C20 Distribute the Money
Zhou Ruonan pointed to the nearby meat stall and whispered a few words. Zhou Hu nodded repeatedly in agreement.
"I know that butcher, he lives next to me. I'll make sure to 'take care' of him. Just watch, Ms. Ruonan," Zhou Hu said with a hint of excitement on his face.
Ruonan pulled out five dollars from her pocket and said, "Alright, just don't go overboard. Use this money to grab a drink with the guys."
Zhou Hu didn't hesitate, taking the five dollars and swaggering off. He turned back and added, "If you ever need anything, just let me know, Ms. Ruonan."
With that settled, she felt confident the butcher wouldn't bother her again. After all, dealing with troublemakers was something he should understand.
Returning to her stall, she found her father, Zhou Hongqu, already back, unable to hide his delight.
"Ruonan, the fish sold like hotcakes. I almost sold out," Zhou Hongqu said, reaching to show her.
Ruonan quickly stopped him, thinking about how like father, like daughter, she was a bit speechless.
"Dad, don't flaunt your wealth!" Ruonan whispered to Zhou Hongqu.
He immediately toned down his excitement, realizing it had been years since he felt this happy.
I remember the last time I felt this happy was when my wife gave birth to a big, healthy baby boy. The Zhou family finally had an heir.
"Alright, alright, it's my fault, I get it," Zhou Hongqu chuckled as he sat down, busying himself with the crayfish scuttling around.
Zhou Ruonan wasn't sure how Zhou Hu planned to help her out, but given his experience around town, he probably had some tricks up his sleeve.
Thanks to the three of them, the crayfish sold out quickly. By 8:30, most of them were gone.
Without lingering, the trio hopped onto the tractor and headed out of town.
Meanwhile, in a corner, a group of young guys huddled together, discussing something.
"Mr. Hu, is that the one?" one of them asked.
Zhou Hu nodded, "Just cause a little trouble, nothing too serious. Once we're done, let's grab some drinks."
"Don't worry, Mr. Hu. We're not rookies," one of the young men replied with a confident grin. He signaled to his friends, and they sauntered over to the pork stall.
Zhou Ruonan had no idea Zhou Hu was acting so quickly. She was busy sitting with Zhou Hongqu, counting money, bill by bill.
Zhou Hongqu meticulously smoothed out each bill, making sure there wasn't a single crease.
Watching him, Zhou Ruonan felt a wave of emotion. In her past life, Zhou Hongqu had fallen ill and, without money for proper treatment, had to return home. Sadly, he passed away shortly after his 60th birthday.
Taking a deep breath, she vowed that in this lifetime, she would never let such a thing happen again.
"Mr. Qian, take a guess," Zhou Hongqu asked excitedly after counting the money.
Qian Wang thought for a moment and replied, "Over 30?"
"Are you kidding me? It's a hundred and twenty-nine! Plus some food stamps. We really hit the jackpot!" Zhou Hongqu was clearly overjoyed.
After Zhou Ruonan counted again to confirm, she took out $30 and handed it to Qian Wang, saying, "Mr. Qian, this is for you."
Seeing the small stack of bills, Qian Wang stopped the tractor, his expression shifting as he said, "Silly girl, I was just helping out. I can't take that much."
