C11 Chapter 11

As a nationally celebrated physician trusted and valued by the medical establishment, Chu Jiuge was the last person anyone could push around. If anything, it was a miracle she didn’t throw her weight around herself.

Watching Yuan Yunhua use her family’s influence to order the officers to arrest her, Chu Jiuge suddenly felt like all her years as the country’s top miracle doctor had been for nothing.

She had saved countless powerful people over the years, yet whenever someone made things difficult for her, it had never once crossed her mind to call in those favors and crush them.

Well, mostly because she didn’t dare...

At first, the officers had shown some restraint, focusing only on capturing Chu Jiuge. But when they still couldn’t catch her, and fearing Xiao Jing’an and Yuan Yunhua would be displeased, they gritted their teeth and stopped holding back.

Now dodging alone wasn’t enough. Chu Jiuge had no choice but to fight back, and the moment she did, she snapped the leg of one of the officers beside her.

A sharp crack rang out. The officers still fighting, as well as Xiao Jing’an and Yuan Yunhua, all froze in shock and stared at Chu Jiuge in disbelief.

This was Great Miss Chu?

“You forced me.” That was exactly why Chu Jiuge hated making a move. She didn’t know how to fight, but she did know how to fight dirty. Once she struck, people ended up either dead or badly hurt.

A broken bone was mild by comparison.

While the officers were still stunned, Chu Jiuge stepped forward and struck one officer’s hand with her right hand. Another crack followed. The officer cried out in pain, and the spear in his hand fell.

The instant it dropped, Chu Jiuge caught it.

“Quick, take her down!” The lead officer immediately sensed trouble the moment he saw the weapon in Chu Jiuge’s hands and ordered his men forward. But the words had barely left his mouth when the spear in Chu Jiuge’s hand shot out with a whistle and stopped right at his throat. “Tell your men not to move.”

“Y-you... what are you trying to do? I’m an officer of the court. If you kill me, it’s a crime.” The lead officer went rigid, too afraid to move.

“I can go with you to the authorities.” Chu Jiuge glanced at Yuan Yunhua and immediately knew this wasn’t going to end peacefully. But she could go to the authorities—under no circumstances was she going to the Xiao family or the Yuan family.

Tomorrow she was to marry into North County. Out of respect for the North Duke, the authorities probably wouldn’t dare do much to her. But the Xiao and Yuan families were a different story. The moment she stepped through their door, she could very well end up dead in some “accident” the next.

“Fine, let’s go...” Seeing how things stood, Yuan Yunhua knew Chu Jiuge wasn’t easy to handle and was just about to agree when a heart-wrenching cry suddenly rang out:

“Help! Somebody, help! Save him! Young master, young master...”

“Where is everyone? Where is everyone? Master Danqing, I know you’re here. Please, please save my young master!”

...

The first two cries hadn’t drawn much attention, but the moment that person called out “Danqing,” Xiao Jing’an and Yuan Yunhua both turned to look.

“The Xie family? Third Young Master Xie Xuan?” Xiao Jing’an asked.

Yuan Yunhua nodded. Ignoring the injury on his face, he grabbed Xiao Jing’an and headed for the carriage. “Come on, let’s go take a look.” But he didn’t forget to order the guards to keep an eye on Chu Jiuge. “Don’t let her get away.”

“Yes, sir.” The three guards from the Xiao family had already taken a dislike to Chu Jiuge. At this point, they didn’t care whether the order had come from their own young master or not. They accepted it readily and surrounded Chu Jiuge on all sides.

Now, even if Chu Jiuge took the officer in charge hostage, it wouldn’t help. The Xiao family’s men weren’t about to show any respect for the local constables.

Chu Jiuge silently cursed her bad luck, but there was nothing she could do.

When you were outmatched, sometimes all you could do was endure it.
