C8 EIGHT

Toluwanimi sat down as they got ready for their first class. It was supposed to be an introductory class so the lecture theatre was filled up. Her eyes remained fixed on the phone and she didn’t even notice when someone sat beside her.

She fixed one of her ear pods inside one of her ears as she watched a movie on her phone. She soon noticed people looking at her direction and Tolu frowned slightly.

She took a look at herself and discovered she wasn’t doing anything outrageous nor did she look weird or anything but why were everyone looking at her?

It took a while for Tolu to realise it wasn’t her almost everyone was looking at but someone around her. She turned and her eyes widened in surprise upon seeing Lashe. The latter gave her a small smile and Tolu smiled as well.

“You are Lashe bah?” Tolu asked and Lashe chuckled.

“I was still grateful I sat down beside someone who didn’t know me” Lashe replied and Tolu chuckled.

“Are you sure there’s somewhere you’ll get to in Nigeria and no one would know or recognise you?” Tolu asked and Lashe laughed a little showing off his dentals.

“Who knows?” Lashe said with a shrug.

“I’m not your fan though, my younger sister is. She’s crazy about you” Tolu said and Lashe laughed.

“Oh my” Lashe said with a smile.

“We actually had to keep watch while she sneaked out of the house to attend your concerts or stage performance liked she called them” Tolu said and Lashe’s eyes widened in surprise.

“Really?” Lashe asked and Toluwanimi chuckled.

‘Don’t even get me started” Tolu said and Lashe chuckled before his lips broke into smile.

“That’s…...I don’t know” Lashe said and Tolu snickered.

“I don’t want to embarrass her that’s why. What I told you is just a tip of the iceberg. She has at least six portraits of you in her room” Tolu revealed and Lashe’s mouth dropped slightly.

“Wow” Lashe breathed. He knew a lot of crazy fans and he had seen videos of fans competing of who had the most merch and all but hearing it with his own ears was rather making him smile and feel happy.

“I don’t know your name yet” Lashe suddenly said and Tolu smiled.

“Oh, Ola-Amuda Toluwanimi” Tolu said and Lashe smiled.

“Nice to meet you Nimi” Lashe said and Tolu chuckled.

“Nimi? Everyone calls me Tolu though” Tolu said and Lashe nodded.

“Tolu is it then” Lashe said and Tolu chuckled.

“No worries. Because of my sister, I’ll let you call me Nimi” Tolu said and Lashe chuckled.

“I think I need to meet this sister of yours. I owe her” Lashe said and Tolu laughed.

Ibukun walked into the house and found it empty. Nifemi had returned back to school and Tosinmile was out. Of course, Toluwanmi was in school. Ibukun walked straight to her room and peeled off her uniform.

She plopped on her bed and brought out her phone, she replied the texts from some of her friends and sighed. The house was becoming more boring since just she and Tosinmile remained.

Her phone suddenly rang and Ibukun quickly picked it seeing it was her mom. She pressed the phone to her ears immediately.

“Hello ma” Ibukun said the phone she heard her mom’s voice.

“Are you at home already?” her mom asked.

“Yes ma”

“Tolu asked me to get her a few things. I packed it into a bag and it’s beside my mirror in my room. Take it and go and give her in her school. Don’t take too long o” her mom said and Ibukun nodded.

‘Yes mom” Ibukun said and her mom hung up.

Ibukun laughed as she got up from the bed “Since when has she resumed that she keeps asking for things” Ibukun said as she changed into another top and wore one of her fancy sandals.

She slipped her phone into her pockets as she walked towards her mom’s room. She unlocked the door and like her mom said.; there was bag beside the standing mirror. She carried it and walked downstairs. She got out of the house, locked the door and put the key in the usual place.

Getting a bike to DUL wasn’t a big deal so she got a bike the moment she got to the junction. Ibukun dialled Tolu’s number as soon as she walked into the gates of the school.

“Mommy said you are bringing my stuff, where are you?” Tolu asked.

“I just entered your school. Where are you?” Ibukun asked.

“Do you know the lecture theatre near the Faculty of Chemistry?” Tolu asked as Ibukun searched through her memory. De Royal’s had brought them twice to DUL for some kind of science excursion so Ibukun still remembered a few places.

“I think I know here the Faculty of Chemistry is but I don’t know where the lecture hall is” Ibukun replied.

“When you get to Faculty of Chemistry, you’ll see the lecture hall” Tolu said.

“Okay, I’ll be there” Ibukun said as she hung up. She boarded a taxi immediately as taxis and bus were used for transportation in DUL, bikes weren’t allowed.

Ibukun got down at a huge building, boldly written on the top was FACULTY OF CHEMISTRY, DUL. Ibukun looked around for any lecture hall as soon spotted one as the students walked in and out of the hall.

Using the back door, she walked inside and sighed as she tried to look for Tolu. It was futile seeing the number of students in the hall. She decided to call her.

“I’m at the back door of the lecture hall, where are you?” Ibukun asked.

“I’m waving my hands; can you see me?” Tolu asked and Ibukun looked around and spotted Tolu and wore a smile.

“I can see you” Ibukun replied and hung up.
