C18 Hugging Him Tightly
"No need."
She refused without hesitation. Now that she knew Qiao Hui was safe, she felt relieved. Turning to Han Hao, she asked, "Mr. Han Hao, where are the people who tried to hurt Qiao Hui?"
"Zhiyu has them in another room for questioning. We should have results soon."
It was Fu Chenhan, who hadn't let go of her, who answered.
Niannian wasn't interested in the outcome. She knew those behind it were Lin Moxu and Shi Ranran. After a moment of thought, she said, "There's no need to question them further. Just lock them up."
Fu Chenhan looked at her in surprise and asked, "No questioning? It's clear they were following orders. Don't you want to know who was behind it?"
"I don't want to know."
Fu Chenhan frowned slightly, noticing she seemed different today—more mature and composed. Her best friend was nearly harmed, yet she calmed down so quickly and didn't seem to want to pursue it further. Did she already know who was behind it?
"Cheng Zhiyu has the results."
A man in a black suit hurried in.
"Go ahead."
"The person who hired them was Lin Moxu."
The mention of Lin Moxu made Fu Chenhan's frown deepen. He glanced at the woman in his arms, then turned to Cheng Zhiyu and said, "I'll leave this to you. I'm heading back."
"Don't worry about it."
"Hold on."
Niannian anxiously instructed, "Please, Mr. Han, keep an eye on those people. Make sure the news is locked down so Lin Moxu doesn't find out I was here today."
Han Hao looked at Chenhan for his opinion.
"Do as she says."
With that, Chenhan wrapped an arm around Niannian and left Caesar Palace, heading straight back to Jing Garden.
Chenhan was unusually silent the entire way. Niannian could sense he was holding something back. He was clearly upset and wanted to question her, but he didn't say a word. His restraint only made her heart ache.
As he silently prepared to head to his room, Niannian couldn't hold back any longer and called out, "Chenhan, can we talk?"
His shoulders visibly tensed, but he didn't turn around as he replied, "I don't want to talk today."
"No, we have to talk."
Niannian quickly stepped in front of him, determined not to let him go until they did.
His eyes, red with emotion, met hers as he asked, "What do you want to talk about? How much you love him? Or how your love for him knows no bounds?"
"It's not like that. I don't love him anymore."
Faced with his barrage of questions, Niannian hurriedly denied it.
Chenhan let out a self-deprecating laugh, clearly not believing her words.
Niannian reached out and tugged at his sleeve, looking him straight in the eye as she earnestly said, "Chenhan, please believe me. I really don't love him anymore."
"Don't love him anymore? If that's true, then why are you still protecting him? Don't tell me you didn't know those people were acting on his orders."
Just a moment ago, she had tried to stop him from interrogating those people further and had prevented him from pursuing the matter. Wasn't it because she was afraid of implicating Lin Moxu? She was afraid he would take action against Lin Moxu, which is why she kept trying to stop him.
"I won't deny that I know those people were acting on his orders, but..."
Now wasn't the right time to deal with Lin Moxu. She still needed him for something in a few days. How could she explain this to Fu Chenhan? Was she supposed to tell him she had been reborn and was planning to set a trap to get revenge on Lin Moxu and Shi Ranran?
