C16 Not Superpower
Yang Chuxia suddenly felt a chill in her heart, realizing she had been too naive. She looked at Sean and said calmly, "You came all this way to bring me food just to ask me this, didn't you?"
She knew it was a displaced anger, yet just moments before, she had thought of him as a friend. Now, he was telling her he had come to interrogate her. She couldn't help but feel angry.
Yang Chuxia laughed at herself mockingly. After all, he was General Edi's deputy, a major in the army. Why should he bother befriending a doctor who was, at best, expendable?
Sean realized she had misunderstood and sighed, "Listen, Dr. Yang, I'm here to help you, not to interrogate you. General Edi will be here soon, and I just want you to tell me the truth. That way, I can at least give you a heads-up on how to interact with him."
True to form, if she kept silent, he wouldn't even use her first name. Yang Chuxia sneered and responded coolly, "Thanks! Major Sean, I appreciate you personally delivering food for me. I'm tired and would like to rest now."
Sean shook his head, resigned, and said, "Alright, I'll leave you to it. General Edi will be here in about ten minutes to speak with you. Chuxia, I believe in you. I haven't been wrong about a person yet."
After Sean left, his words "I believe in you" lingered with Yang Chuxia, leaving a dangerous taste in her mouth. If they simply suspected her of having special abilities, at worst, she would be sent to a lab to be a Lab Rat. But Sean's belief in her suggested they suspected her identity, treating her as a spy. Realizing this, Yang Chuxia was frozen with shock. She didn't want to be a Lab Rat, but even more so, she didn't want to be labeled a spy.
She immediately regretted her impulsiveness in sending Sean away. Perhaps she could have confided in him, asked for his help, or at least extracted some information. It would have given her some peace of mind.
But with General Edi due to arrive in ten minutes, it was too late to call Sean back now.
Ten minutes later, General Edi arrived, his expression as stern and unyielding as ever. The moment the Confinement Room door swung open, Yang Chuxia could feel the overwhelming presence emanating from him.
His piercing gaze settled on Yang Chuxia as he spoke in a measured tone, "Dr. Yang, could you explain to me how you managed to run 60 kilometers with a 100-kilogram load? Are you going to tell me about some innate superhuman strength, or perhaps a unique ability you possess?"
Yang Chuxia bit her lip, uncertain of how to respond—she didn't even know how much weight she had been carrying.
Edi's stare intensified, and with a pressing tone, he continued, "Spare me any tales of innate superhuman strength. If that were the case, you wouldn't have suffered such a defeat yesterday. Unless, of course, you're concealing something that should not see the light of day, or are you suggesting you're unaware of the cause yourself?"
Standing at a towering 1.89 meters, Edi loomed over Yang Chuxia, his height alone imposing a formidable sense of intimidation.
Unaccustomed to such an interrogation, Yang Chuxia's initial fear gave way to indignation, igniting a boldness within her. She looked up at Edi and retorted loudly, "I'd like to know on what grounds you suspect me, General. Is it solely because I can carry a 100-kilogram load while running? What a preposterous reason! Could it be that you consider yourself unbeatable and cannot fathom someone outperforming you? Or perhaps, General, you harbor some indecent secrets of your own?"
Edi's brows knitted together as he regarded Yang Chuxia's flushed face, a mix of anger and fear. His voice was icy as he replied, "I'm questioning your true identity. I expect you to answer my questions candidly. If you're merely a recent university graduate, I'm intrigued to know where you acquired such skills and the source of your exceptional strength. Why did you join the new recruits' training? What exactly is your objective?"
Yang Chuxia's spirits deflated as she realized he suspected her of being a spy. Her luck seemed to have run out. If only she had known, she would have steered clear of the physical training that had inadvertently revealed her inner power.
After a moment of silence, she gathered her courage and addressed General Edi, "Since you suspect me, you'll surely investigate my true identity. Once you determine whether I am the real Yang Chuxia or an impostor, then you can question me again. Suspects have rights too, don't they?"
Edi was taken aback. She had seemed terrified at first, so where did this sudden burst of bravery come from?
With modern technology being so advanced, the results of Yang Chuxia's genetic test were on Edi's desk within half an hour.
Thus, there was no doubt that she was indeed Yang Chuxia. Now, Edi only needed to acquire Yang Chuxia's records from before she joined the Flying Eagle Combat Group!
He observed her trembling slightly with excitement, clad in black military trousers and a V-neck, form-fitting black T-shirt that hugged her figure. Just below her delicate and charming collarbone, a glimpse of her snowy white cleavage was visible.
"If you're not a spy, aren't you afraid of being sent to the lab? Don't you want my help?" Edi asked, almost inadvertently.
His words struck Yang Chuxia like a heavy blow to the chest. She faced Edi, her complexion pale, and insisted, "I don't have any superpowers, I truly don't!"
Edi regarded her with an impassive gaze. "Then how do you explain what happened on the runway?"
Yang Chuxia's expression seemed genuine, leading Edi to wonder if she truly was unaware of possessing any superpowers.
