I watched from the distance, my eyes checked as I saw Maxine mingling with the crowd, singing and laughing as if she hadn’t just spent days in the dungeon. Anger simmered inside me. She had forgotten about me and that angered me more. She wasn’t supposed to be out so soon. I had hoped that a longer stay would teach her a good lesson about obedience and respect
