Lucas regained consciousness. His eyes blinked and slowly opened. In the dim lighting, the first thing he saw was the ceiling.

Lucas turned his gaze. There lay Velia, fast asleep beside him. She looked peaceful and exhausted, a perfect combination that brought a smile to Lucas's face. It seemed he would not be leaving the bed for a while.
