering.

Lin Yan glanced at Gu Hann and asked, "What do you need me for?"

"I heard you kicked them out of the family yesterday?"

Lin Yan's face darkened at this, and she replied with displeasure, "They were never really part of the family. We've been raising someone else's child for years. If my son hadn't kept it from me, I would have sent them packing long ago." Lin Yan wasn't one to overlook such things; the family had been raising another's child, which was quite embarrassing.

So, when her eldest son was away and with the situation involving Yingchu, she decided to kick them out. To her surprise, Dung Qiu was cooperative and insisted on leaving before she even had the chance to act.

Thinking about it made Lin Yan angry, and she said, "We don't need ungrateful people in our home."

This was an insult, plain and simple.

Gu Yingchu's face turned sour.

"Mom," Gu Chengwang frowned at his mother's words. Back then, he married Dung Qiu because she was pregnant with someone else's child; otherwise, she wouldn't have married him.

"I'm not getting a divorce," said Gu Chengwang. "If I did, I'd be without a wife. Even if she can't do much, at least she keeps the bed warm."

"Old lady, keep your word," Gu Yingchu said with a sarcastic laugh, reminding her.

"Our family doesn't welcome you, and you have no right to speak in front of me," Lin Yan firmly stated, not forgetting her previous words.

"Mr. Mayor, did you hear that? They're acting like capitalists. How are my daughter and I supposed to live under their oppression?"

It's been such a short time since the big movement.

This is outrageous. Gu Hann tapped his pipe...
