C19 He Was Going to Find a Girl for Him

Isn't he supposed to be like a phantom, rarely seen by anyone? Then why does she always seem to bump into him?

"What rotten luck," she grumbled, hurrying to find her sister to ask for time off and dodge another run-in with that weirdo.

The thought of his kiss made her shudder with discomfort. "Hey, isn't that the woman we were just talking about?" Sammie had just stepped outside when he caught sight of her retreating back and shouted out.

Thos was about to land a punch that could've knocked a few teeth loose from Sammie's mouth.

"Zip it and run for it," he commanded, sprinting away first. Sammie looked back to see Jabe slowly standing up and, without wasting another second, took off running.

They couldn't beat him in a fight. As he fled, Sammie found himself wondering if Jabe was equally skilled in the bedroom.

Katie quickly asked for leave, not even stopping to change her clothes, clutching her purse as she raced out of the nightclub.

"Jesus, that was terrifying." She walked a few hundred meters before she finally relaxed, turning to look back at the nightclub with its relentless neon glow. This place, seemingly a slice of heaven, could really throw you for a loop.

"Miss." At that moment, a man in a Mercedes pulled up next to her. Seeing her standing on the curb, he lit up a cigarette and took a deep drag before getting out of his car.

He scrutinized her from head to toe. Her uniform hugged her alluring figure, highlighting her elegance, and her delicate face with its subtle makeup was captivating.

"Do you need something?" she asked, though she was itching to leave. Given her job there, she couldn't afford to snub someone, so she asked politely, albeit reluctantly.

The man took another puff, blowing smoke rings around her and nodding with a leer. "Great body, beautiful face. You must be amazing in bed, right?"

Her face turned grim at his comment.

What was with her luck these days? Always running into perverts who brazenly made such lewd comments?

"You're mistaken," she said, turning to walk away, but the man grabbed her arm and pushed her toward the Mercedes. His imposing bulk pressed against her, trapping her and rendering her immobile.

His strength was immense, and his bulky body pressed against her, grinding back and forth as if he relished the contact.

"Fifteen hundred for the night, you in?" The sleazy guy tilted her chin, mistaking her for a streetwalker and bluntly propositioning her.

Lines of frustration creased Katie's forehead. Did merely standing on the sidewalk make her look like a call girl?

The thought was maddening... enough to make her want to explode in anger.

"You've got the wrong person; I'm not a prostitute," she said with strained patience. With her quick temper, she could have easily taken him down, but considering her own considerable strength and the man's car, which suggested he was someone of importance, she was especially cautious about offending the wrong person.

Why did she have to be so poor? Why did she end up working in such a place?

"If I say you are, then you are. Fifteen hundred not enough? How about fifteen fifty?" He nonchalantly added fifty yuan, pretending to be magnanimous.

"Damn it, I said I'm not!" She was seething, pushing against him with all her might, but he was like a weight on top of her.

His gaze was fixed on her, taking in her delicate features, as though he wanted to melt her into himself.

"Playing hard to get to drive up the price, right? I've got money to burn. Make it worth my while, and I'll add another fifty," the lewd man declared, as though fifty yuan was a fortune.

Katie's face turned crimson with rage. Why did these perverts keep cropping up everywhere, and why did they always seem to find her? Her head ached with the annoyance.

Jabe left the nightclub alone, his long fingers gently kneading the ache in his temples. Standing by the roadside, he pretended to sway with a tipsy daze and looked ahead.

He noticed a portly man pressing a woman against a car in a compromising position—a sight all too common and no longer shocking to him.

He was about to leave, car key in hand, when he heard a defiant yell: "Back off! Try touching me and see what happens!"

The voice was eerily familiar. Squinting his deep eyes, a wave of sobriety washed over him, and he moved swiftly toward the source of the disturbance.

Illuminated by the dim light, he glimpsed her profile—exquisite and eerily familiar. Her eyes, wide with defiance, seemed to pierce the gloom.

"Damn it, why her?" Jabe hadn't expected to run into Katie again. She had blundered into his life twice, which he had written off as coincidence. But what about now?

Her petite body was trapped beneath him, struggling in vain, her cries nearly piercing the quiet—yet no one came to her aid.

"You..." She looked up as a tall shadow blocked the light. Instinctively, her eyes found Jabe standing there, nonchalantly lighting a cigarette, seemingly amused by the scene.

Wasn't he the type to unsheathe his sword to right a wrong? Where was that valor now?

"Mr. Russell, save me." Her voice cracked, pleading for his intervention. But he merely observed her with a detached coolness, as if she were a stranger.

The sleazy man felt someone behind him and spun around to face a man calmly smoking. As he turned, Jabe's fist flew, striking his nose. The force knocked him back, his head slamming against the car door, leaving him moaning on the ground.

Jabe advanced with measured steps, surveying her disheveled state, her pitiful yet unyielding stance, her eyes still defiant.

"Do you make a habit of seducing men at night?" he asked coldly, drawing her close, his fingers pinching her chin, forcing her to look at him.

This exasperating woman, couldn't she keep out of mischief?

"You dare hit me?" The sleazy man, unaware of whom he had crossed, rose and charged, eager for payback. Jabe, without even looking back, kicked out, sending the man crashing down, unable to get up.

Katie stood in shock. What just happened? Was he trained to fight?

Recalling her own attempt to strike him, she felt a surge of turmoil.

"You find this sort of riffraff appealing?" Jabe's handsome face contorted with rage. She was, after all, his woman. How could she be lured by some nobody on the street?

She looked at him, her expression one of utter confusion. This whole mess had nothing to do with him.

Yet she kept quiet, resolutely silent.

It was as if her worst fears had come true; she had taken the night off specifically to avoid him. But, in a cruel twist of fate, it was because of him that she was harassed by a pervert.

Everything led back to him.

"So, you like making deals that much, huh?" Jabe's annoyance was clear as he scowled and spoke in a deep voice. His fingers pinched her chin tightly, as if he could crush her bones.

He loomed over her, his dark eyes deepening, his lips curling into an eerie smile.

"Are you that desperate... that thirsty? Is it because I didn't satisfy you enough that night? Hmm?" He straightened her face to look at him, his fingertips brushing against her fair skin, sparking an odd sensation deep within him.

"Pfft, Mr. Russell, feeling a bit amorous this late at night?" She burst into laughter, unable to hold it back. This man was shameless, spouting such bold words without a second thought.
