C32 Alright!
Edi's gaze grew colder as he asked, "Dr. Yang, are you suggesting that you want to live with him?"
A shiver ran down Yang Chuxia's spine from the coldness emanating from Edi. She found his mercurial moods quite unsettling. After a brief silence, she spoke up, "General! Considering my position, it would be more appropriate for my accommodations to be a notch below Vice-Platoon Leader Sean's. Living with the general would be highly improper."
"You're overthinking it, Dr. Yang," Edi replied. "I don't reside here. I'll be going home. Of course, if you'd prefer I stay with you, I wouldn't object."
The first part of Edi's statement took Yang Chuxia by surprise, but the latter half left her feeling mortified!
Clearing her throat, Yang Chuxia responded calmly, "General, you're the one overthinking. I have absolutely no interest in cohabitating with an iceberg!"
"So you'd rather live with a volcano?" Edi quirked an eyebrow.
Now truly irritated, Yang Chuxia retorted, "General, you're deliberately twisting my words!"
Edi's lips quirked into a smirk. "Is Sean the volcano? Hmm..."
Realizing that Edi was intentionally mocking her, Yang Chuxia shot him a glare. Her black and white eyes, brimming with innocence, lacked any real threat. Instead, they lent her an alluring and captivating appearance.
Edi's eyes darkened, his voice deepening as he pressed, "Yang Chuxia, you still haven't answered my question. Is Sean the 'volcano' you're referring to?"
With her arms crossed and chin held high, Yang Chuxia strode into the living room, declaring, "I haven't had the experience yet. I'll let you know if he's a volcano after I find out."
Edi stepped in front of her in one long stride, a flicker of fire in his eyes as he towered over her and demanded coldly, "Dr. Yang, would you like me to arrange for Sean to keep you company? I'm afraid your phone can only be reissued by the Flying Eagle Combat Group."
Yang Chuxia's phone had been left behind on Edi's battleship, now nothing more than cosmic dust.
She hadn't anticipated Edi paying attention to such a detail. His inexplicable anger was exasperating. She realized he always seemed to be at odds with her, constantly picking at her. Exasperated, she snapped, "That's my personal business, General. Your concern is unwarranted."
Edi's face was dark as he stared at Yang Chuxia, silent and brooding.
Just when Chuxia thought he might tell her to leave...
Without warning, Edi turned and strode into the living room. He unbuttoned his military jacket and hung it neatly on a rack. Approaching the liquor cabinet, he pulled out a bottle of white wine, unscrewed the cap, and took several hearty swigs before settling down on the sofa.
Chuxia was baffled by his behavior, silently wishing he would simply drink and depart.
But Edi showed no signs of leaving. Instead, he grabbed the remote control from the coffee table and switched on the TV. Kicking off his shoes, he propped his feet up and leaned back, sipping his drink and watching the screen, oblivious to Chuxia's presence.
After a lengthy pause, Chuxia mustered the courage to inquire, "General, where is my room?"
"First room on the second floor," Edi replied without shifting his gaze from the television, casually loosening his shirt collar.
Left with no other option, Chuxia ascended to the second floor.
She opened the door to the first room, revealing a large bed and a row of built-in wardrobes along the wall. The bathroom was immediately to the left of the entrance, its decor as simple and unadorned as the rest of the house.
Having not bathed in over a day, Chuxia eagerly entered the bathroom.
Inside the storage cabinet, she found a fresh, clean towel. She tested the tap with the red marker and was relieved to find hot water.
Chuxia stripped off her clothes and tossed them into the washing machine, which began to clean them automatically as soon as she closed the lid.
After brushing her teeth at the vanity, it dawned on her that she had no change of clothes, leaving her momentarily stunned.
Naked and unsure, she stood frozen for a minute before deciding to shower first. After all, the washing machine wasn't going to devour her clothes.
Typically, the Intelligence System would return the laundered and dried clothes to the wardrobe. Since she had no plans to leave her room, Chuxia figured she could simply go to bed after her shower.
After her shower, Yang Chuxia approached the wardrobe, hoping to find some pajamas. Upon opening it, she was surprised to find it brimming with men's clothing—a full cabinet's worth, all seemingly belonging to Edi, judging by the size.
Struck with the realization, Yang Chuxia felt a jolt of shock. This meant the room was Edi's, not the guest room she had assumed it to be. Clad only in a large bath towel, a chill swept through her at the thought.
The idea of having lain naked on Edi's bed made her feel as if she had inadvertently crossed a boundary of intimacy. She reluctantly chose a white shirt that appeared brand new and unworn. In hindsight, she should have checked the wardrobe first.
With Edi's tall and broad build and her own petite frame, wearing his shirt made her look like a child playing dress-up in oversized clothes. The hem reached past her knees, and the sleeves could be flapped around like theatrical costume pieces. The shirt was so roomy it could have fit two of her with ease.
Despite no risk of exposure, the emptiness under the shirt made Yang Chuxia acutely aware of a draft that seemed to whistle through her lower body. Shivering, she hurried to blow-dry her hair to a damp state before leaping into bed and snuggling under the covers.
The bed was perfectly firm yet soft, and the thin blanket was gentle to the touch. Although she knew Edi likely spent only a handful of days here throughout the year, Yang Chuxia couldn't shake off the sense that the bedding was imbued with his scent.
Lying in his bed, under his blanket, she was vividly reminded of the day on the Fighting Platform when he had deliberately pulled her into his embrace and pinned her beneath him. The potent mix of his masculine scent and sweat was heady, sending her senses reeling.
Yang Chuxia groaned, tossing and turning in the bed, scolding herself, "Yang Chuxia, you're such a wanton woman. He was only playing with you, and here you are, getting carried away. Sleep now, no more wild thoughts, or you'll overflow with spring fever, you shameless thing!"
Yet the more she forbade herself from thinking, the more her mind wandered. She recalled the electrifying tingle when Edi's lips grazed her ear, and the shameful desire to sink her teeth into his Adam's apple when he had her pinned down.
Memories of Edi gripping her hand tightly, refusing to let go, swirled in her mind. Then she recalled how he had swept her up and dashed across the surface of Planet Niya, his stride wild and unrestrained. She remembered the soothing timbre of his voice, telling her not to be afraid, and the moment she had stumbled into his embrace, her nose bleeding profusely...
Restlessly, she flipped back and forth in bed, sleep eluding her. Yang Chuxia was on the verge of madness, her adrenaline surging uncontrollably! Clutching her head, she let out a piercing scream.
