C13 Dance with Gong Lingye!!

The air was thick with opulence, stirring within her a sense of nostalgia she hadn't felt in ages. How familiar had she been with such grandeur in her past life?

Gong Mochen engaged in perfunctory small talk with the approaching guests, introducing Soong Yiren at his side with minimal enthusiasm.

Then, the entire hall fell into a hushed silence.

A man in a crisp suit made his way through the entrance of the banquet hall. His striking features and towering stature commanded the room, his presence seeming to carry a gust that could sweep through the entire space.

It was Gong Lingye.

At his arrival, all eyes were magnetically drawn to him. The guests, who had primarily come in hopes of speaking with Gong Lingye, eagerly anticipated the opportunity. Yet, his formidable presence made them hesitate to approach him.

His gaze remained fixed forward as he walked. Passing Soong Yiren, his eyes fleetingly grazed over her face, leaving a trace of unspoken significance.

Soong Yiren felt a jolt in her heart, but by the time she looked again, Gong Lingye had already moved on to greet Old Madame Gong, her mother.

Meanwhile, Gong Mochen gestured toward the nearby resting area, instructing Soong Yiren, "Stay here. I'll call for you if needed." With that, he turned and departed without a backward glance.

Unfazed, Soong Yiren settled onto the sofa, indulging in the pastries before her to satisfy her hunger.

Soon after, voices approached from behind, growing louder with each step.

"Director Gong, we were too aggressive with the Yan Mountain project. Could you grant us another chance?" a man asked Gong Lingye with reverence.

"Opportunities come once. Miss it, and it's gone," Gong Lingye replied, his tone light yet final, brooking no argument.

The man, crestfallen and at a loss for words, had no choice but to walk away.

Several others, having spotted Gong Lingye, quickly converged around him. They had paid a premium for their banquet invitations, all for a moment with Gong Lingye, whose slightest favor could sustain them for years.

Accustomed to such events, Gong Lingye made his way to the sofa area. Just as he was about to take a seat, he noticed Soong Yiren already occupying the sofa.

She nibbled on her snack, the mysterious allure once gracing her delicate features now replaced by a look of childlike eagerness for the food in her hands. It was a touch of innocence that made her unexpectedly endearing.

He squinted slightly.

Soong Yiren looked up just in time to see Gong Lingye approaching. She rose swiftly to greet him, "Hello, Mr. Gong!"

Noticing he appeared to be there for business, she tactfully excused herself, leaving room for Gong Lingye and the newcomers who had just arrived.

As Soong Yiren walked away, Gong Lingye watched her retreating figure, his mind churning with thoughts. Whatever the guest before him was saying fell on deaf ears.

He had been aware of the interest in Gong Mochen and had kept an eye on the situation.

The Yu Ruonuan he remembered was vastly different from the present one. It wasn't just her makeup; her entire demeanor and conduct had undergone a transformation.

The Yu Ruonuan of the past had been timid and compliant, but now...

Gong Lingye's eyebrows lifted. This woman was a master of disguise, clearly not genuinely smitten with Gong Mochen.

So, what was her true motive for ingratiating herself with the Gong Family?

Could she be linked to that affair concerning the Gong Family?

The banquet soon commenced, and it was tradition for the Gong Family to lead the opening dance.

Gong Lingye was without a partner, and at nearly thirty, rumors of his romantic entanglements—or the lack thereof—were nonexistent.

Thus, Old Madame Gong had decided Gong Mochen and Soong Yiren would be the ones to open the dance.

But as the music began, Gong Mochen was nowhere to be found. Old Madame Gong was about to send a servant to search for him when Gong Lingye offered, "I'll dance."

He approached Soong Yiren, extending a hand in invitation.

Bathed in the soft glow of the lights, his gaze was deep and captivating, reminiscent of an unfathomable ocean of stars. Soong Yiren felt a flutter of surprise, wondering why Gong Lingye had asked her to dance.
