C1 Chapter 1 Unbelievable

In Xia City's Huai Yang District, on the shores of Liu Lake, a series of exquisitely decorated villas sprouted up from the earth. This exclusive enclave, known as the Green Cloud Bureau, ranked among the most luxurious villa communities in the city.

Within one of these two-story villas, Lin Yuan busied himself with a watering can, attentively tending to his flowers and plants. A collection of cleaning supplies lay nearby.

It was another big cleaning day, and despite the exhausting work, a contented smile played upon Lin Yuan's face, a sign of his underlying happiness.

Three months prior, Lin Yuan had arrived in Xia City and wed into the villa's owning family—the Bai Family. With nearly a century of history, the Bai Family was a household name in Xia City, and Lin Yuan had married Bai Shuang, a member of this illustrious clan.

Since becoming a son-in-law, Lin Yuan had assumed responsibility for all the domestic duties within the villa. From cooking to gardening, he managed every chore. It would be more accurate to say that the Bai Family had gained a housekeeper rather than a son-in-law!

Throughout these three months, Lin Yuan and Bai Shuang had not developed any emotional connection, much less shared a bed. Bai Shuang held Lin Yuan in contempt for his lackluster domestic role and reliance on his wife for the family's upkeep.

As a result, the couple had yet to consummate their marriage.

Suddenly, with a "Bang!" a lithe figure leapt from the wall top, swiftly landing behind Lin Yuan with such speed that it defied the abilities of an ordinary person.

"Boss, are you actually out here watering flowers?" The man gaped at Lin Yuan's activity, his disbelief evident.

"Is there a problem?" Lin Yuan replied without a glance, continuing to dote on his cherished blooms.

Zhao Feng watched Lin Yuan in silence before letting out a sigh. "Boss," he said, "if the Spear God knew you were here tending to flowers, what would he think of the First War God?"

"Spear God?" Lin Yuan's brow furrowed. "What about him? Is he still after me?"

"You're not aware?" Zhao Feng's eyes widened. "In the three months since you vanished, the Spear God has turned over every stone looking for you. But thanks to Sister Yao at our War God Shrine, he hasn't dared to stir up trouble."

When Zhao Feng mentioned the Spear God, his face took on a somber cast. Even Lin Yuan, with all his might, harbored a certain wariness towards this individual. His mastery of the spear was unparalleled, earning him the moniker of the underground Spear God.

Lin Yuan, on the other hand, was a force to be reckoned with. His prowess dominated the underworld, and to him, those so-called elite foreign special forces were nothing more than a ragtag bunch. He was also known by a formidable title, the War God.

In contrast to the Spear God, Lin Yuan was the undisputed deity of warfare. He had even founded the most significant underground faction, the War God Shrine, which had become the stuff of legends in the underworld.

"Boss, you have no idea. This guy nearly traveled the globe just for the chance to challenge you for the thirty-seventh time. If he finds out you're here, I fear..."

"And you still came to find me!" Lin Yuan interjected with a glare and a raised voice.

"I just wanted to see what you were up to," Zhao Feng replied, his face the picture of innocence. "I never expected to find you here, tending to the flowers and mopping the floor."

"What do you know? This is love!" Lin Yuan retorted with a dismissive flick of his wrist.

After a moment of silence, Zhao Feng spoke again, his voice heavy with concern, "Boss, are you truly not planning to return? The brothers are all worried about you, and Sister Yao..."

At the mention of Sister Yao, Lin Yuan's expression darkened, and he shook his head. "I'm not going back. Pass on my regards to everyone and let them know I'm alright."

"Okay," Zhao Feng replied, shaking his head in resignation. It seemed that the War God, once the terror of the underworld, was indeed ready to hang up his armor. "Just one more thing, Boss. Be careful of the Spear God. I haven't given away your location, but you know what he's capable of. It won't be long before he tracks you down."

Lin Yuan nearly lost his temper enough to send Zhao Feng flying with a kick. He wasn't afraid of the Spear God; what he dreaded was the thought of that man disrupting his peaceful retirement.

Suddenly, a thunderous roar interrupted his thoughts. Lin Yuan barely had time to react before a Pagani zoomed past his front gate, prompting a wry smile. "That kid never changes, still as brash as ever."

It wasn't until the afternoon that Lin Yuan leisurely finished cleaning the villa. He reclined in a chair, donned his sunglasses, and gazed at the sunset, watching the fiery clouds ascend. He checked the time; Bai Shuang should be finishing work about now.

Boom!

As expected, Lin Yuan watched a Mercedes-Benz pull into the Bai Family's villa.

To him, the million-dollar Mercedes was nothing more than scrap metal; his attention was captivated by the slender woman behind the wheel.

With Lin Yuan's hopeful eyes upon her, a statuesque silhouette gracefully stepped out of the car. Her long, shapely legs, clad in black stockings, touched down first, irresistibly drawing the eye.

She was impeccably dressed in professional attire, her black skirt hugging her waist and accentuating her stunning figure.

Even more breathtaking was her delicate face. Her eyes sparkled like stars, and her fair complexion was subtly enhanced by makeup. In that moment, she seemed ethereal, her beauty so mesmerizing that it was hard to look away. She was, without question, a woman of unparalleled allure.

The only downside was the icy aura she exuded, giving off the impression she was unapproachable, as distant as the horizon.

"Wife, you're back?" Lin Yuan hurried over with a smile that conveyed his inner delight.

Bai Shuang gave him a cool glance, her beautiful eyes betraying a hint of disdain. She had little affection for Lin Yuan. He was lazy and utterly worthless, practically a parasite in society! And yet, she had ended up marrying this man.

If there was one redeeming quality about him, it was his obedience to her, akin to that of a personal attendant. His dependence on marrying into wealth for his livelihood only deepened Bai Shuang's contempt.

Shouldn't a man strive to succeed on his own merits? Living off a woman, such a man hardly deserved the title, let alone the honor of being her husband!

"Come here!" Suddenly, Bai Shuang's lovely face turned frosty as she fixed her gaze on a particular spot amidst the flowers and foliage, her expression turning sour.

"What's the matter?" Lin Yuan approached, puzzled.

"What's happened to this flower?" Bai Shuang pointed to a wilted bloom and questioned.

"Could they be sick?" Lin Yuan was baffled, unsure of Bai Shuang's implication.

"Sick?" Bai Shuang was momentarily at a loss for words, then her voice grew icy. "It's clear that you've neglected them, and that's why they've ended up like this!"

"Uh..." Lin Yuan, gazing at Bai Shuang's exquisite features, was at a loss for her true meaning.

"If you can't even take care of a single flower, how are you supposed to take care of me?" Bai Shuang snorted coldly, leaving Lin Yuan at a loss for words.

"Well then, I'll be discussing a divorce with my father tomorrow. Are you okay with that?" Bai Shuang narrowed her eyes menacingly.

"This..." Lin Yuan hesitated, then a sly smile crept across his face. "It's not really up to me, is it? I suppose we'll need my father-in-law's input on that matter."

Lin Yuan spread his hands in a show of resignation, but internally he was smug, having pinpointed Bai Shuang's vulnerability.

Bai Shuang was deeply respectful of her father, so much so that she barely hesitated when Lin Beitian arranged her marriage to Lin Yuan.

Of course, had she known what Lin Yuan would be like as a husband, she surely wouldn't have rushed into it.

With a look of frustration, Bai Shuang flicked her hair and sashayed into the villa, with Lin Yuan hot on her heels.

Casting him a look of disdain, Bai Shuang's mind raced with wicked thoughts.

"Lin Yuan, go wash my socks! They cost hundreds of yuan per pair, so hand-wash them!" she commanded, bending over to peel off her black thigh-high stockings, revealing her pale, soft legs.

Lin Yuan froze, captivated by the sight of her lustrous, ivory legs, as perfect as if bestowed by the heavens themselves.

"Did you hear me?" Bai Shuang snapped, noticing Lin Yuan's stupefied gaze.

Fine! You don't want a divorce? I have plenty of ways to make you beg for one!

"Sure thing!" Lin Yuan suddenly flashed a wide grin, delighted at the prospect of washing his wife's socks.

"You!" Bai Shuang's anger flared at his reaction. She pointed towards the door and barked, "Get lost! I don't want to see you around here!"

Bai Shuang realized then that this man would stoop to any low to secure his place among the elite, devoid of any moral compass.

"Wait, Lin Yuan, come back!" she called out abruptly, her voice icy with a new demand.

Lin Yuan hurried back, stockings in hand, and looked at Bai Shuang with earnest concern. "Wife, is there anything else you need?"

"Change the sheets in my room to new ones. And wash my car!" Bai Shuang said, her voice laced with a mocking chill as she regarded Lin Yuan.

These chores weren't typically his responsibility; even laundry was usually a task for the washing machine. Today, she was unmistakably giving Lin Yuan a hard time.

"This..." Lin Yuan began, his voice trailing off with uncertainty.

"What's the matter? You don't want to do it? If you're not willing, then let's just get a divorce!" Bai Shuang retorted sharply.

"No, it's not that, wife. I just changed the sheets yesterday." Lin Yuan looked at her, bewildered. It had been less than two days, and the sheets were already dirty. What on earth had she been doing in bed?

Lin Yuan's thoughts began to drift.

"I'm pleased with it! Is it any of your business?" Bai Shuang challenged, tilting her snow-white chin defiantly. "So, will you do it or not?"

"Fine," Lin Yuan conceded, his head drooping, but then he suddenly looked up with a forced smile. "Wife, the sheets are changed. Should I change the duvet cover too?"

Watching Lin Yuan's pitiful display, Bai Shuang clenched her teeth in frustration and strode toward the bathroom without a backward glance.

She had a long-standing routine of bathing both before work and after returning home— a habit that hadn't changed even after Lin Yuan moved in three months ago.

Lin Yuan watched Bai Shuang walk away, his eyes filled with adoration. He was truly fond of this girl. But as soon as Bai Shuang disappeared into the bathroom, Lin Yuan's gaze turned icy, a stark contrast to his previous demeanor.

He understood that although his wife was a stern CEO, she had never been this unreasonable with him at home. He had noticed the lingering irritation in Bai Shuang's eyes as soon as she stepped out of the car—someone had clearly upset her.

And now, he was the one bearing the brunt of her frustration.
