C7 Don't Hit Me Anymore
If she died, they’d have to deal with it quickly. Otherwise, when the second son and his wife came back, there’d be trouble. She had already made up her mind last night. After all, she was just a burden. She’d tell the second son and his wife that she died of an illness. The other two kids were too young to say anything.
Who would have thought that as soon as she walked in, she’d see the girl, who was supposed to be dead, coming out of the living room.
At the same time, Fan Jin was sizing up the woman in front of her, who looked to be in her fifties. Her hair was meticulously styled, pinned up with a slender silver hairpin. Her bloated features and sharp, triangular eyes made her seem even more harsh.
The grandmother was dressed to the nines, while the three siblings looked like they were begging on the streets. It made sense that someone like her would do such a thing.
As soon as Mrs. Feng entered, she caught a whiff of meat cooking. Her eyes, sharp and calculating, scanned the room. Fan Jin thought that if there were a radar here, Mrs. Feng’s eyes would rival any detector.
“Did you have meat?” Her voice was shrill, not matching her stout figure. The question was more of a statement, given the strong aroma of meat.
This realization made Mrs. Feng even more furious, especially since she hadn’t found anything the day before.
“You’re here so early. I thought you came to see if you’d run me over,” Fan Jin said with a slight smile.
Mrs. Feng stared at the usually quiet girl, surprised that she was talking back. Her eyes widened in anger, and she raised her hand to strike.
“Momo, Grandma’s going to hit Sister!” Fan Jin shouted. Two little ones came running over, clearly worried and waiting to see if their sister would be bullied.
Momo and Junjun, both crying, pushed at Mrs. Feng, “Go away, go away.”
Mrs. Feng, pushed to her limit, shouted, “Get out of my way!”
Gu Fanjin noticed someone passing by outside the yard and gave Momo a knowing look. Momo, catching on, leaned into Mrs. Feng's movement and suddenly collapsed to the ground with a thud.
Mrs. Feng was puzzled, thinking she hadn't used any force. Before she could react, Gu Momo started wailing loudly, crying out, "Help! Grandma's trying to kill me! Help!"
Mrs. Feng, sensing trouble, tried to head inside, planning to grab the meat and leave quickly. But Gu Momo clung to her leg, sobbing, "Grandma, please don't hit us anymore. We'll bring you the first batch of wild greens we gather from the hills. Just don't hit us again, Grandma."
Soon, a crowd gathered at the door, drawn by the commotion. Everyone knew the Gu family's second branch siblings were mistreated by Mrs. Feng, but it was considered their family matter. Even if people disapproved, few dared to intervene. Mrs. Feng was known for being unreasonable and sharp-tongued, and anyone who got involved risked being berated by her for days.
Seeing the second branch's little girl crying so pitifully, the onlookers shook their heads and sighed. If the parents didn't return soon, these three siblings would be worn down by such treatment.
"What are you doing? Get up," Mrs. Feng barked, trying to pull her leg free as the crowd pointed and whispered. To everyone's shock, the little girl rolled away in apparent agony.
To the onlookers, it seemed Mrs. Feng had angrily kicked the second branch's little girl.
Gu Fanjin rushed over to help Momo up, his fingers trembling with anger. "Grandma, how could you kick Momo? You don't deserve to be our grandma! We don't want a grandma like you!"
