C12 Brassica Scrambled Pork

"Yes, let's get more so we can fix up the house when we get home."

The three siblings, all small and thin, made several trips back and forth before they finally had enough.

A chance arose for Gu Fanjin to slip into the storage area, where she found some insulation panels. She planned to reinforce the house with these panels and cover them with thatch, hoping it would blend in seamlessly.

It turned out to be much more complicated than she had anticipated. Fortunately, after five or six days of hard work, the house finally looked decent.

"Big Sis, our house doesn't let the wind in anymore!"

Gu Momo's face was lit with excitement and joy.

Gu Fanjin looked around. While it wasn't as nice as a brick house, it was a significant improvement from when she first arrived.

"Tomorrow, let's plow the open space in the yard and plant some seasonal vegetables. That way, we can have more to eat."

With their own greenhouse, there was no need to keep deceiving the two kids to hide her secret stash, nor worry about attracting unnecessary attention.

"Sis, can we raise some chickens?" Momo asked hopefully. "Then we could have eggs every day."

"Of course, we can also raise some rabbits. Didn't Momo and Junjun say rabbit meat is tasty? We can raise them and have rabbit meat for the holidays."

As soon as she said this, Momo and Junjun nearly burst with excitement.

Seeing their eager faces, Gu Fanjin felt a wave of tenderness. The kids didn't know she wasn't their real sister, but since she was here now, she wouldn't let them suffer.

Determined to act, Gu Fanjin got up early the next morning and rummaged through the kitchen corner, finding a few tools like a hoe, sickle, and shovel.

Though they didn't have much, they were functional. She decided to swap the hoe for a lighter, more efficient alloy one from her stash.

Their house might have been rundown, but the yard was spacious, about half an acre. It was enough for her to plan a vegetable garden and set aside space for chickens, ducks, and rabbits.

Gu Fanjin didn’t let the two little ones handle the chores, as they were too young and might accidentally hurt themselves. However, the kids were eager to help and took it upon themselves to gather some firewood scattered around the area where they planned to raise rabbits, bringing it all to the kitchen.

After a full day of work, they finally got the yard tidied up.

“Hungry?” Gu Fanjin asked with a gentle smile, giving Junjun’s cheek a playful pinch. “Momo, take your brother to wash your hands. Dinner will be ready soon.”

“Sis, we can help you with the stove,” Momo offered.

Before Gu Fanjin could respond, Junjun chimed in with a cheerful agreement.

So, Momo and Junjun each grabbed a small stool and sat by the stove, watching their big sister prepare dinner while they tended the fire.

Since it was getting late, Gu Fanjin decided to make something simple to avoid keeping them hungry for too long. She took some leftover pork belly from the pantry. It was early fall, and the weather wasn’t too cold yet, so she had kept the meat chilled in well water with a few ice cubes to prevent spoilage.

Gu Fanjin planned to make asparagus stir-fried with pork. She boiled the pork belly over medium heat, let it cool, and then sliced it thinly. She also sliced the washed asparagus into thin pieces.

Since the kids couldn’t handle too much spice, she opted for bell peppers instead.
