C13 Root Growth Potion

As the oil heated in the pan, the two little ones watched eagerly, licking their lips like hungry kittens. Gu Fanjin scooped out a couple of slices of the browned pork belly with a spatula, placing them on a plate nearby for the kids to nibble on and satisfy their cravings.

The pork belly, cooked without any seasoning, left their mouths oily, and the savory aroma filled their taste buds. Junjun even smacked his lips a few times, making Gu Fanjin chuckle as she added the vegetables to the pan and continued to stir-fry.

“How about we make some carrot pancakes?” she suggested.

The kids had no objections to Gu Fanjin's proposal; they were practically jumping for joy. With some lard on hand, she thought the pancakes would be even more flavorful if made with lamb fat, something to try in the future.

The carrots were a lucky find while they were out gathering wild grass on the hillside, each about the length of her hand. Freshly pulled from the ground, they still carried the scent of earth. She rolled up her sleeves, washed a couple, and then sliced them into thin strips.

“Are we adding eggs, too?” Momo asked, a bit concerned when she saw her older sister take out two eggs.

After all, they hadn’t had pancakes with just carrots before, let alone with eggs, which were precious. Using two at once seemed extravagant, even if Gu Fanjin had found them in the hills, a lucky find.

Gu Fanjin understood Momo’s concern. Despite being only a few years older than Junjun, Momo was much more aware.

“Don’t worry, Momo. Once we raise some chicks, we’ll have plenty of eggs. Besides, you and Junjun are still growing and need to eat well.”

“Okay, I’ll do whatever you say, big sis,” Momo nodded, her face full of trust in Gu Fanjin.

Carrot and egg pancakes are easy to make. Just mix the carrot strips and eggs with some flour to form a batter.

As the first egg pancake came off the skillet, the kitchen was filled with the rich aroma of eggs. Eight golden carrot and egg pancakes were soon stacked on a plate. Meanwhile, the sweet potato and rice porridge in another pot was almost ready. Since it was evening, Gu Fanjin had used a bit less rice, making it less thick and easier to digest.

"Big Sis, these egg pancakes smell amazing and taste even better," Junjun said contentedly, sitting at the table with a pancake in hand.

Gu Fanjin served three bowls of sweet potato porridge and replied, "There will be plenty of good food from now on, Junjun. Just eat to your heart's content."

As Gu Momo took her bowl, she asked, "Sis, should we go to town tomorrow to buy some seeds?"

"I've already arranged for someone to bring us seeds. We can plant them tomorrow," Gu Fanjin assured her.

"Great," Gu Momo responded.

Watching them enjoy their meal, Gu Fanjin smiled and added more food to the younger ones' plates. They had been eating well these past few days, and their cheeks looked much healthier. However, their clothes were still the same old ones, and with the snowstorm approaching, they would need warmer outfits. The clothes in her storage were all modern and unsuitable for this place. Since she couldn't sew, it seemed a trip to town to have some clothes made was in order.

Early the next morning, the three siblings got up to plant the seeds. Of course, these weren't seeds brought by someone else; Gu Fanjin had taken them from her own storage. She had soaked them in rooting powder the night before to ensure a higher survival rate.
