C3 Placing Herself in His Arms
He glanced at Shi Niannian again, trying to appear casual, and then spoke softly, unable to hide the gentle concern in his voice: "How are you feeling? Does your head still hurt? Do you need me to call the doctor to check on you?"
Shi Niannian seemed not to hear his questions, staring at him in a daze, afraid to blink, worried that if she did, he might suddenly disappear, or that this was all just a dream that would end the moment she closed her eyes.
Fu Chenhan felt a bit uneasy and somewhat incredulous. She never looked at him directly, let alone with such unwavering focus, almost as if she were gazing at him affectionately.
Could she have hit her head too hard?
This was the conclusion Fu Chenhan reached, furrowing his brow in concern. He raised his hand to check her forehead.
The unexpected gesture made Shi Niannian instinctively pull back, as if repulsed, and a hint of sadness flickered in Fu Chenhan's eyes.
She still disliked and resisted his touch, just as always.
He had gotten used to it, but even so, he couldn't help feeling a pang of disappointment and sadness.
After those emotions passed, he forced himself to act nonchalant as he explained, "I wasn't trying to do anything, just wanted to see if you have a fever. Right now..."
Before he could finish speaking, Niannian suddenly threw herself into his arms, her slender arms tightly wrapped around his waist, so overjoyed she was almost incoherent.
"Oh my gosh... it's so wonderful, we're both still alive, we didn't get burned to death, we..." She trailed off, her mind sluggishly realizing something was off.
Logically, even if they hadn't been burned to death, they should have been severely injured. The fire was so intense, the villa was severely damaged. Even after it was extinguished, they should have suffered burns. She couldn't be sure how badly Chenhan was burned.
She could still feel how badly she herself was burned. When the villa was engulfed in flames, she was lying flat on the floor, and her skin must have been scorched by the hot surface. Especially before she lost consciousness, she clearly remembered being trapped under a concrete slab.
Chenhan seemed to have been hit by the slab too, even though she couldn't see at the time, she...
Wait, were her eyes okay now? She unconsciously raised her hand to touch her eye sockets; the bandages had already been removed.
How long had she been unconscious? Her eyes had fully recovered, and she...
Suddenly, a thought struck her. She released him, looking up with disbelief and overwhelming joy. The eyes that once seemed so dark and inscrutable now shone like stars, bright and full of life. What amazed her even more was that these eyes were fixed on her, sharp and clear.
No, these weren't the eyes of someone who was blind.
Her delicate fingers waved in front of his eyes. "Your... eyes are completely healed? Can you see me now? Did someone donate corneas to you? When did you have the surgery, you..."
Listening to her bewildering questions, Fu Chenhan furrowed his brows and caught her wrist gently, not daring to use too much force. "What? Trying a new trick?"
