C20 Treating as an Enemy
Sofia's expression momentarily froze, but she quickly regained her composure with a smile. "That's really unfortunate. Sorry to have bothered you," she said, nodding at Edi before turning to walk back to her original seat.
Yang Chuxia couldn't help but feel a sense of schadenfreude. She bowed her head to hide it, though the corners of her mouth betrayed her with a slight upward turn.
Catching this out of the corner of his eye, Edi pursed his lips and remarked, "Ordering so much food... If you eat too much now, it'll be uncomfortable during the fight later."
Looking up at him, Yang Chuxia quipped, "How am I to know if this won't be my last meal? It'd be a real shame not to enjoy it!"
Despite knowing she was joking, Edi felt a twinge of discomfort and responded icily, "Is it that you lack confidence in yourself, or is it me you doubt?"
Confounded by his erratic mood, Yang Chuxia silently fiddled with the tablecloth, choosing to remain silent.
The tension only lifted when Sean arrived with their meal.
While eating, Edi instructed Sean, "Later, go clear out the Fighting Field. Just say it's for maintenance."
Sean paused, his gaze flickering towards Yang Chuxia, eyes brimming with silent inquiry. She gave him an almost imperceptible nod.
"Got it," Sean grunted. "Anything else?" he inquired, wondering if he should summon the medical team.
Yang Chuxia shot him a look, her frustration mounting as she recalled the constant mishaps since she'd met Edi.
Edi, catching her gaze, said decisively, "Yes, call them."
Sean nodded, casting a sympathetic glance at Yang Chuxia before departing to clear the Fighting Field.
After lunch, Edi turned to Yang Chuxia and suggested, "We've just eaten. How about a walk to help digest?"
Yang Chuxia's attention was drawn to Sofia, who was glaring daggers at her from a short distance away. It was clear to her that Sofia harbored feelings for Edi and had misinterpreted her own interactions with him.
With her slightly mischievous nature, Yang Chuxia couldn't resist the urge to stir the pot. She stood up and proposed to Edi, "General, would you care to join me for a walk outside?"
Edi looked up, surprised, only to see Yang Chuxia's eyes darting towards Sofia, her face puffed up with annoyance. Amused by her antics, he chuckled and rose to his feet. "Let's go. We'll check out how Sean is doing with clearing the field."
Walking confidently behind General Edi, Yang Chuxia couldn't resist turning back to give Sofia a defiant chin-up.
Sofia was livid, her face turning a shade of green as she nearly snapped her knife and fork in frustration.
As Edi and Chuxia exited the dining hall and made their way toward the Fighting Field, he remarked, "Sofia is the captain of the Mecha Team. She's quite skilled—ranked in the top ten among eight hundred light Mecha Soldiers."
Chuxia was startled, patting her chest as she said, "General, are you warning me that I've made a formidable enemy?"
Unable to see the amused smile playing on Edi's lips, Chuxia pressed him anxiously, "General, I've made this enemy because of you! You can't just leave me to fend for myself!"
Edi responded with a light tone, "You're a doctor, and she's an officer. Surely she wouldn't dare to break the law and challenge you?"
Chuxia's anxiety peaked, and she retorted without thinking, "Why wouldn't she? Even a general like you would break the law to challenge me, let alone her!"
Edi came to an abrupt halt, and with a thud, Chuxia once again collided with his back, exclaiming, "Ouch!"
Edi, both amused and exasperated, asked, "Don't you watch where you're going? How could you run into someone as big as me?"
This time, Chuxia didn't hit her nose, but her smooth, pale forehead was now sporting a large red mark. She complained, feeling wronged, "Why do you always stop so suddenly? With no warning at all, it's only natural I'd run into you."
She resolved then and there that once this was over, she'd keep her distance from him. It was essential to steer clear—otherwise, she might risk more than just a bump next time.
Curious onlookers nearby were watching Chuxia and Edi, their interest piqued. Many had heard about Sean clearing the Fighting Field, and now, seeing Edi and Chuxia there, they were speculating whether another confrontation was brewing.
Chuxia seemed so childlike to Edi that he instinctively reached out to comfort her.
Quickly tilting her head back, Chuxia's face flushed as she whispered, "General! We're being watched by so many!" Internally, she vowed, "I don't want to make enemies everywhere just because of you!"
Edi abruptly snapped back to reality, withdrawing his hand and turning on his heel to stride toward the Fighting Field with an icy expression.
Yang Chuxia felt a chill run through her as she was hit by the wave of coldness he emitted! Silently, she followed him into the Fighting Field.
Sean was in the midst of clearing the area and was taken aback by their early arrival. He hurriedly said, "General, just another ten minutes, please!"
The new recruits were filing out of the Fighting Field when they noticed Edi's entrance. They all saluted and greeted him in unison!
Edi acknowledged them with a military salute and continued into the Fighting Field. The soldiers' eyes then shifted to Yang Chuxia, igniting a blaze of curiosity. They speculated, "Is the General's adjutant clearing the area so that Dr. Yang and General Edi can have the Fighting Field to themselves?"
Yag spotted Yang Chuxia approaching and greeted her cheerfully, "Good morning, Dr. Yang!"
She returned the smile and nodded, "Hello, Yag!"
Surprised, Yag's eyes widened as he asked, "You know my name?"
From the corner of her eye, Yang Chuxia noticed Edi had already settled in a corner of the Fighting Field, watching her with a frosty gaze. She hastily whispered, "Sorry! Yag, let's chat another time."
In a low voice, Yag called out, "Hey, hey! Are you about to spar with the General?"
Without responding, Yang Chuxia made a beeline for Edi. She feared that if she delayed any longer, the icy aura emanating from Edi might very well freeze her on the spot.
Yag continued to watch Yang Chuxia, waiting for an answer, but Sean courteously ushered her out.
