C16 Repair the Light Bulb?

Upon opening the door, Chen Feng was surprised to see Xia Mengyao standing there. She was clad in black, sheer pajamas that perfectly accentuated her hourglass figure, particularly her full chest that seemed ready to burst through the fabric.

Her face, freshly scrubbed and free of makeup, was tinged with a rosy hue, reminiscent of a ripe peach so tempting it made one want to take a bite.

"What's up?" Chen Feng inquired, puzzled. Xia Mengyao rarely sought him out at night unless there was something amiss. What was different about tonight?

"The light in my bedroom is broken," Xia Mengyao managed to say, struggling to keep her expression neutral, though she found it unusually difficult that evening.

"The light's out?" Chen Feng quirked an eyebrow.

"Mhm," she murmured, her cheeks flushing a deeper shade of red, her voice barely above a whisper as her fingers twisted together awkwardly.

"That's no big deal. I'll go fix it for you," Chen Feng said nonchalantly. He had assumed Xia Mengyao's late visit was for something significant, only to discover it was a mere light bulb issue.

As Chen Feng made to head to her room, a flicker of embarrassment and irritation crossed Xia Mengyao's face.

"Fixing a light bulb can be such a hassle. Maybe I should just sleep in your room tonight," she blurted out, then immediately felt the heat of her own forwardness coloring her face.

Chen Feng paused, taken aback, then quickly shook his head. "It's no hassle at all. I'm pretty good at fixing light bulbs. Back in school, I was the go-to guy for that. Just wait a sec, it'll take me no more than three minutes."

"No, forget it! I don't want it fixed anymore!" Xia Mengyao snapped, her teeth clenched, and then she abruptly shut the door.

Chen Feng was left scratching his head in bewilderment. What was going on with her? She had wanted the light bulb fixed, hadn't she? Why the sudden change of heart?

That night, Chen Feng slept deeply.

Xia Mengyao, on the other hand, didn't catch a wink of sleep. The next morning, she emerged from her bedroom with dark circles under her eyes, and upon seeing Chen Feng, she couldn't muster a single pleasant look for him.

Chen Feng was perplexed. Hadn't she been perfectly fine just the night before?

After preparing breakfast, Chen Feng paid a visit to Xia Weiguo in the hospital. The car accident had happened because of him, and the guilt weighed heavily on Chen Feng's conscience.

Xia Weiguo had regained consciousness following the surgery, but his awareness was still hazy. Chen Feng restrained himself from saying too much.

Leaving the hospital, Chen Feng held a note in his hand:

"Young master, two factions have been monitoring you of late. One is led by Shen Hongchang's men, who are probing into your past. The other, suspected to be Ghost Servants from Chen Zhennan, are here to keep tabs on you. Their strength is formidable; I dared not investigate further. Please exercise caution!"

Chen Feng read the message and quietly destroyed it.

The scrutiny from Shen Hongchang's lackey was anticipated. After their encounter, Chen Feng had pegged Shen Hongchang as a man of detail, disguised by a facade of carelessness. It was only natural for Shen Hongchang to conduct his own investigation, yet he was oblivious to the fact that the Chen Family would reveal nothing.

However, the potential Ghost Servants sent by Chen Zhennan cast a shadow over Chen Feng's mood. He was well aware of the Ghost Servants' notorious reputation, a formidable force under Chen Zhennan's command, and one of his most feared adversaries.

It appeared that even after three years of laying low within the Xia Family, Chen Zhennan's suspicions had not waned. "That old fox is not easily outwitted," Chen Feng muttered under his breath.

Chen Feng had his own aces, but he knew they paled in comparison to Chen Zhennan's influence.

In time, he believed a resolution would emerge. With a sigh, Chen Feng clung to this hope.

Once home, life proceeded as usual. Chen Feng drove Xia Mengyao to her office. He had Chen Zhong relocate the Koenigsegg to the villa on Mount Yuquan and replaced it with a new electric car.

"Still holding a grudge?" he asked with a grin, noticing Xia Mengyao's displeasure.

Xia Mengyao gave Chen Feng a sideways glance and retorted, "Angry with you? Don't flatter yourself."

"Okay, okay, I get it—I was overthinking things," Chen Feng said with a wry smile. He racked his brain but couldn't pinpoint how he had possibly offended Xia Mengyao. He concluded that it must be her time of the month; she seemed irritable with everyone.

After dropping Xia Mengyao off at the company, Chen Feng was ready to head out when a mocking voice stopped him.

"Hey, Chen Feng, no sports car for Mengyao today? Running low on cash?" Xia Mengyao sashayed over. Just yesterday, Zhao Shihua had insisted Chen Feng's car wasn't a rental, yet here he was today, back on his electric bike.

Chen Feng rolled his eyes, dismissing the foolish woman without a word.

"Does your face not hurt anymore?" Xia Mengyao asked Xia Zilan, her face void of emotion.

The remark hit a nerve, instantly changing Xia Zilan's complexion as it brought back the humiliation of being slapped by Xia Mengyao and Chen Feng in front of everyone. Xia Zilan quickly composed herself and retorted through clenched teeth, "Why the smug look, Xia Mengyao? You're clueless about being ousted from the Mount Yuquan Project, aren't you?"

Ousted from the Mount Yuquan Project?

Xia Mengyao's brows knit together in confusion. What was Xia Zilan talking about? She had just secured the project the day before.

Chen Feng squinted his eyes. As he had anticipated, the inevitable had occurred.

Xia Yunsheng was still up to his old tricks.

"What a presumptuous idiot!" Xia Zilan huffed.

"What are you implying? And where's Grandpa?" Xia Mengyao's face chilled as a sense of foreboding crept over her. She needed to confront Xia Yunsheng for clarity.

"Grandfather's gone to Jinzhou for a birthday celebration," came Xia Hao's cool voice from behind her.

"Moreover, before he left, he assigned the Mount Yuquan Project to me. Xia Mengyao, you might as well take some time off at home." A smug arc formed on Xia Hao's lips. True to Xia Qichao's prediction, a mere heartfelt apology to Xia Yunsheng yesterday was all it took for him to smoothly transfer the project into his hands.

"Why should he? The Mount Yuquan Project was mine to begin with—why would Grandfather hand it over to you?"

Xia Mengyao was seething with anger upon hearing this. Just yesterday, she had secured the project, only to be abruptly ousted from the team and, to add insult to injury, her rival had taken over.

"On what basis?" Xia Hao sneered with contempt. "Simply because I am Grandfather's sole grandson and the destined heir to the Xia Family. Xia Mengyao, does that reason satisfy you?"

His voice dripped with smug satisfaction.

"You..." Xia Mengyao clenched her teeth, too furious to speak. It had become crystal clear to her that no matter how exceptional her achievements, she would never capture Xia Yunsheng's approval. In his eyes, there was only room for Xia Hao..
