C2 Chapter 1; Released from prison

4 years later

Reyansh POV

Sometimes life can be so erratic that one doesn't know what is happening or what is going to happen right in the next moment. It can be unpredictable and full of uncertainties, leaving all of us feeling lost and directionless. Yesterday you were over the moon but exactly the next moment you can find yourself dumped, defeated and dejected.

It was in such a moment of uncertainty and confusion that I found myself after the death of my only family. I was a shell who has lost its soul and found it difficult to pick up the pieces and move on. After the death of my parents, she was the only family left. But now I found myself completely alone and lonely.

I was brought out of a trance by a horn blaring in my ear from behind. I turned around to see an agitated driver rudely gesturing for me to move my car. Then I realized the traffic light had turned green and I was staring at it without moving my car an inch. I took a deep breath and clear my head from my thoughts and focus on driving.

Just as I took a turn I notice a person I didn't expect to see this fast after all she was supposed to be released from prison in another year. Although I had never been able to clearly see her face before. She typically kept her face hidden from my view by her hair, but just before she was sentenced, I caught a brief glimpse of her face. And from what I can remember, she is the same person I just saw. As my mind struggled to make sense of it, I was certain that it was her- how else was it possible for me to forget the identity of the person who had destroyed my life? I felt anger and hatred consume me like a raging fire as memories of the past came flooding back. I couldn't believe my eyes as I saw her walking freely on the street, knowing that she had destroyed everything I held dear.

I could feel my blood boil and all I wanted to do was confront her, make her pay for what she had done. But I knew deep down that it wasn't the right time or place. I need to gather myself and plan my actions carefully. I drove towards my office and only one thought was present in my mind - why is she present outside of prison?

As soon as inside my office, I grabbed my phone and called a number in search of someone who could give me all the answers to the questions that were whirling around in my head. I couldn't help but wonder what other things are being kept from me as the phone rang.

My only thought right now is that I need to learn the real reason for her release and how she managed to escape without my knowledge. Despite the fact that I was not a direct participant in her case, her actions had a significant impact on my life. I cannot allow her to go unchecked because she was the one who took what little joy there was after my parents' passing. However, I was unable to take action because someone else took care of it before I could.

"Good morning boss," came the voice of my loyal and trusted informant from the other side.

"How come she is outside the prison already? She was supposed to be there for another year. Find out when she was released and who authorized it." my voice came out in a harsh whisper as I tried to control my emotions.

"I'll find out and get back to you as soon as possible," he replied in urgency, sensing the weight behind my words.

How did she escape from prison, I didn't hear anything about it. I ought to have been informed as soon as she was released, but even my men were unaware of the situation. I waited for a reply, my thoughts circling back and forth with questions and possibilities. It was clear that seeing her had stirred up strong emotions within me, but I knew I needed to focus on getting answers and taking action.

As I waited for the call back, I made a mental note to get every piece of information on her so that I can calculate my next step.

I took a deep breath as I tried to compose myself and shift my focus back to work, but it wasn't easy.

The next second I got a call from my trusted informant, and I knew the answer to my all question is there on the other line. With a sense of urgency, I answered the call, to finally get closure on what is happening without my notice.

"Boss, she has released 4 years ago due to good behaviour and a plea to bargain through. But the person who was behind her release is not known yet."

I listened to my informant as I tried to process the fact that she had been released four years earlier without my knowledge. I suddenly realized that had I not run into her today, she might have been hidden and I would have been completely unaware of it for a long time, giving her the power to wreak havoc in my life once more. I decided to find the person in charge of her release and make sure they are held accountable. It was a reminder that as much power as I held in my position, there were always things happening behind the scenes beyond my control.

"But how come she was released 4 years and I got no information about it? Does it mean that she went under the radar and was never properly monitored? What were you all doing for the last 4 years if you didn't know about her release?" I asked in frustration and anger, trying to assess the situation.

" I am sorry sir but we have been keeping a close eye on her, but it seems like someone manages to cover up her release and kept her hidden from our eyes." The information was unsettling but I knew that I needed to reach the roots of the situation.

" I want every information on her, from the moment she was born on this earth and I need the file on my desk before dusk or you can consider yourself out of this case. This is the last generosity I am offering to you, you better make it count." I said sternly before ending the call.

Now that she has been hidden for four years, it is obvious that someone is guarding her, and that person is in a higher position, as my team is unable to keep an eye on her. No one can hide for four years without some powerful assistance from me.

I picked up my phone to get more information on the situation and find out how deep the roots of this problem has gotten.

" Hello, Reyansh, it's good to hear from you." came the voice of the most influential person in the country.

I took a deep breath and replied calmly, "Yes, Mr. Miller, I was wondering if you knew anything about her release."

As the owner of one of the largest groups in the nation, Mr. Miller, the chairman of Miller's group, is regarded as one of the most influential people. And it was he who was responsible for keeping that girl in jail.

There was a long pause from the other side, "Are you talking about her?"

"Certainly yes, Mr. Miller, I needed to know do you have any idea about her release."

"Why is there no explanation given to me as to why she was released from prison after we used our influence to impose a strict sentence when she was supposed to be released next year?" there was pure anger and distress from the other side, making it clear that he has no idea about this situation.

My anger shot up as none has raised their voice in front of me irrespective of their position. I took a deep breath to calm down, "I am sure Mr. Miller that your anger is not directed towards me, but you got no position to raise your voice until you want to face the consequences of your actions." I replied in the calmest yet firm tone possible.

"That's not what I meant, I apologize for raising my voice, but the knowledge you just provided took me by surprise and I couldn't control my emotions." He apologized for his behaviour and tried to explain his confusion about the situation.

"That's what I initially believed, but Mr. Dot Miller, you should be aware that I do not always forgive easily and do not take disrespect well," I warned him in my deadliest tone.

"Yes, I know and I'll keep that in my mind." he again apologized.

"Good"

"When was she released?" he asked trying not to sound impatient and rude. I replied, "Four years ago."

After a long pause, he shouted from the other side," Four years ago."
