C16 It Was Her

Chiang Chen leaned back in his chair, his foot bouncing restlessly, looking utterly bored.

"Do you think it's interesting for Yuchen to ditch his dad's billion-dollar legacy to dabble in fashion design?"

Although Gu Junbai thought it was a bit odd for a guy to focus on women's clothing, he understood that everyone has their own interests, just like his passion for computers and coding.

"At least Yuchen is keeping it clean with his fashion stuff. It's better than you hiding behind a lab coat, misleading naive young women."

Chiang Chen didn't like that comment.

"Hey, hey, it's all consensual, alright? And I've been on the straight and narrow for years now."

Gu Junbai's gaze casually drifted to the runway, and with his sharp eyes and exceptional memory, he instantly recognized Luh Xinxin.

"Have you been looking for a woman all these years?"

Chiang Chen froze.

He had been discreetly searching for someone, and although Gu Junbai's help would make it easier, Chiang Chen preferred to keep this personal matter private.

Chiang Chen, unusually serious, replied, "If you already know, why are you asking?"

A few years ago, Chiang Chen was quite the player, never getting too involved. During a medical lecture, he became interested in a college student and had kept her close ever since, settling down and avoiding other entanglements.

Years ago, there was an arranged marriage in the family. On the wedding day, something happened with a college girl, and he left the bride at the altar to rush to her side. No one knows exactly what happened after that, but the college girl disappeared. He never got married and hasn't been with anyone else since, spending all these years searching for her.

"If I'm not mistaken, that's the girl on the runway," Gu Junbai remarked, his gaze fixed on Luh Xinxin, who was on the catwalk.

At that moment, Luh Xinxin, dressed in a light blue gown, reached the center of the runway and struck a pose, her eyes inadvertently meeting those of Chiang Chen, who was seated in the front row.

Initially, Luh Xinxin's expression was natural, but the instant she saw Chiang Chen, her face froze, and her eyes reflected a complex mix of emotions. If not for the footsteps of the model following her, she might have forgotten she was on the runway. Despite the turmoil inside, she managed to complete her walk without a hitch.

Once Chiang Chen confirmed it was Luh Xinxin on stage, he quickly left his seat and headed backstage.

Backstage, Luh Xinxin seemed to be fleeing as she hurriedly changed out of her show dress and into her own clothes. She quickly told Mr. Lei she had an urgent matter and slipped away.

With the seat next to him now empty, Gu Junbai felt even more bored. As the show neared its end, he figured he'd shown enough support for his friend and stood up to leave. However, something on the runway caught his eye, and he paused, rooted to the spot.

Ann Xiaomin?

Gu Junbai thought he was seeing things. He stared more intently as the person on stage walked closer. He was now a hundred percent sure that the model looked exactly like his newlywed wife.

No, it was her.

Ann Xiaomin was striding down the runway in five-inch heels, wearing the evening's featured gown. The dress was elegantly simple, adorned only with a fabric flower on the left side, its petals embedded with diamond stamens.
