C6 Open marriage
No, Elise had decided. Her life was in her own hands. She would never bow to anyone again.
"Oh, but I have something to play to make you come to the courthouse with me," Elise pressed a button and some sounds came out of it. They could hear a woman moaning with a man. Kayden's face became pale and his eyes darkened.
Elise had recorded them when they made love to each other yesterday!
Was she blackmailing him?
"Elise, what the hell are you doing? Threatening me? Are you out of your mind?" Kayden laughed.
"You're right. I lost my mind thanks to you. These three years with you have made my brain deteriorate till there's nothing left. Be a good boy and come to the courthouse. If not, don't blame me for releasing this to the media."
"Finally, you're showing your true colors, Elise. Tired of playing the obedient housewife?" His eyes flitted to the phone in her hand.
Elise yawned. "I've always shown my true colors to you. It's you who never bothered to look. And don't think of snatching my phone and destroying the recording. I've uploaded it to my cloud drive and my friends will release it on my behalf if I don't see a divorce certificate in three hours time. By then, you and Jessica will be so famous," Elise smiled. Under the sunlight, Elise's smile was dazzling and stunningly beautiful. Her blue eyes twinkled.
It was like her personality had taken a 360-degree turn!
"Can't you tolerate and be magnanimous? I have to hold a meeting at that time," Kayden said.
"Tolerate? Magnanimous? Which woman wants her husband to bang other women in the same house they shared, right next door? Kayden, you have got to be kidding me. So you're actually asking for an open marriage? Why didn't you say so? I could have brought home a thousand handsome and able-bodied men to satisfy myself,"
"Elise, don't go too far!"
"Who's going too far and who started it, you should know very well," Elise smirked at him.
"So what's it gonna be? Come to the courthouse or let me release this recording?"
Elise had had enough of Kayden's cold and rotten treatment. She was just bidding her time, trying to push him for a divorce. She was not going to wait for him to kick her out. She will leave first, on her own accord.
Kayden glared daggers at her, his gaze radiating a murderous aura. She would have been scared if it was three years ago. She would have tried to persuade him or coax him back then. But now, she didn't care. She had seen it all and come to her senses.
Seeing that he wasn't making a move, Elise approached him.
"Scared? Of divorcing me? Because grandma wouldn't give the shares to you? Don't worry, I'll explain to her. Surely she would understand. As for the shares that she gave me, I'll transfer them back to you. Isn't this a win-win situation?"
Kayden looked at his wife of three years. She seemed to have become a different person, scheming and cunning, persuasive and bold. He felt a little impressed by her.
It was true that he was worrying about the shares. Without the shares, he would never be able to take the reins of the Anderson Group. He thought that she would keep the shares for herself and use them to determine her position as the CEO's wife.
Now, he wondered what kind of games she was playing with him. It was impossible for a woman who was poorer than a church mouse to give up shares that were worth millions.
Elise didn't care about the shares. It was better to cut off any connection they had to each other.
"Alright. Since you made this promise, I will go with you," Kayden said, his tone cold and aloof.
Jessica was surprised. She was watching them from afar, hiding behind a wall. Elise had never talked to Kayden in this tone before. What happened? Why did she change?
Not long after, they arrived at the courthouse. Kayden hastily signed the divorce certificate. On the other side, there were a few couples who were excitedly registering their marriage. Some of them were hugging and kissing. Some were holding hands lovingly. Elise flexed her fingers. Once, she used to wish to hold hands with her beloved and walk down the street together.
Like any other girl, she dreamt of true love and happily ever afters. She dreamt of wedding dresses and a beautiful honeymoon. But she never got any of that.
They walked out of the courthouse and down the stairs. Kayden glanced over at Elise, who wore a calm and relaxed expression. He couldn't help but frown.
Wasn't she crazily in love with him? Why did she suddenly want a divorce? He was expecting more reaction from her, but she seemed like a robot. He was actually waiting for her to regret her decision and apologize to him. Then maybe he wouldn't divorce her. But it seemed like she really wanted a divorce. Maybe this was all her tricks.
"Here's the transfer of shares," Elise pulled out a document and handed it to him. Kayden glanced at it and confirmed that it was real.
"Farewell, Ex-husband," Elise looked over her shoulder before she got into a cab and left. Kayden stared at her retreating figure, wondering why the words sounded ominous.
"Please drop me off here," Elise paid the driver and stopped in front of a club.
Loud disco music filled the place when she pushed open the door and strode in. Girls in skimpy outfits and topless men were grinding against each other, dancing and drinking. It was the place of the wild and untamed.
Meanwhile, Kayden was dragged to a nightclub by his friends.
"Let's go celebrate your divorce! You finally got rid of that leech!" Liam Evans, the heir of the Evans Group, excitedly said.
They sat down on a VIP lounge and ordered a lot of drinks.
"Hey, who's that beauty over there?"
