C35 I Believe That You Are Not Enough!
"It seems he's determined to protect this woman today. Once she's part of our family, she'll surely bring chaos to the house."
Lu Qiaoyun helped her daughter up, looking heartbroken. "Sweetie, let's go home. Don't bother with that woman; she'll get what's coming to her."
Liang Junhui stood up too, glaring angrily at Liang Xinghao. "I'm very disappointed in you, Uncle."
Liang Xinghao remained silent, his expression unchanged, as he watched them leave the hall.
The Liang family estate was vast, much larger than Shen Geyao had imagined. The main house was where the patriarch and matriarch lived, and just outside, a path led to a courtyard. Each courtyard housed a different branch of the family.
Third Master and his family lived in one of these courtyards, still within the Liang estate, but a bit of a distance away. To get from the main house to Third Master's courtyard, they even needed to take a golf cart, which spoke volumes about the estate's size.
After watching Shen Geyao for a while, Liang Yueyin smiled at Liang Xinghao. "Mr. Hao, I'm heading out too." She turned and walked away, her steps light and joyful, like a butterfly.
With the doctors and nurses gone, the servants tidied up the mess on the floor and then left as well.
The entire hall returned to silence, as clean as if nothing had happened.
"Your hand is injured. Go put some medicine on it," Xinghao said, turning to head upstairs.
Geyao hesitated for a moment but eventually followed him up.
Xinghao was the son of the Eldest Master. Although the Eldest Master had his own quarters in the Liang family estate, Xinghao lived in the main house.
In fact, the main house was enormous, and the Old Master's grandsons all lived there. As for the granddaughters, they could either stay there or go back to their parents' quarters. Most of the time, they chose the latter.
From this, Geyao could see how much the Liang family favored sons over daughters. The status of the granddaughters was far inferior to that of the grandsons.
Fortunately, the Old Lady's room was far from the hall; otherwise, the earlier commotion would have surely disturbed her.
Geyao couldn't understand how such a gentle and kind Old Lady could have a son like Junhui, who couldn't distinguish right from wrong, and such terrifying granddaughters!
"I wasn't lying. Yuqi came in and demanded I take off my dress, then went crazy and attacked me, and Yueyin..."
In her panic, she hadn't realized what tripped her, but now it was clear. It was Yueyin who had deliberately stuck out her foot to trip her!
"Yuqi chased me with a knife, Yueyin tripped me, and then Yuqi pinned me down."
"As for Yuqi's injury, yes, I caused it, but it was self-defense!"
She had almost lost all hope in the family, except for the one kind old lady. As for Xinghao, she had no faith in him either. The whole family was a piece of work!
"Even if you call the police, I won't admit it's my fault!"
Xinghao sat quietly in the chair, listening to her.
Finally, he said calmly, "Call the police?"
"I'm not afraid of you calling the police."
"Do you really think anyone would call the police over something like this in a big mansion?"
Geyao paused, not continuing. She knew calling the police was out of the question, but she felt so wronged!
Even though the Third Master and his family had left, they had already pinned the blame on her. It seemed like they weren't pursuing it, but in reality, her guilt was set in stone, leaving no room for redemption!
"Have you put me on your enemy list too?"
Xinghao leaned back in his chair, crossing his long legs with a lazy demeanor.
Geyao didn't reply, but she turned her face away from him.
Isn't that the case? They all share the same last name; they're family!
"I'm your fiancé." Isn't that a closer bond than any cousin?
"It's not real," Geyao scoffed.
Unexpectedly, Liang Xinghao's face turned serious, and his voice grew cold. "Try saying that again!"
"I..." Shen Geyao bit her lip, swallowing her words, not daring to speak recklessly again.
They had agreed that once they returned to the Liang household, she would act as if she truly were his fiancée. Saying anything about it being fake was absolutely forbidden. She had just been caught up in the moment and spoke without thinking.
She remained silent, sitting back on the couch, quietly sipping her tea. The room had already been tidied by the staff, and even the vase on the coffee table had been replaced.
Liang Xinghao's gaze fell on her. "Calmed down now?"
Shen Geyao glanced at him and huffed, "What else can I do but calm down?"
"Isn't my trust enough for you?" After all, he was still her nominal fiancé.
"What does that..." Suddenly, she widened her eyes, staring at him. "Did you say you trust me?"
"You're my fiancée. If I don't trust you, who else would I trust?"
"But we are..." Shen Geyao didn't dare finish the sentence with the word "fake."
However, Liang Xinghao's trust did make her feel a lot better inside.
Seeing that she had truly calmed down, Liang Xinghao finally said, "This house is too big, and there are all kinds of people here. Be careful in the future."
"That Liang Yuqi is really a nutcase, seriously!" Not only a nutcase but also an actor!
She had never met someone so inexplicable; one wrong word and they immediately resorted to violence, even daring to use a knife! Looking at her demeanor, it seemed she wouldn't be afraid even if she committed murder, especially with unreasonable parents backing her up. It's true what they say: the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
In comparison, Shen Geyao suddenly felt that the young ladies of the Shen family were much gentler, even if each one was more cunning than the last.
"Yuqi was frail and often sick as a child, almost not making it several times. Her parents doted on her and gave in to her every whim, which led to her current personality," he explained.
Though he wasn't particularly familiar with his cousins, he knew a thing or two about them. Shen Geyao pursed her lips, tempted to say that his uncle and aunt weren't exactly saints either. But since he claimed to trust her, she decided it was best not to badmouth his family. After all, he knew what kind of people they were.
"What should I do if they keep bullying me?" she asked. It was only her second day here, and things had almost turned deadly. Who knows how many more schemes she'd face in the coming year?
Liang Xinghao glanced out the window and suddenly smiled faintly. "Life in a wealthy family is never peaceful. Besides learning to protect yourself, you have no other choice."
Shen Geyao swallowed her complaints once more.
The smile on Xinghao's lips was chilling, so much so that she felt it was devoid of any warmth. What kind of life had he led to develop such an icy demeanor? Had he experienced many unsettling events as a child? The idea of a grand mansion suddenly seemed terrifying to Geyao. Sometimes, having too much money isn't necessarily a good thing.
