C4 His Ex-girlfriend, His Current Girlfriend!

The first floor of the supermarket was pitch black, but the second floor was surprisingly well-lit.

Everyone was ecstatic to find that there were still people inside the supermarket. It was a mind-blowing revelation.

When the group reached the second floor, they discovered that at least a hundred people were there. It looked like they had been living there for quite some time.

The crowd upstairs was equally shocked and pleased to see the newcomers. They couldn't believe there were still survivors outside.

The second-floor residents included many teachers and students from the local university and even some classmates from Haihe University.

People rushed to share little information about the past year. It turned out that everyone was equally in the dark, only aware of their immediate surroundings.

Suddenly, an eerie laughter filled the air.

A group of young men and women dressed in flashy clothes approached.

"Well, well, isn't this the sickly one? How are you still alive?" The voice belonged to Ma Junsheng, a wealthy kid Hsu Yuvran recognized.

Hsu Yuvran was shocked. He wondered why he kept running into this guy. Clinging to Ma Junsheng's arm was Xu Xin, Hsu Yuvran's ex-girlfriend.

Xu Xin was equally stunned. "I thought you were long dead," she remarked.

Disinterested in the couple's provocations, Hsu Yuvran turned away to assess the environment.

His history with Xu Xin wasn't particularly remarkable. She was just a girl from Qin Capital who had been attracted to his good looks.

Unfortunately, his chronic illness and humble background couldn't meet Xu Xin's desire for a high-maintenance lifestyle. Good looks couldn't put food on the table.

After they broke up, Xu Xin quickly found herself a new man—Ma Junsheng, who was both wealthy and well-connected.

"Hey, I'm talking to you!" An infuriated Ma Junsheng interrupted Hsu Yuvran's thoughts.

"Click!" Before he knew it, a pistol was pressed against Hsu Yuvran's forehead.

"Click, click, click …" Several young men accompanying Ma Junsheng drew pistols, aiming at Hsu Yuvran and his companions.

Those who had just entered were taken aback. The more timid among them felt their legs trembling in fear.

The stringent gun control laws of the Great Qin Dynasty made Hsu Yuvran wonder where these people had acquired their firearms.

Hsu Yuvran was caught off guard for a moment. He slowly turned to face the gun aimed at him and gritted out, "Ma... Jun... Sheng!"

Not too far away, Dongfang Bai was quick to react. She took a step forward, only to find another gun aimed directly at her forehead.

"Click!" "Click!" The air filled with the distinctive sound of safeties being clicked off. Ma Junsheng's henchmen aimed their guns at everyone, their eyes filled with pure menace.

At that moment, Hsu Yuvran understood how they'd managed to survive in the supermarket.

It made sense; the supermarket was stocked with food and supplies, and they had the firepower to fend off Mutated Beasts. They had everything they needed to stay alive.

Dongfang Bai shouted sternly, "Where did you get those guns?"

Hearing her question, Ma Junsheng smirked, "My family is wealthy; we imported these from abroad. How about staying with me, beautiful? I can keep you safe."

Ma Junsheng had a reputation for being a spoiled rich kid who targeted and harassed female students in the university town. He had always set his sights on school beauties from various institutions.

Frustrated, Dongfang Bai shot back, "Put down your gun! You could be protecting people with those weapons. Why are you threatening us? Haven't enough lives been lost?" She paused, "If the Great Qin Dynasty's government were still in place, you'd be done for!"

If not for the guns trained on her classmates and teachers, Dongfang Bai would have already acted, disarming Ma Junsheng with an Air Grenade.

Hsu Yuvran signaled Dongfang Bai to hold back and addressed Ma Junsheng calmly, "Many have wished me dead. What makes you special? Go ahead, pull the trigger if you dare."

With that, he tilted the gun so it pointed directly at Ma Junsheng's face and nudged the muzzle forward for emphasis.

Although Ma Junsheng was tempted to pull the trigger, he hesitated. The thought of Hsu Yuvran being with his ex filled him with jealousy and revulsion.

Yet, considering there were witnesses around, he refrained. Killing someone could have severe consequences if the government were still operational.

Changing his approach, Ma Junsheng said with a malicious grin, "Listen, newcomers, this supermarket is our territory. We've got enough food to last for years. Would you like to stay?"

The new arrivals were initially stunned by the statement. However, seeing the guns in Ma Junsheng's crew's hands, they began to understand the situation.

Chatter broke out among the group, as everyone began to voice their opinions loudly.

"Young Master Ma, we'd like to stay," one said.

"There's so much food here, surely it won't make a difference if a few more people stayed," another chimed in.

"The world outside is too dangerous. We'd definitely prefer to stay here, Young Master Ma. You're so generous," added another.

Ma Junsheng frowned, clearly losing his patience. "Enough! Stop the noise. Look, you can stay, but I can't stand this guy. I'm not interested in protecting him. You have two choices: either you all stay and he leaves, or you all leave with him."

Everyone froze at his words. Dongfang Bai was incredibly shocked. She hadn't expected Ma Junsheng, a pampered rich kid, to come up with such a cruel proposition.

Staring down the barrels of seven or eight guns, everyone exchanged uneasy glances.

Over the past year, Hsu Yuvran had diligently stood guard for the group and contributed his best to the team. Everyone knew that.

But now, faced with Ma Junsheng's ultimatum and the looming threat of guns, the atmosphere became painfully awkward.

This place offered ample food and the security of firearms. It was clear that everyone wanted to stay.

Yet, no one had the heart to say that Hsu Yuvran should leave. If the frail guy ventured out alone, it would be a death sentence for him.

And leaving with Hsu Yuvran was out of the question for them.

Suppressing his anger, Hsu Yuvran looked at everyone's uncomfortable expressions and quickly caught on.

"Don't worry about it. I'll leave on my own," Hsu Yuvran said, turning to walk away.

Dongfang Bai swiftly grabbed his hand. "I'm coming with you!"

Ma Junsheng felt his anxiety spike. Dongfang Bai was far more beautiful than Xu Xin; he couldn't bear to let her leave.

"Listen, gorgeous, you don't want to go out there. It's suicidal. I have a gun; I can keep you safe," he urged.

At this, Xu Xin grew restless. If Dongfang Bai stayed, what would become of her status?

Xu Xin knew Ma Junsheng all too well.

"Who do you think you are? You're playing with fire!" she snapped, gauging the room's mood.

Dongfang Bai, fully aware of Xu Xin's relationship with Hsu Yuvran, retorted, "Well, I happen to be his current girlfriend!"

Her declaration sent ripples through the crowd.

Everyone knew Dongfang Bai, and they also knew Hsu Yuvran. Were they a couple?

With Xu Xin as his ex-girlfriend and Dongfang Bai as his current one, plus Ma Junsheng dating Xu Xin—it was all too much to absorb.

The relationships were a tangled web that needed untangling.

Ma Junsheng was livid, his eyes nearly popping out of his head.

'How does this guy get so lucky with women?' he wondered.

Ma Junsheng, holding his gun, was rendered speechless by Dongfang Bai's words.

Hsu Yuvran was taken aback but realized that Dongfang Bai was trying to protect him.

Not just him but also his self-esteem.

Grasping Dongfang Bai's hand, he softly said, "Let's go."

He didn't even give Ma Junsheng or Xu Xin a second glance.

Xu Xin smirked coldly. 'These two fools don't know who they're messing with.

Even if you two leave, Ma Junsheng will still protect me,' she thought.

'If you stay, you'll be risking an encounter with the Mutated Beast, not me.

Yuvran, don't blame me for this,' she mused.

'If you don't look out for yourself, you're doomed,' she reasoned.

Dongfang Bai looked long, searching at the people who had followed them.

She had protected this group of thirty-something people for over a year.

Always at the forefront, she had saved many lives.

But now, they all lowered their heads, unable to meet her gaze.

They seemed ashamed, or perhaps they were reveling in her misfortune.

None spoke up; none wanted to leave with them.

They all chose silence, letting Hsu Yuvran and Dongfang Bai go to secure their places.

At that moment, the depths of human selfishness, pettiness, and cowardice were laid bare.

Ma Junsheng and his group trained their guns on both of them.

Dongfang Bai's eyes flushed red with anger, but ultimately, she nodded as if coming to some understanding.

Hsu Yuvran turned and led Dongfang Bai into the darkness of the first floor.

Ma Junsheng rushed to the staircase, shouting, "Beauty, don't go! I didn't say you could leave!"

From the darkness, Dongfang Bai hissed a single word: "Scram!"
