"This is a Gaboon viper, the heavyweight of snakes. Its body isn't particularly long, but it's incredibly thick. The largest ones can weigh over 22 pounds, making it the biggest venomous snake in Africa. The one I'm holding is less than two years old, a juvenile in snake terms, and weighs about 11 or 12 pounds. It's quite hefty
