C11 New Recruit Training

Lin Meng shot her a fierce glare, twisting her head and jutting out her chin in a clear display of her irritation.

Yang Chuxia burst into laughter. Friendships among young women can blossom quickly, with a bit of chatter and teasing quickly cementing their bond as good friends.

The following morning, at precisely 5:10 AM, Yang Chuxia was roused from sleep with a reminder that she had only half an hour before military training commenced.

The night before, she had diligently prepared all the necessary training materials and information for the day's session. Upon hearing the wake-up call, Yang Chuxia sprang into action.

In just three minutes, she had freshened up and used the restroom. It took another seven minutes to don her military uniform. With thirteen minutes to spare, she hurried to the Training Field. It was her first time participating in military training, and she was determined not to be late, so she jogged all the way there.

Yang Chuxia's identity had been revealed after her injury in a skirmish with General Edi the previous day. Thus, her sudden appearance at the Training Field drew curious glances from everyone, as if they were puzzled about her presence.

The instructor, a male officer in his thirties, noted the time and immediately blew his whistle, signaling the soldiers to assemble. At the sound of the whistle, the troops promptly formed ranks.

Yang Chuxia hesitated, unsure of which line to join. Deciding to act, she ran to the end of the nearest queue.

The morning's first lesson was weight training. The instructor gave his usual brief speech before cutting to the chase: "Soldier Yang Chuxia is the doctor of our Flying Eagle Combat Group. General Edi has approved her participation with the new recruits! I hope you all will live in harmony and support one another."

It might have been due to Dr. Yang Chuxia's status that the instructor didn't call on her to introduce herself. Nevertheless, there was no need for introductions; the recruits all recognized her.

Her bout with General Edi the day before had not only set a new record for the longest fight against him, but Dr. Yang had also managed to land an attack on the General. Despite ending up heavily injured and unconscious, she had quickly become a standout among the new soldiers—it was impossible not to know her.

Running five kilometers with added weight was a daily morning ritual for the new recruits. Beside the thirty-plus tracks, a large box held smart Weight Increasing Machines, each the size of a pack of cigarettes.

As everyone made their way onto the track, they switched on their Weight Increasing Machines and attached them to their belts.

Yang Chuxia, being new to the scene, was the last to arrive at the track. She observed the soldier ahead of her activate the Weight Increasing Machine and hang it on his belt, after which a string of numbers appeared on the device's screen.

Once the Weight Increasing Machine settled on a specific kilogram figure, it would halt, and the soldier would proceed onto the track. Interestingly, the kilogram figure varied from one soldier's machine to another. Yang Chuxia surmised that the machines must be calibrated to each soldier's individual weight capacity.

When her turn came, Yang Chuxia mimicked the others, picking up a Weight Increasing Machine, turning it on, and securing it to her belt. To her surprise, the machine kept cycling through numbers and eventually emitted a mechanical voice: "No suitable kilogram value found for your weight. Please replace the Weight Increasing Machine."

At this, the instructor was taken aback. The machines were designed to range from 10 to 35 kilograms, yet none seemed to match Yang Chuxia's weight. Surely, she couldn't be incapable of running with a mere 10-kilogram load? That would suggest a remarkably poor physical condition.

The track was circular, and as the announcement echoed, many soldiers turned their attention to Yang Chuxia. Given her impressive skirmish with General Edi the day before, it was inconceivable that she couldn't handle a 10-kilogram weight.

With a puzzled expression, Yang Chuxia removed the Weight Increasing Machine and sheepishly said to the instructor, "Sir, it seems this Weight Increasing Machine is malfunctioning. I'll try another one."

Considering her suggestion, the instructor thought it plausible that the machine was faulty. He accepted the malfunctioning device from her and suggested, "Alright, let's try a different one."

Yang Chuxia picked up another machine and attached it, but soon after, it too began to voice the same message, "No suitable kilogram value found for your weight. Please replace the Weight Increasing Machine."

Now Yang Chuxia herself was bewildered. What were the odds that she'd encounter two defective machines? With a nervous glance at the instructor, she silently removed the machine from her waist and, without a word, reached for yet another one, only to face the same issue.

Yang Chuxia started to wonder if she possessed some unique ability that could sabotage or disrupt the Intelligence System of the Weight Increasing Machine.

The instructor watched her, at a loss for words. After a moment of contemplation, he walked over to a cabinet by the track entrance, retrieved another Weight Increasing Machine, and handed it to her.

Yang Chuxia hurried over, set up the new machine, and soon enough, she was experiencing the same issues as with the previous three machines.

The instructor's face took on an odd expression.

Filled with anxiety, Yang Chuxia watched him, dreading that he might become angry and send her away. It was peculiar; everyone else used the machines without issue, yet she was on her fourth Weight Increasing Machine, and it still wasn't working.

The instructor fetched yet another Weight Increasing Machine from the cabinet and gestured for Yang Chuxia to try once more. This time, as soon as she hooked it up, the machine signaled that she was clear to start running.

Overjoyed, Yang Chuxia gave the instructor a respectful bow and dashed onto the track.

The instructor watched her run, his face a mix of emotions, as if he were on the verge of tears.

Yang Chuxia had assumed the Weight Increasing Machines were malfunctioning, but the instructor now knew that wasn't the case. The first machine he had given her from the cabinet had a minimum weight of 5 kilograms and a maximum of 30 kilograms, but it indicated that it wasn't suitable.

So, he switched to a machine with a minimum weight of 75 kilograms and a maximum of 100 kilograms. Once it was set up, it promptly allowed her to run. This meant that Yang Chuxia could carry at least 75 kilograms for a five-kilometer run. The instructor felt like he was on the brink of collapse!
