C7 Since He Came He Should Stay!

If they had known Fann Jian was such a scoundrel, they would have swallowed their pride and borrowed money from relatives. Even if it meant selling blood, they would have scraped together two hundred bucks to pay back that heartless Fann Jian.

Thinking about it now, Liu Yu'e deeply regretted not doing so.

Now, look at the mess. Xinrann's been married once and already has a bad reputation for ending up in a coffin. Who would dare propose to her now?

Even if someone did, it would probably be a guy who’s been left by his wife, or a widower, or someone looking for a stepmother for his kids. Worse yet, the man might be lame, mute, or blind.

These thoughts left Liu Yu'e with a mix of emotions, and her face was clouded with worry. How would her poor daughter manage in the future? The thought brought a lump to her throat.

Seeing Liu Yu'e cry, Xinrann felt awkward and unsure of what to do. She had never called anyone "Mom" before, so how was she supposed to comfort her now?

Xinrann's hand hovered awkwardly in the air as she tried to think of how the original Xinrann would act. But after a long moment, she realized that the original Xinrann was the type who spoke little, was timid and fearful, and never stood up for herself, let alone comforted others.

With a silent sigh, Xinrann looked at the elderly Liu Yu'e, her hair streaked with gray, and reached out to hug her. She struggled to call her "Mom," and after a while, she finally spoke up: "Don't worry. I won't let the suffering I went through be in vain. I won't swallow this bitterness for nothing. And I certainly didn't spend a night in that coffin for nothing."

Xinrann's words made Liu Yu'e stiffen. Was it her imagination, or did her daughter seem different somehow? She couldn't quite put her finger on what had changed.

Liu Yu'e thought perhaps Xinrann had been scared when she was locked in the coffin.

Liu Yu'e didn't know that the soul inside her daughter's body was now Fang Xinran, someone from the future.

"This situation with Fann Jian won't be easy to shake off. I'll talk to your dad tonight, and tomorrow we'll see if we can borrow some money from relatives. I won't let you fall into that trap again. If it comes to it, pack your things tonight and stay at your grandma's for a few days."

Liu Yu'e was not just angry; she was worried and felt helpless. She wiped her tears with the corner of her sleeve. Fann Jian was a real troublemaker, and with his dad being the head of the neighboring village, who would dare cross him?

"Don't cry, it'll be okay. Last night, Fann Jian almost strangled me. If he tries anything with our family, I'll report him to the police and let him spend some time behind bars," Fang Xinran said through gritted teeth. Liu Yu'e couldn't help but smile bitterly. Her third daughter was finally growing up and learning to fight back.

"Silly child, it's not as simple as you think. Come on, don't say anything more. I made you some oatmeal, have it while it's hot. If the sky falls, I'll hold it up for you. Don't be afraid. If it gets bad, just run away in the night. Leave this village, leave these mountains. Even if you have to beg or scavenge, it's better than marrying that awful Fann Jian."

Fang Xinran looked at the steaming oatmeal, feeling warmth in her heart and a twinge in her nose. Growing up, aside from the director making her oatmeal, no one had cared for her like Liu Yu'e did. Of course, Liu Yu'e was doing it for her own daughter.

Fang Xinran sighed, resigning herself to her fate. Her original body had been shattered in a car accident, and returning was impossible. Besides, being reborn in the 1980s, though poor, at least she had a family that loved and cared for her.

Though she was reluctant to accept the reality of being reborn, she couldn't ignore the genuine feeling of hunger. With this in mind, Fang Xinran comforted herself, thinking, "Since I'm here, I might as well make the best of it."
