C15 What Did I Do Wrong?

"What?" Huddled in the corner, Siya's face was full of disbelief as she clutched her phone and retreated further into the shadows. Her meticulously made-up eyes now looked frighteningly distorted. "Say that again."

The person on the other end patiently repeated the information.

This time, she heard it clearly—Xinxiao, that wretched woman, wasn't dead!

"It happened like this: Xinxiao tipped off someone when Mr. Hai wasn't paying attention, and by the time he reacted..."

Before the voice could finish, Siya abruptly threw her phone. Her chest heaved with anger, her face flushed with a faint red, and her eyes were chillingly cold. She gritted her teeth, "Xinxiao!"

She was determined not to let her get away with it!

Now, it wouldn't be easy to kill her. How could she stop her from coming back? In the dim, shadowy corner, Siya paced back and forth.

That evening, at the new Pei family residence.

"Dad, you have no idea how awful my second sister is," Siya sobbed, her beautiful eyes filled with hurt. "Zeming is already my husband, but she still wants to take him away. That day, I was kidnapped, and Zeming was supposed to save me. But she used their past relationship to threaten him into saving..." Her voice broke, and she couldn't continue.

Zeming glanced up at her, wanting to say something, but after a pause, he remained silent.

"Zhengjun, just look at this..." Rulan glanced sympathetically at Siya. "They’re sisters, yet how did things get this bad?"

Pei Zhengjun slammed his chopsticks down, his expression dark. "Go, bring her back to me."

Six years, and she hasn’t returned once. Does she even care about her father?

"I'm not sure that's a good idea," Rulan whispered. "Shouldn't the sisters sit down and talk it out? Xinxiao knows you're not well. She should consider her sister and your health. How can she call herself your daughter?"

"Mom, I'm your real daughter. Can you just watch me suffer?" Siya started to cry again.

Rulan shot her a look. "Whether you're my daughter or not, we need to be reasonable."

Siya looked defiant, but when she met Rulan's unyielding gaze, she slammed her chopsticks down in frustration. "I’m not eating. I’m done."

"Alright, it’s not that big of a deal," Zhengjun said, turning to Rulan. "Don’t bother trying to persuade them. I’ll handle this."

"Zhengjun..." Rulan didn’t want to settle things like this, but seeing his cold demeanor, she reluctantly held back her words.

This was exactly what she wanted.

Soon after, Xinxiao received a call from Siya. The smug tone on the other end made her frown, but it also strengthened her resolve to reclaim what was rightfully hers.

By the end of the conversation, Siya was boasting about her life with Zeming. "Zeming loves me so much. Even when he knew I lied, he didn't call me out on it. Six years into our marriage, and we're still as passionate as ever," she said, her voice dripping with pride.

In Xinxiao's memories, the man remained as gentle as ever, his gaze unchanged. But now, he belonged to someone else, and his tenderness and love were for another. The thought left Xinxiao feeling a deep pang of bitterness.

No, she couldn't let Siya defeat her. She had to be strong and take back everything that should have been hers. With that thought, her eyes hardened, and the bitterness on her face faded into calm determination. She replied softly, "What does any of this have to do with me? You're married; being in love is normal. I'll be there on time tomorrow." With that, she hung up the phone.

Leaning against the wall, memories of their past moments together flooded her mind, and tears silently streamed down her face like broken pearls. She recalled the man with a handsome face, pointing to the distant North Star, whispering softly in her ear, "When we get married, I want it to be our witness."

Now, everything has changed.

By the time Xinxiao arrived at the new Pei family home, it was already eight in the evening. Everyone was waiting for her in the living room. Except for her father, all she saw were faces she couldn't stand.

She walked slowly, step by step, stopping about three feet away from Pei Zhengjun, and softly called out, "Dad."

Pei Zhengjun struck her foot with his cane, scolding coldly, "Ungrateful girl, kneel!"

Xinxiao looked at him in surprise. "Dad, what did I do wrong?"

"Dad, it's not her fault. I'm the one to blame. If I hadn't taken Zeming away, leaving her single all this time, she wouldn't hate me so much," Siya interjected before Pei Zhengjun could speak.

Xinxiao watched as Pei Zhengjun's expression grew darker.

Ha, Siya not only stole her first love but also blamed everything on her, as always! Why had she been so weak before, unwilling to fight back?
