C28 Saved

Sean couldn't help but chuckle as he straightened up and released her. His golden eyes radiated profound tenderness. In a soft voice, he teased, "Hi there, little beauty. Please forgive my forwardness! If it bothers you, perhaps you'd consider marrying me, so I can spend a lifetime in turmoil over you."

Yang Chuxia let out a genuine laugh and responded, "Wouldn't that mean I'd be at an even greater loss?"

With a hint of reluctance, Sean kissed her forehead and said, "I'll step outside and keep watch for the Rescue Team."

Yang Chuxia gave a nod and a playful blink. "Go on!"

Once Sean had exited the medical room, Yang Chuxia's attention turned to Edi's face. His complexion was pale, but there was a noticeable improvement.

She moistened a cotton swab and gently dabbed it on Edi's chapped lips. His lips weren't really thin; it was likely his stern and unyielding nature, often pressing his lips together tightly, that made them appear so, lending him a somewhat austere air.

Perhaps it was the knowledge that the Rescue Team would arrive in ten minutes that allowed Yang Chuxia to finally relax, and she suddenly realized how urgently she needed to use the restroom—something she hadn't noticed in her earlier state of tension.

After Edi's heartbeat had stabilized for over twenty minutes, Yang Chuxia ceased the flow of her healing energy and decided to make a quick bathroom trip. As she began to disentangle her fingers from Edi's, his hand suddenly clasped hers again.

Startled, Yang Chuxia turned to look, only to find that Edi's eyes remained closed. It seemed he had instinctively tightened his grip on her hand.

Gently, Yang Chuxia attempted to pry his fingers open. Just as she managed to loosen the first one, she heard Edi's raspy, deep voice murmur, "Yang Chuxia..."

Edi's eyes fluttered open, meeting hers with a gaze as tranquil as still water, his facial expression softened with a hint of vulnerability, perhaps due to his injuries.

"You're awake! General, how are you feeling? Is there any discomfort?" Yang Chuxia asked, her voice filled with relief.

A slight smile curved Edi's lips, and a glimmer of amusement twinkled in his eyes as he replied softly, "I'm alright, no discomfort at the moment."

"Good to hear!" Yang Chuxia, now desperate, extracted her hand from Edi's grasp. But Edi, with swift reflexes, caught her hand once more, his brow furrowed as he looked at her.

Yang Chuxia was on the verge of tears, her voice tinged with desperation as she pleaded, "General, even if you want me to hold your hand, you've got to let me use the restroom first! I'm about to burst here!"

In the midst of speaking, she felt a trickle escape and could no longer wait for Edi's consent. She withdrew her hand and dashed out in a frenzy.

Edi watched her departing figure with a mix of amusement and disbelief.

After emerging from the restroom, Yang Chuxia breathed a long sigh of relief, finally feeling at ease. She strode out confidently.

Sean was in the process of opening the battleship door when two paramedics in space suits entered from outside.

Upon seeing Yang Chuxia, Sean said with ease, "It's our Rescue Team! Chuxia, we're saved!" He stood up from the pilot's seat and approached her with open arms.

Yang Chuxia smiled and stepped forward into his embrace, holding him close.

One of the paramedics, clad in a space suit, addressed them, "Hehe! Sir and Ma'am, let's pause the affection for a moment. How's General Edi doing?"

Yang Chuxia's face flushed, and she quickly released her hold.

Sean released her as well, smiling, then turned to the paramedics and said, "This is Sergeant Yang Chuxia, the military doctor from the Flying Eagle Combat Group. She's the one who treated the General in his critical time."

The space-suited paramedics nodded at Yang Chuxia, saying, "We'll transport the General back to the Medical Cabin on the Mothership first. We'll catch up later!"

Yang Chuxia nodded and guided them to Edi, explaining, "The General has just undergone surgery and can't be moved right now. He's unable to put on a space suit, so it looks like we'll have to dock this battleship with the Mothership."

They followed Yang Chuxia into the medical room and surveyed Edi, who was resting on a small bed.

One of them nodded and said, "Then let's pilot the battleship to the Mothership and transfer the General to the Medical Cabin. Dr. Yang, please stay here with the General. We'll step outside; it's quite cramped in here."

The two medical personnel exited, while Sean powered up the battleship and set a course for the nearby Mothership.

Yang Chuxia sat by the side of Edi's bed, his hand gripping hers as it rested on the bed's edge, his deep blue eyes glistening as they fixed on her.

Yang Chuxia spoke in a gentle tone, "How are you feeling? Is there any discomfort?"

Edi blinked and offered a silent, crooked smile.

In that moment, Yang Chuxia saw the battle-hardened, renowned general as nothing more than a big kid.

Her heart melted with tenderness as she whispered, "I'm relieved you're alright. If anything were to happen, Sean and I might just have to join you in heaven."

Edi's expression soured. He gripped Yang Chuxia's hand even tighter, fighting back his discomfort, and rasped, "Don't entertain such thoughts!"

Not wanting to add to his worries, Yang Chuxia bent down and gently kissed his forehead, offering a soft smile. "Okay, no more wild thoughts. Once you're on your feet, we'll dance together."

Despite knowing Yang Chuxia's tenderness stemmed from his current vulnerability, Edi couldn't help but bask in the sweetness of the moment.

Yang Chuxia wasn't being fanciful. If Edi were to succumb to his injuries, Sean would be plagued with guilt for life. Yet, performing major surgery on Edi in such dire conditions was a breach of the Alliance Army's medical regulations.

Even if the patient had been a mere soldier, Yang Chuxia could have faced a lifetime behind bars, let alone for Edi, a general celebrated for his valor. Nevertheless, Yang Chuxia had taken the risk to save him without a second thought.

Any other military doctor would have provided only basic first aid and waited for the Rescue Team. But that could have meant Edi wouldn't survive the wait.

As a physician, Yang Chuxia couldn't stand idly by when she knew there was a chance to save a life, especially out of fear for military repercussions. As a military doctor, she couldn't let a general die on her watch.

Edi was well aware of the risks Yang Chuxia had taken to save him. The woman before him was not only resilient but also decisive and confident.

Her confidence was such that, alongside Sean, a layman in medical matters, she dared to perform surgery in this humble room, lacking many essential medical supplies, and yet, she managed to save his life.

Her surgical prowess was impressive, but it was likely the profound martial arts she had been mastering since childhood that instilled such confidence in her.

Edi couldn't fathom how someone of her petite stature could possess so many admirable qualities. Yang Chuxia was the first woman to truly astonish him!

She was also the first whose hand he found himself unwilling to release. Recalling her hurried dash to the restroom earlier brought an involuntary smile to his face.

Upon boarding the Mothership, several medics with a Medical Robot transferred Edi to the Medical Room and settled him into the Healing Chamber.
