C8 Chapter 7

Cai Ruolan felt very uncomfortable as the maid servants dressed her up, she wondered why things were going roughly for her.

She lost her nanny a few days ago, and she’s also getting married!

How very thoughtless of the emperor, doesn’t he know that she was still a mourner and wasn’t allowed to be getting married instantly?

As if he cares anyways, but he should have at least kept a whole year. Cai Ruolan felt that she was not respecting her dead nanny. As a bride, she would have to wear hairpins and also be dressed beautifully in a red bridal gown which was not right for a mourner to wear.

Cai Ruolan felt very bad.

She knew that this marriage was arranged of course, but she knew not who her husband is going to be neither did she hear a word about him.

However, as she stood behind her window, Cai Ruolan saw a group of maid girls passed by carrying large trunks together. She overheard one of them saying.

‘But his highness is quite kind to send this bridal gifts, even if she was going to die after all’

‘Yes, I wish I owned such things.’ Another nodded.

Die?

What did they meant by that?

But how will her father plan the marriage so soon, at least he should have waited for a few month so that they could carry out important matters based on the culture.

There was no matchmaker!

The bridal gifts were brought late instead of three months earlier before the wedding!

Not a proper wedding date was fixed!

She only knew about her own marriage on her wedding day!

And she knew not who her husband is.

Cai Ruolan was dressed in a beautiful red hanfu with little shiny golden colored designs, she was also wearing golden earrings, necklaces and bracelets which she wasn’t suppose to as a mourner. Her nose and mouth was covered with a red shiny veil and she looked just like an angel.

Cai Ruolan tried not to cry as she looked around her room for Wang Eumeh, at least if she was alive, she would have been the one to dress, and advise her. She would have stood beside her as a mother.

But she was gone, and they was no one she could trust. None of her father’s concubines and consort loved her enough to tell her how to handle everything most especially since the marriage was arranged.

A maid girl brought a beautiful golden phoenix hairpin out of a red box and was about to fix it on her hair.

“Don’t please, I’m not suppose to wear any accessories” she pleaded looking at the maid’s face.

The woman frowned, “It’s the empress that ordered me to help you wear the hairpin young miss, don’t tell me you’re trying to defy her” she said in anger.

“No I’m not but my nanny died a few…”

“But it’s your wedding. Please let me do my job, after I wear it for you then you could go tell her that you want to take it off, aren’t you even wearing earrings and necklaces?” she rolled her eyes while fixing the hairpin on Cai Ruolan’s lengthy hair.

Cai Ruolan wasn’t surprised when the maid servant mentioned the empress, of course the evil thing would try to get rid of her in any ways she could, and this is a great avenue for her.

Cai Ruolan stood up from her seat then went to Wang Eumeh’s room, she wanted to take one more look at her nanny’s room.

As she looked around, Cai Ruolan’s grey eyes fell on a cream colored bag hung on the wall.

What was that and what’s in there?

Cai Ruolan climbed a stool and reached out for the bag, she untied it hurriedly.

In there was a few bone hairpins, a folding fan with mountain paintings, and an old book with Wang Eumeh’s handwriting.

The diary!

She tied up the bag and kept it with her, she was taking with her to her husband’s house, she would have wanted to start reading the diary but she wouldn’t want to be hastened up.

The palace hall was beautifully decorated with red colorful silks, there were already a few men seating on the chair .

You would wonder why there wasn’t a single girl there right?

Everyone believed the false rumor.

Emperor Cai Huateng sat gracefully on his throne as he watched the guests taking their seats.

He was smiling to himself, ‘Only if the brat of a crown prince knew that he was going to be killed today’

A soldier from Huexiang empire had entered the palace hall. He looked around.

‘Why aren’t they any female here’ he wondered as he walked towards emperor Cai Huateng who seems to be lost in his pool of thoughts.

“Greetings your imperial highness, his majesty is on his way here” he bowed before looking around.

“Oh, I’m glad to hear that” Emperor Cai Huateng replied in a broad smile. He should really seat, wait and watch.

It's a bad thing that empress Hu Melien and his daughters couldn’t attend to watch what was going to happen in the next few hours.

He heard footsteps, seems they were lot’s of people walking towards the hall, it was also obvious that the crown prince was coming.

Everyone stood up as the crown prince stepped in the hall, all eyes fell on him.

This was the first time some folks were also seeing him, they gasped as they exchanged shocked glances.

‘Could the crown prince of Huexiang really be this handsome?’

He never bothered about the eyes on him since he was already used to it, he walked towards the emperor.

He was also wearing a red and golden colored hanfu, his jet black hair was styled in a high ponytail as usual and was also beautified in a gold crown.

He bowed slightly to the emperor before going taking his seat.

Emperor Cai Huateng smiled as he watched the crown prince took his seat.

‘Only if he knew’

Xie Yuxuan never hesitated to ask emperor Cai Huateng.

“Why aren’t they any females here your majesty?”

Emperor Cai Huateng looked at him in astonishment. “I thought you can’t stand..”

“You actually believed the rumors? If it’s what you like then fine. It’s your daughter’s wedding anyways”

Emperor Cai Huateng couldn’t believe what he just heard.

The rumor?

The crown prince himself said it was all fake, which means that he would make a good and caring husband.

‘Oh no’ he drooped his head in disappointment, and he already announced that Cai Ruolan was getting married to him.

If only he could rearrange the marriage.

A guard announced that the bride would be coming soon.

Emperor Cai Huateng asked the crown prince that was seating beside him.

“You mean no females die…. You mean the stories aren’t true?”

“I wouldn’t lie would I?” Xie Yuxuan chuckled.

Emperor Cai Huateng knew that it was too late, he wished there was a way he could prepare Cai Tianai, but if he tried it in the way he wanted, he would become the laughing stock of the city and would degrade his status as an emperor.
