C3 It Was Actually Him!
Qu Zhenzhen suddenly realized she must have left her reference book on the ground that day!
"Is it you?" Xie Yaotian slightly furrowed his brow and turned to Xia Wanxin, asking, "Is she the one you wanted me to meet?"
"Yes, that's her." Wanxin praised Zhenzhen without holding back, "Her acting skills are really impressive, not much different from top-tier stars, and she has great potential for growth..."
Before she could finish, Yaotian interrupted with a raised eyebrow. "Wanxin, she's already signed with Ruocan."
"Don't be so quick to turn me down. If Zhenzhen... wait, what did you just say?" Wanxin was taken aback.
"Sorry, I didn't know you'd bring me here," Zhenzhen said, feeling a bit awkward. She blinked and added, "I just passed Ruocan's audition this morning and landed a supporting role in a time-travel series."
"Really? That's fantastic!" Wanxin was genuinely pleased. "Yaotian, don't you still need a lead for that romance series? I think Zhenzhen would be perfect. A fresh face as the lead would definitely steal the spotlight!"
"Two projects at once?" Yaotian's gaze briefly swept over Zhenzhen's face. "Aren't you overestimating her a bit?"
"I can do it," Zhenzhen suddenly spoke up. She locked eyes with Yaotian, forcing him to keep his attention on her. "I said I can handle it. It's just two series."
Her tone was bold, but her expression betrayed her nerves, which almost brought a smile to Yaotian's face. He tapped his pen on the table and said, "Alright, but this time your interviewer..."
"Is me."
There's no denying that the Chairman's interview questions were much tougher than usual, but Zhenzhen had the talent to back her up, so she passed each audition. As they were preparing for the final scene in the room, the door suddenly swung open.
The person barged in without even knocking, their tone cheerful: "Mr. Xie, I'm here to see you again! Do you think I'm right for this script..."
The voice stopped abruptly, and the intruder's eyes widened in surprise: "Zhenzhen?!"
Yuh Wan?!
Qu Zhenzhen immediately felt the world was quite peculiar; the more you try to avoid certain people, the more unavoidable they become.
"Mr. Xie! What's she doing in your office?!"
Yuh Wan stomped her foot, her voice distorted with anger, "Don't you know she had a terrible reputation at our company for being involved in all sorts of scandals?"
Qu Zhenzhen's eyelid twitched. She barely spoke to anyone, so how could she be involved in scandals?
"Mm."
Xie Yaotian responded indifferently, turning to hand the script to Qu Zhenzhen, "Read through this."
"She spreads gossip about others too!"
"Mm."
"And she's a troublemaker, always ready to start a fight! She's just like Ruocan!"
"Mm."
Yuh Wan felt awkward and uncomfortable with Xie Yaotian's cold demeanor. Only then did she notice the script in Qu Zhenzhen's hands and rushed forward to snatch it. Her expression turned colorful upon seeing it.
"Mr. Xie! Isn't this the script our company wanted to secure the lead role for?"
Yuh Wan's previously pleasant face twisted with anger as she glared at Qu Zhenzhen, "How could you even consider her for the lead role, Mr. Xie?!"
"Are you looking for trouble by not leaving?"
Suddenly, a chilling aura surrounded Xie Yaotian. His gaze turned icy as he looked at Yuh Wan, and the temperature in the room seemed to drop to freezing.
Faced with such a look, Yuh Wan regained some composure. She threw the script at Qu Zhenzhen with a cold sneer: "Mr. Xie, just wait and see. In a few days, there'll be reports of her causing trouble with the director, and then you'll see what kind of person she really is."
Qu Zhenzhen's lips twitched, but she remained silent. She simply didn't have the energy to argue with someone like Yuh Wan anymore.
"You, shut up."
Xie Yaotian tapped his fingers lightly on the table, his gaze growing colder. "I'm protecting her. As for you, leave immediately."
"You all want to protect her?!"
Yuh Wan was nearly losing her mind. She couldn't comprehend how a third-rate actress, whom she once trampled underfoot, had suddenly risen above her and was now closer to that man!
She was furious!
Unwilling to accept it, Yuh Wan tried to say more, but security surrounded her and escorted her out. Xie Yaotian coldly instructed behind her, "In the future, don't let people from these shady companies in. Keep a close watch."
Qu Zhenzhen burst into laughter. Who knew the always stern Chairman could have such a dark sense of humor?
"I just don't want to hear others' opinions about you."
Xie Yaotian turned back, staring at Qu Zhenzhen. "I hope to see you perform in Ruocan in a way that satisfies me."
After a pause, he added, "I heard you don't do kissing scenes?"
"That's right."
Qu Zhenzhen hesitated before replying, "I can do camera tricks, but nothing more. If there's a requirement for that, I can step down."
She had already lost many opportunities because of this.
Xie Yaotian looked at her without surprise, his tone calm, not rejecting her as she expected. "Today, there are scenes with the male lead. You can go to the set and watch."
Does this mean... he's agreeing to use her? Qu Zhenzhen could hardly believe it.
"Not leaving yet?"
Seeing Qu Zhenzhen standing there, dazed, Xie Yaotian suddenly sneered, "Do you need me to escort you, Miss Qu?"
Startled, Qu Zhenzhen quickly slipped out. This man was indeed handsome, but why did he feel so dangerous? Especially when he smiled.
She hailed a couple of cabs to the set, only to discover that the male lead she was working with was none other than Jing Yuanhao, a rising star in the entertainment industry. He was also very handsome, with dimples that appeared when he smiled, making him incredibly charming.
The two exchanged greetings, and Qu Zhenzhen sat nearby, watching Jing Yuanhao film a scene. She was only halfway through when someone approached her, saying that Miss Yuh Wan invited her to a café for a chat.
Zhenzhen was reluctant to go. Given their past issues, what was there to discuss? However, the person insisted she'd regret not going, so after some thought, she decided to go.
Once there, Zhenzhen regretted her decision. Yuh Wan got straight to the point: "I want you to leave Ruocan."
Zhenzhen felt a pang of frustration. "Come on, I've already signed on for two shows here. That's my income. If I leave, who's going to cover my breach of contract fees?"
Yuh Wan's expression was tense, yet she seemed oddly confident. She let out a soft, cold chuckle, then turned on her phone to play a video.
"Think it over. If you don't agree, I'll release this video."
