C6 More Awakening Cultivators(2)

Eventually, Dongfang Bai decided to go to the rescue, though she knew she couldn't do it alone.

Dongfang Bai saw Hsu Yuvran hesitate and, both annoyed and amused, said, "Superman has been shot at, and Yang Guo lost an arm. Lighten up, Hsu Yuvran. I'll back you up!"

Hsu Yuvran snorted coldly and leaped down, declaring, "If they dare to cross the line again, they'll have hell to pay."

In truth, Hsu Yuvran never had an issue with Ma Junsheng.

But the experience of having a gun aimed at his head and being chased away did not sit well with him.

Dongfang Bai gave a wry smile, leaped to join him, and said, "You're tough, all right. I'll help you deal with them later."

Instead of taking the stairs, they made a daring jump from the building's outer wall.

During the descent, they found convenient touchpoints to slow their fall, landing gracefully within seconds.

They sprinted at full speed, covering the distance to the supermarket in less than three minutes.

Once there, they fought off mutated cats and rats as they entered the store.

The supermarket was a scene of chaos. Some people had tried to use its maze-like layout to elude the pack of wild dogs chasing them.

What they hadn't expected was that the store was already filled with over a hundred people, some armed.

Gunfire erupted within the store; some were shooting at the incoming pack of wild dogs, while others, in panic, fired at people in combat suits.

Some wild dogs took bullets but weren't downed; they lunged into the crowd, snapping and biting.

Seeing so many potential victims, the mutated cats and rats joined the fray.

The supermarket turned into a hellish battleground. Gunshots, cries of wounded beasts, and human screams filled the air.

Within minutes, more than a dozen people had died, and the second floor had become a war zone.

Ma Junsheng and his crew had retreated to a corner of the supermarket, using toppled shelves as a makeshift barricade.

Ma Junsheng grabbed Xu Xin by the neck and used her as a human shield.

Xu Xin was trembling, her feet soaked, as if she had almost lost control out of sheer terror.

He wondered if she was still grateful for aligning herself with Young Master Ma.

As the number of people seeking refuge here increased, Ma Junsheng was shaking in fear.

Though he held a gun, no bullet had been fired; his hands shook as though he was experiencing a cramp.

Just then, a wild dog prowling near the stairway let out a howl and was sent flying by a massive black shield.

A loud 'bang' resonated, and suddenly, an unexplained explosion of blood burst from the wild dog's abdomen.

Two figures leaped up from the first floor — Hsu Yuvran and Dongfang Bai.

Hsu Yuvran swung his shield, instantly sending several mutated beasts near the stairway flying.

Dongfang Bai waved her hand, and invisible air grenades obliterated the mutated beasts.

When Hsu Yuvran and Dongfang Bai arrived, the staircase was miraculously cleared of all the mutated beasts. They had barely stepped in and were already dramatically impacting the battle.

The arrival of these two shifted the tide of the battle, leaving the beleaguered group inside stunned.

'Who on Earth chased these two powerhouses away?' they wondered.

"Do these two have superpowers?" was the whispered question.

Yet, no one stopped to consider why these two had returned to rescue them.

Hsu Yuvran and Dongfang Bai ignored the crowd's musings. They noted that the wild dogs, larger than pigs, were causing most of the injuries.

The dogs focused only on the individuals in combat suits, gnawing at them continuously.

The firearms did little to deter the average wild dog and did not affect the alpha dogs.

The bullets made the alpha dogs stumble back but inflicted no harm.

The sight that met their eyes was horrific—blood everywhere, bodies strewn about, limbs severed, and a horde of mutated beasts feasting on the carnage.

Furious and with bloodshot eyes, Hsu Yuvran lifted his shield and began smashing into the mutated beasts without a word.

As much as the people inside were loathsome, they were still human beings. The bloodbath was too cruel even for them.

When Dongfang Bai saw the carnage, she felt a wave of nausea wash over her. Though she had killed her fair share of mutated beasts, she had never witnessed such a gruesome scene.

Ignoring her discomfort, she launched a volley of Air Grenades.

A series of deafening explosions followed; smaller mutated beasts were obliterated, while the larger ones were sent flying.

"Target those three big ones!" Hsu Yuvran called out urgently, signaling her to focus her grenades on the larger threats to draw their attention.

Dongfang Bai caught on immediately. She aimed her next set of Air Grenades directly at the stomachs of three imposing wild dogs.

Enraged and stimulated, the dogs shifted their focus towards them.

Meanwhile, two men in combat suits had already fallen. The survivors were making desperate last stands, using the last of their bullets to ward off the beasts.

One man, wielding a submachine gun, aimed poorly in Dongfang Bai's direction while trying to hit a large wild dog.

Acting swiftly, Hsu Yuvran anchored his large shield into the cement floor in front of her.

"Ding, ding, ding..." Just in time to deflect a hail of bullets.

"Damn, this thing can even stop a submachine gun!" Hsu Yuvran exclaimed, clearly impressed by his shield's capabilities.

With a casual wave of his hand, he unleashed a row of cement spikes from the ground.

"Swish, swish, swish …" Skewering an approaching large wild dog like a kebab.

'Take that,' he thought.

'My spikes are more powerful than a submachine gun.'

Armed with their respective abilities, the duo cut a swath through the mutated horde with ease.

Small beasts fell to Air Grenades while the larger threats met their end on Hsu Yuvran's earth spikes.

In places too crowded for explosives, Hsu Yuvran methodically used his spikes to kill off individual threats.

Their timely intervention quickly turned the tide.

Those armed with military firearms reorganized, and together they stabilized the situation on the supermarket's second floor.

Ma Junsheng and Xu Xin, hiding and trembling in a corner, were astonished to see the two fighters slay the mutated beasts as if they were divine warriors.

Only then did everyone understand that these two weren't ostracized; they simply chose not to associate with average people like themselves.

Ma Junsheng had once believed he was a big shot for driving Hsu Yuvran away. Now, he realized he was nothing but a fool.

If it weren't for the unexpected return of the two fighters, putting past grievances aside to save everyone, they all could have perished there.

Ten minutes later, the group finally eradicated all the mutated beasts on the second floor.

Despite the timely arrival of the two fighters, the incident still claimed the lives of over thirty people.

It remained uncertain how many survivors had been bitten by the beasts and were at risk of viral infection.

Among those who had escaped from campus alongside Dongfang Bai, several teachers and students lost their lives during the beast attack.

A teacher named Wang Zhi survived but was left trembling in a pool of blood.

Muttering unintelligibly, Wang Zhi appeared to have snapped from the intense emotional strain.

With human and mutated beast corpses littering the area, it was clear that the supermarket was no longer a safe refuge.

The two fighters learned some crucial news from those wearing combat suits.

Though the Main City Region had also lost many lives and was in chaos.

However, government troops had restored some semblance of order.

The government had employed these combat-suited individuals to find survivors.

Having located this group, they were ready to head back to the Main City Region, which was relatively safer.

Moreover, they mentioned something crucial: the Main City Region seemed to have many individuals who had awakened superpowers like themselves.

However, their knowledge was limited due to their low rank and lack of connection to that community. They only knew that the range of awakening abilities was fascinatingly diverse.

Both fighters found this news intriguing. Since they were planning to head to the Main City Region anyway, it provided an excellent opportunity to learn more.

After bidding farewell to the mercenaries, the two fighters prepared to leave the building.

The leader of the mercenaries grew anxious. "Aren't you two coming with us? It's safer if we all stick together."

Hsu Yuvran surveyed the second-floor survivors. He caught sight of Ma Junsheng, still quivering in the corner, and Xu Xin, who had wet herself.

Annoyed, he said, "All right, these wild dogs are dead. You should be safe on your own now."

Then he turned and followed Dongfang Bai down the stairs. ‌

Just then, Xu Xin broke free from Ma Junsheng's grip.

She ran after them, shouting, "Yuvran, save me! Take me with you!"

Ma Junsheng's eyes went cold as he watched this unfold.

His gaze followed Xu Xin and then shifted to the retreating figures of Hsu Yuvran and Dongfang Bai. He gritted his teeth in silent rage.

From the dark stairwell, Hsu Yuvran's voice echoed back with a single word: "Scram!"
