C9 He Was Avoiding Everyone

"Ah!" Yang Chuxia let out a groan of frustration. Even the Intelligence System seemed to think she was pursuing Sean. Sean, Edi, and another officer must have gotten the wrong idea too!

Yang Chuxia felt the need to take a moment to herself and decide whether she should even attend the new recruit training the next day. What if she ran into Sean and Edi? The mere thought filled her with embarrassment.

She spent the entire afternoon dwelling on the incident, only venturing out at dinner time.

When you're down on your luck, it seems even drinking water can go wrong! As luck would have it, she ran into Sean, who was escorting Edi to dinner, right outside the restaurant in the greenery.

Sean caught sight of her and, with a flushed face, ducked behind a corridor pillar, trying to hide Yang Chuxia's discomfort. He suddenly found the young woman rather endearing.

Edi, noticing Sean's abrupt halt, followed his gaze and his expression cooled. He was convinced she was after Sean and felt she deserved punishment.

Out of politeness, Sean steeled himself and told Edi, "I'll be right back." He needed to inform her that the money had been transferred.

Edi nodded indifferently, hoping he wouldn't discover she was a spy, or else... With that, she headed for the restaurant.

As Sean approached, Yang Chuxia's embarrassment intensified, her face burning as bright as the twilight sky. She stuttered, "Major Sean!"

With Edi gone, Sean's tension eased. He watched Yang Chuxia's awkwardness with amusement and cleared his throat before speaking, "Dr. Yang, I received your payment earlier. I've been tied up, so I couldn't respond right away."

Yang Chuxia, mortified, replied, "Oh, I wasn't aware that payment could be made by scanning the Identity Imprint. I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience!"

Sean's eyebrows lifted slightly as he regarded the charming young woman, wondering to himself if she was subtly indicating her lack of interest in him.

With a gentlemanly smile, Sean reassured her, "No worries, Dr. Yang. It's perfectly normal not to know everything when you're new to the force. I had my share of blunders when I first enlisted!"

Hearing Sean admit to his own past mistakes, Yang Chuxia finally mustered the courage to meet his gaze.

Sean's eyes, sparkling with a momentary daze, quickly regained focus as he smiled and said, "I still need to join the general for dinner. Let's catch up another time!"

Eager for Sean to vanish from her presence, Yang Chuxia nodded hastily, "Sure! Go ahead." Realizing her eagerness was too apparent, she quickly added, "Actually, I'm quite hungry myself. I should head over for dinner, too."

Sean looked at her, surprised. Standing at just 1.60 meters and weighing barely 45 kilograms, she seemed almost childlike within the Flying Eagle base. Could she really eat that much?

Feeling uneasy under Sean's gaze, Yang Chuxia mustered her courage and asked, "Colonel Sean! Is there anything else?"

Snapping out of it, Sean replied, "No, nothing else. I'll be off then." As he walked away, he mumbled, "I can't believe it. After eating so much this afternoon, you're hungry again so soon?"

Yang Chuxia, whose hearing was sharper than most, caught every word Sean thought he had whispered to himself.

The blush that had just faded from Yang Chuxia's cheeks returned. She bit her lip, debating, "Maybe I won't go to the restaurant. I could head back to the treatment department and have the robot prepare a meal for me..."

Lin Yin, approaching from behind, saw her flushed face and exclaimed, "Oh! Dr. Yang, do you have a fever?"

Quickly shaking her head, Yang Chuxia responded, "No, I'm fine. I just saw General Edi go into the restaurant. Lin Yin, could you get a meal for me and bring it to my office? I'd rather not go in there."

Lin Yin's expression turned solemn as she nodded, "Of course, I'll bring a meal to you shortly. You go on ahead and wait for me."

Yang Chuxia knew Lin Yin must have misunderstood that she hadn't reconciled with Edi and was planning to lodge a complaint. Preferring not to explain, she quickly expressed her gratitude to Lin Yin and headed for the treatment department.

Lin Meng walked into the restaurant and glanced at the Senior Officer's dining area. She hesitated, then decided against it, knowing Dr. Yang wasn't keen on accepting General Edi's hospitality. She chose to find a seat and order for herself, planning to pack an extra meal for Yang Chuxia later.

As if he sensed her arrival, Sean emerged from the Senior Officer's dining hall and made a beeline for her.

Lin Meng quickly rose to her feet and greeted him, "Colonel Sean!"

With a smile and a nod, Sean spoke gently, "The general has summoned you. I'll order you a meal in the officers' mess later. No need to wait here."

Lin Yin nodded and trailed behind Sean into the Senior Officer's dining hall.

General Edi sat at the table, his towering presence standing out among the dining officers. His sharply defined features were striking, and the formidable aura of a soldier emanated from him.

Entering the dining hall, Lin Yin couldn't shake off her nerves. She bowed her head and followed Sean to Edi's table, murmuring, "General Edi..."

Edi responded coolly, "Hasn't Dr. Yang eaten?"

Lin Yin's expression tensed. She quickly looked down and explained, "I took the lunch box to the treatment room. Dr. Yang had a few bites, then said she was tired and wanted to rest, so she left."

Edi's icy gaze settled on Lin Meng's face. "Tired after leaving the Medical Cabin without a full recovery?"

Lin Meng was no fool; she understood that Edi wasn't truly doubting the Medical Cabin's capabilities but was rather inquiring about the cause of Yang Chuxia's 'tiredness.'

Gathering her courage, she replied, "No, Dr. Yang is healed. It's just that I asked her if she intended to file a complaint against the general. She lost her appetite upon hearing that and excused herself, claiming she felt unwell."

After speaking, she sneaked a glance at Edi's reaction, anxious he might become irate.

Edi remained impassive, giving a slight nod before inquiring, "Did Sean mention that Dr. Yang had come to eat earlier?"
