C40 Which Young Lady Would Dance for Him?
Xinghao wasn't really interested in dancing. However, he still stood up and offered his hand to Miss Yao with a gentlemanly gesture. "Miss Yao, may I have this dance?"
"I don't know how to dance," Shen Geyao admitted, feeling a bit reluctant.
But under the cold gaze of Chenyu, she figured it might be better to keep her distance. She'd rather dance with Xinghao than sit there, enduring Chenyu's icy stares.
"I'm not a good dancer. Aren't you afraid I'll embarrass you?" she whispered to Xinghao.
Xinghao nodded. "I am."
Geyao's face fell. Did he have to be so blunt?
"But," Xinghao smiled gently, realizing how straightforward she could be at times, "I'm not a great dancer either. We can be embarrassed together."
Geyao was taken aback, then couldn't help but smile as she placed her hand in his. The two of them glided effortlessly onto the dance floor, not noticing the piercing gaze that briefly swept over their joined hands from a distance.
"Laojiu, aren't you going to dance?" the old lady asked, glancing at the eager young women nearby. "There are plenty of friends of Yuqi and Yueyin here tonight, and even some of Yulu's friends. Isn't there anyone who catches your eye?"
It seemed like at every party, the younger generation's female friends would show up in droves.
Chenyu was well aware of the matriarch's intentions, but he truly couldn't bring himself to be interested in any of those girls.
"Chenyu has high standards, Mom, don't push him," Tianxiang always enjoyed stepping in to help Chenyu out of a tight spot.
The matriarch shot him a look, slightly displeased. "Your kids are almost as old as Chenyu, and you don't seem worried at all!"
"With Chenyu's credentials, if he just mentioned he wanted to get married, there'd be a line of girls around the city willing to marry him. What's there to worry about?"
"Enough out of you!" she snapped, glaring at him.
Tianxiang quickly covered his mouth, knowing better than to argue with the matriarch.
She turned her attention back to Chenyu, only to notice his gaze was fixed on the dance floor. This was unusual for him, as he typically had no interest in these events. Could it be that someone had finally caught his eye?
She promptly gestured to Yulu, who was standing not too far away.
Yulu glanced back at her group of friends, who had been waiting eagerly for this moment. The most daring among them, unable to contain her excitement, took the lead and approached.
"Ninth Master," she stammered, her breath uneven with nerves, struggling to get the words out.
"Ninth Master, I... I think I..."
"The restroom is in the corner," Liang Chenyu replied coolly, not even glancing at her.
The girl's face turned ghostly pale. She wanted to say something but lacked the courage. After taking one last, longing look at the face that haunted her dreams, she bit her lip, tears brimming in her eyes, and ran off.
The others were left speechless. It was clear she wanted to invite him to dance, and he simply pointed her to the restroom. What a way to turn someone down!
Liang Zixu secretly took note of this tactic. In the future, if he needed to reject a girl, he'd just tell her where the restroom was. Genius!
Seeing the first girl leave in tears, the others were eager but hesitant. What kind of girl could possibly win the Ninth Master's heart?
Over by the dance floor, Shen Geyao was initially a bit nervous. She had taken ballroom dance lessons before, but not as extensively as her sisters. Thankfully, Liang Xinghao was a good dancer and could guide her.
As they got into the rhythm, even Shen Geyao's steps started to look graceful. After all, she was just an eighteen-year-old girl, and once she got the hang of it, she found it more and more enjoyable. As she relaxed, her coordination with Liang Xinghao improved, and they danced together beautifully.
After the fast-paced dance track ended, a slow, elegant tune began to play. Xinghao placed his hand on Geyao's lower back, pulling her closer. As the rhythm grew more romantic, even their dance steps seemed to follow suit, bringing their bodies almost together.
"Those two kids look more and more perfect for each other," the elderly lady remarked, her eyes filled with delight as she watched the dance floor.
Chenyu's glass was suddenly empty, though he couldn't recall when he finished it. A servant was about to refill it when Chenyu slammed the glass onto the table with a loud thud.
"Sir," the maid stammered, nearly dropping the bottle in her hand, startled by his icy expression. "Would you like more wine?"
Unexpectedly, Chenyu stood up and headed toward the cluster of young women at the back. The girls were so nervous they barely dared to breathe, wanting to approach him but lacking the courage.
The nearest girl, Yulu, hurried over, flustered. "Uncle."
"Which lady would like to honor me with a dance?" Chenyu asked, his gaze sweeping over the elegantly dressed group, his voice devoid of any emotion.
Regardless of whether they were indifferent or bursting with enthusiasm, the girls were absolutely thrilled! The idea that the Ninth Master would invite them to dance was beyond their wildest dreams. Yet, here he was, actually asking them.
Yulu glanced at the girls beside her, not looking pleased at all. Weren’t they just pushing her to introduce them to her uncle? Some were even quite aggressive about it. Now that her uncle was here, not one of them said yes. What were they thinking?
In truth, it wasn’t that they didn’t want to; they were simply stunned by the Ninth Master’s unexpected invitation. Each one was so excited they could hardly think straight.
“Uncle, Tongtong wants to dance with you. Is that okay?” Yueyin quickly approached, holding the hand of a very pretty girl, grinning from ear to ear. “Uncle, this is my friend, Liu Tongtong, the third daughter of the Liu Corporation.”
Chenyu didn’t pay much attention to the Liu or Song family names. He nodded but didn’t extend his hand to her. Instead, he turned and headed toward the dance floor.
Liu Tongtong suddenly felt awkward. Isn’t the man supposed to lead the woman to the dance floor? What was the Ninth Master doing?
Seeing Liu Tongtong not responding, Yueyin gave her a nudge. “What are you doing? Uncle agreed to dance with you, so hurry up!”
"Don't forget what you promised me."
"I-I definitely won't forget!" Liu Tongtong finally snapped back to reality and quickly caught up with Liang Chenyu.
The Ninth Master was just taken away!
This girl clearly wasn't part of their group; she was from Liang Yueyin's side!
