C50 Girl Hero Dream
"Scared again, huh? Very well! Then tell me, what exactly are you afraid of? Are you afraid I'm acting on a whim? Afraid of being ridiculed and laughed at by others? Afraid that the one you fancy will see you with me? Or are you afraid that you simply can't fall in love with me?" Edi's eyes blazed with an intense fire.
Such a firecracker temper! Yang Chuxia lamented internally, realizing that this couldn't go on. After a moment's thought, she calmly explained, "General, I've considered all the concerns you've mentioned.
But you can't just force me to follow your desires because you like me. You must give me some time to adjust, right? Our relationship has developed so rapidly that I haven't had time to process it!
To this day, I'm still unclear about why we're together. Is it love or just a spur-of-the-moment thing? General, have you considered it? If one day we part ways, it might not matter to you, but how will others treat me?"
Edi was taken aback! He had never pondered this issue. Being adored by many women, he had come to assume that if he liked someone, they should naturally reciprocate.
He hadn't considered that Yang Chuxia was not like those women who threw themselves at him, aspiring to be the General's wife. And their relationship had indeed progressed too swiftly!
So when confronted with his abrupt affections, Yang Chuxia's response was not one of passion but rather one of uncertainty and awkwardness.
As Edi regained his composure, the fury in his eyes slowly dissipated. With a stoic expression, he remarked, "Women are so melodramatic!" After a brief pause, he added, "I'll give you the time you need to adapt, but I just don't understand. Weren't you the one who seduced me first?"
Yang Chuxia felt a wave of anger, her vision momentarily darkening as she glared at Edi. Despite it being a beautiful misunderstanding, she couldn't deny that there was a hint of truth to his accusation of her initiating the flirtation, which left her feeling utterly deflated.
In her silence, Edi had already ordered their meal.
Hearing that he had chosen Chinese cuisine, Yang Chuxia felt both moved and a touch proud. She couldn't help but wonder if perhaps the universe, seeing all the hardships she had endured, had bestowed General Edi upon her as compensation for past grievances.
Yang Chuxia cleared her throat and cautiously began, "General Edi, about the incident where I supposedly seduced you, it was completely unintentional..." As soon as the words left her mouth, Yang Chuxia nearly bit her tongue. Her face flushed a deep shade of red!
Edi nodded, his expression unchanging, and replied, "I'm aware. It wasn't a long-standing plot to seduce me. It was an accidental impulse, nothing more."
For the first time, Yang Chuxia felt a pang of concern for her own intelligence. Though she had been worried about it for quite some time, she hadn't realized it until now.
With two classes scheduled for the afternoon, Yang Chuxia felt she had already squandered three and a half days. Determined not to waste any more time, she resolved to attend her classes.
After sharing lunch with Edi, she returned to her dormitory, enveloped by a comforting sense of familiarity she hadn't felt in ages. She lay on her bed and called out to check the afternoon's lesson schedule. After a brief rest, she rose to gather the necessary materials and then made her way to the Medical Department.
The Medical Department consisted of a large room split in two, with the Medical Cabin situated at the back. The left wall was lined with various instruments and medications. To the right of the entrance were three desks where Yang Chuxia and two nurses conducted their duties.
Adjacent to the office desks was a bed for medical personnel to use during night shifts. Typically, it remained unoccupied unless there was a patient requiring overnight care. Otherwise, the night shift was managed by treatment robots.
The adjacent room housed nine Intelligence Robots on standby, ready for deployment at a moment's notice. With the Flying Eagle Combat Group being a Special Forces unit of nearly ten thousand members, nine robots didn't seem excessive. However, with additional Medical Cabins on both the Mothership and warships, the resources were deemed sufficient.
Upon entering the office, Yang Chuxia was greeted by Janice, who was on duty. Janice embraced her warmly and asked with a smile, "I heard you got back late last night after a tough trip to the Main Base with General Edi. Why didn't you stay and enjoy yourself a few more days before returning?"
Yang Chuxia gave a wry smile and responded, "Haven't you seen the news? I needed to get as far away as possible. How could I even think of staying longer? I was lucky to escape with my life."
Janice shrugged and gave Yang Chuxia a sympathetic shake of her head. “Dr. Yang, you have the worst luck! You've been injured twice in just three days. And just when you finally get to accompany the heartthrob to the anniversary celebration, you end up in the middle of a terrorist attack.”
Yang Chuxia nodded in agreement. “I can't help it. It seems my luck took a nosedive ever since I got involved with your heartthrob!”
Janice giggled, her hand covering her mouth. “Be careful! If General Edi hears you talking like that, he might just drag you into the ring for another round.”
Yang Chuxia feigned terror. “You wouldn't snitch to the General, would you?”
Janice grinned mischievously. “You know, I could use this to curry favor with General Edi. Maybe even score an autograph.”
Another Edi fan, Yang Chuxia mused. His charm really did cast a wide net! She wondered if she should seek a clandestine relationship with Edi for the sake of her personal safety.
Settling into her office chair, Yang Chuxia asked offhandedly, "Anything new happen these last few days?"
“Oh, yes! We received an invitation from the Main Base for a specialist ophthalmologist.”
Yang Chuxia paused, puzzled. “What does that mean?”
Janice leaned in, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "You're out of the loop? The Supreme Commander of the Alliance, Nesil Cheriman, has damaged his eyes. Despite several treatments in the Medical Cabin, there's been no improvement. His vision started blurring, and now it's getting worse by the day!"
"Almost every Medical Department in the Alliance Army has received this invitation. It seems they've called on every doctor in the Alliance. If his eyesight doesn't improve, the Supreme Commander's position could be in jeopardy."
Yang Chuxia frowned. “Are there still illnesses the Medical Cabin can't heal?”
Janice shook her head. “Don't ask me; I'm just a nurse, not a full-fledged doctor. Why don't you check our public mailbox for yourself?”
Yang Chuxia chuckled. “I'm a surgeon, not an ENT specialist!” But despite her words, she logged into the mailbox and began reading the letter.
According to the letter, Admiral Nesil Cheriman was blinded by a laser gun shot directly in front of his eyes, followed by a blow to the head from a heavy object. The treatments in the medical cabin have been less than ideal!
Both the first and second treatments showed effectiveness within four hours, but thereafter, his vision began to deteriorate. The third time he entered the Healing Chamber, the results were even less promising. Currently, the cause remains elusive, as damage to the cornea, lens, vitreous body, retina, sclera, choroid, and optic nerve has been ruled out.
Yang Chuxia found herself curious about the cause of Admiral Nesil Cheriman's blindness.
