C10 We've Never Interacted
Her tone softened, even carrying a hint of vulnerability.
Jing Si's dark eyes quietly observed the young girl pretending to read a book nearby. He interrupted her, "I don't understand what you're saying, Miss Shen. The Shen family and the Jing family have never been in contact. If there's nothing important, please refrain from making these unnecessary calls in the future."
"Jing..."
Before she could finish, the line went dead, leaving Shen Yueyin staring at the disconnected call, her lips pressed tightly together.
Zhang Yuan wanted to reach out and pat her back in comfort, but recalling the boss's intimidating and authoritarian gaze, he hesitated and withdrew his hand, offering instead, "Miss Shen, you can always talk things over with the Second Master. I've been by his side for years, and you're the only one who can affect his mood. Everything can be resolved if you just talk it out. There's no need to be hard on yourself, right? Miss Shen, Miss Shen!"
In the CEO's office, Jing Si watched the surveillance footage of the woman leaving the building, looking lost and forlorn. His eyes were deep, lost in thought.
Shen Yiliang slid off the couch and ran over to Jing Si, standing on tiptoe to peer at the screen. Tugging at his sleeve, she asked, "Uncle, did you have a fight with Aunt?"
Jing Si looked down at Yiliang's overly large eyes and gently patted her head without answering.
"Uncle, Aunt cares about you. Please don't be mad at her, okay?" Her dark eyes were filled with tears as she hugged Jing Si's leg, her voice soft and pleading. "I don't have Mommy and Daddy anymore. I don't want to lose you and Aunt too, okay, Uncle?"
Her tender tone was heart-wrenching. Seeing Jing Si remain silent, her small, pale hand grasped one of his fingers and gave it a gentle shake.
The gesture was something Yiliang had done countless times when trying to appear vulnerable. Jing Si's fingers trembled slightly before he quickly pulled back. The little one was so startled by his movement that she stiffened, not daring to say another word. She stood there quietly for a long time before her nose tingled, and her eyes filled with tears. In a small, hurt voice, she murmured, "Mr. Jing, I want to go home..."
What did she call him?
Jing Si's eyes turned cold as he sat down and asked Yiliang, "What did you call me?"
"Auntie said if you ever stopped wanting her, I shouldn't call you Uncle anymore. You're the Mr. Jing that everyone fears, and as Yiliang, I'm not worthy of calling you Uncle..."
Her childish words struck a chord in his heart. He reached out his large hand, and when the little girl placed her hand in his palm, he spoke slowly and heavily, "It's Auntie who doesn't want Uncle anymore."
"Then, Uncle, why did you bring me here?"
Though only four years old, she was sharp and got straight to the point with her question. Jing Si sighed softly.
Yes, why did he bring Yiliang here? To see her, to keep her close? If that was the case, why did he coldly reject her over the phone just moments ago?
After a long silence, Jing Si finally spoke in a low voice, "I don't know."
The words were so soft, it was as if nothing had been said at all. Yiliang looked at him, puzzled, and then obediently returned to the couch to read her book. The two of them, one big and one small, didn't speak for the entire afternoon.
It wasn't until he received another call from Yueyin. Her name flashed repeatedly on the screen, accompanied by her usual smiling photo, her dark eyes clear and pure as ever. He answered the call but didn't speak for a long time.
Finally, he heard her faint voice, "Help... help me..."
