C4 new life in a new world

It had been two years since Vlad was reborn into this new world, yet he still hadn’t recovered any memories of his past life. At first, it didn’t trouble him. After all, what could a two-year-old possibly know of a past life? But every night, he found himself trapped in dreams—vivid yet fleeting images that faded when he woke up. These dreams disturbed him, making him restless and uneasy, even if he couldn’t remember them in detail. The unease lingered in his small, childlike body.

In the spacious room, illuminated by a soft glow from the moonlight streaming through the window, Vlad lay sleeping. His face, youthful and innocent, twisted with discomfort as if trapped in a nightmare. His small hands gripped the blankets tightly, and if one listened closely, one might hear the soft murmurs of confusion escaping his lips.

What’s going on? Vlad's voice echoed within the dream, but only he could hear it. Why am I here? Why do I keep dreaming about this place? The more he tried to grasp the details of his dreams, the more they seemed to slip away like grains of sand through his fingers. Every time he woke up, the memories would vanish. But tonight felt different.

In this dream, Vlad stood in a cold, unfamiliar place. The air around him was frigid, almost oppressive. He glanced around and realized he was standing in front of something—no, someone. Before him lay a man, frozen in what appeared to be an ice bed. The man looked about 19 years old, his body encased in frost as though trapped in time. A pang of sadness struck Vlad deep in his chest as he stared at the young man’s face. The emotion was unfamiliar yet overwhelming.

Why do I feel this way? Vlad asked himself, his thoughts swirling. Who is this man? There was no answer, only silence.

Something inside him stirred as he continued to stare at the figure in the ice bed. A faint glimmer of memories flickered to life like an old movie reel. Suddenly, he could hear voices—distant yet clear enough to make out.

“Hi, Mom,” a voice echoed in his mind.

Mom? Vlad thought, feeling a connection to the voice, though it didn’t feel like his own.

“Hello, sweetheart,” a woman’s voice responded, warm and familiar. “How is school going?”

“School was great, but how was your day?” the voice—now clearer—replied.

“My day was good, thanks for asking, son.” There was a pause. “Are you on your way home yet?”

The scene shifted, and Vlad could almost see it—a man, the same one in the ice bed, standing somewhere, holding a phone. He looked troubled but calm. “I was a little busy with something,” the man said, his tone apologetic. “I might be a little late, Mom.”

“James, did you forget what day today is?” the woman asked, a hint of playful reprimand in her voice.

“Forget?” the man named James asked. “What did I forget?”

“Today’s your birthday! We’ve been waiting for you all day.”

James chuckled softly as if he’d just realized. “Oh, I remember now, Mom. Don’t worry, I’ll be home soon.”

“Good,” she replied. “We’ll see you soon. Drive safely.”

“Bye, Mom. Love you.”

And just like that, the conversation faded into the ether, leaving Vlad again standing alone in the frozen chamber. But now he knew something. The man lying in the ice bed—his name was James.

But why do I know his name? Vlad questioned himself, his confusion deepening. Who is James? And why do I feel like I’ve seen this before?

Before he could contemplate further, another memory forced its way to the forefront of his mind, this time more chaotic and tense. The scene shifted again, and Vlad found himself watching James driving. It was dark, and the road ahead stretched endlessly. Suddenly, from the corner of his eye, James saw an old woman crossing the road, unaware of the incoming truck barreling toward her at full speed.

Without thinking, James swerved his car, crashing it into the side of the truck to prevent it from hitting the woman. The impact was brutal, and everything went black. Vlad could hear distant screams and muffled voices as if he were underwater.

“Call 911! He needs help!” someone shouted.

Through blurred vision, James—barely conscious—could hear people speaking around him. “Did I save her?” he asked weakly, his voice trembling.

“Yes,” a soft voice answered. “You saved her. She’s right here beside you.”

James exhaled a small sigh of relief. But the voices around him became more frantic.

“He’s losing too much blood. Stay with us!”

“An ambulance is on the way.”

Despite the chaos, James could hear one voice—a voice filled with gratitude. “Thank you, son,” the old woman he’d saved whispered. “Please stay with us. The ambulance is coming.”

Vlad felt James’ pain. He felt the exhaustion, the slow ebbing of life slipping away. And then, just as the voices grew distant, everything went dark again.

Vlad’s eyes snapped open, gasping for air as he shot up from his bed, sweat clinging to his forehead. The cold, frozen chamber was gone, replaced by the warmth of his bedroom. His small, childlike body trembled as he tried to understand what he had just experienced.

Who was that? Vlad thought, his mind racing. Why did I feel his pain?

As he sat there, catching his breath, the memories of James lingered in his thoughts. They felt too real, too vivid to be mere dreams. There was something more—a connection that Vlad couldn’t yet understand. Why was he reliving the memories of someone named James? And why did these memories seem tied to the deep, inexplicable sadness he felt whenever he thought about the man in the ice bed?

Vlad knew one thing: these dreams held the key to something important. His past, his identity, the reason for his rebirth—everything seemed to hinge on these fleeting glimpses into another life. Determined to uncover the truth, Vlad made a vow. No matter how long it took, he would unlock the secrets hidden within his subconscious, discover who James was, and understand why their fates seemed intertwined.

As he drifted back to sleep, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this was the beginning of a much larger mystery that would change his life in ways he couldn’t yet imagine.
