Soong Yiren was taken aback, "My second brother-in-law?"

"Your Second Elder Sister got divorced today," Yu Chengzhi explained. "Your second brother-in-law has always had a thing for you, and now that he's single, you should marry him."

Soong Yiren cut him off, "Dad, you're aware that he was my second brother-in-law!"

"They're divorced now; he's no longer your brother-in-law," Yu Chengzhi replied, his patience wearing thin. "Wang Kai's market value is over a hundred million. Plenty of people want to marry him, yet he's sent the betrothal gifts to us! Get back here and first thing tomorrow, we're going to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get that marriage certificate!"

Struggling to articulate her feelings, Soong Yiren took a deep breath to quell her rising fury, her voice icy, "Dad, don't you want to be connected to the Gong Family? If I'm already Gong Mochen's fiancée, would you still have me marry my former brother-in-law?"

There was a pause on the other end before Yu Chengzhi responded, "He didn't drink the wine?"

With a scoff, Soong Yiren's lips twisted into a smirk. "He didn't drink, but I accomplished what you asked of me. Old Madame Gong saw everything, and she suggested our families get together for a chat soon."

Yu Chengzhi's spirits soared, then his mood soured. "Why didn't you mention this earlier?"

Soong Yiren feigned innocence. "Dad, you only ever asked about the wine, nothing else."

Yu Chengzhi was briefly irked but quickly perked up again.

As he pondered the situation, his later wife, Faang Lingyi, interjected coolly, "Really? The Gong Family is hosting a banquet this Sunday evening. If Young Master Gong truly has feelings for you, I'm sure he'll extend an invitation to us."

Realizing the implications, Yu Chengzhi's tone softened, "Ruonuan, with you and Gong Mochen on the brink of engagement, you'll be his date for the event, won't you? I'll be expecting the Gong Family's invitation!"

He had considered it carefully. Yu Ruonuan surely wouldn't dare deceive him. But would the Gong Family truly acknowledge her? Or were they merely placating her?

The day was fast approaching. It was the perfect time for him to check things out. As for dealing with Wang Kai, he could come up with an excuse to stall for a few days. If the situation with the Gong Family changed, there would still be time to arrange a marriage with Wang Kai.

Soong Yiren could easily see through Yu Chengzhi's calculations. She nodded in agreement, "Dad, don't worry. I'll call Mr. Mochen later and ask for an invitation card."

"Make that two invitation cards," interjected Yu Ruonuan's stepmother, Faang Lingyi.

All the while, Soong Yiren pondered how to get Gong Mochen to 'acknowledge' her.

Yet, with the banquet looming, her options seemed limited, and she was left with only one viable plan.

Now that Gong Mochen was back from his business trip, Soong Yiren wasn't about to miss her chance. She decided against returning to school and instead arranged to meet with Gong Mochen.

She dialed his number, and predictably, he hung up each time she called.

Feeling frustrated, Soong Yiren sent a brief, pointed message: "Function impediment."

True to form, her phone rang within seconds. A smirk played on Soong Yiren's lips as she slid to answer, "Mr. Mochen."

A frosty voice came through, "What's this about?"

"You obviously understand the meaning behind my text, Mr. Mochen, or you wouldn't have called back," Soong Yiren replied cheerfully. "I'm at the SOFT coffee shop across from your company, waiting for you."

Without waiting for a response, she ended the call.

At the SOFT coffee shop, Soong Yiren leisurely stirred her mocha, just as a shadow loomed over her. She looked up slowly, offering the man a smile. "I didn't order you a coffee; I wasn't sure what you'd like."

This marked her first encounter with Gong Mochen since her rebirth.
