C13 Personal Bodyguard

Ye XiaoXiao was taken aback by the news. While abroad, she had caught wind of Bai Shuang's abrupt wedding to a pretty boy. At the time, she was surprised but didn't dwell on it—it was a marriage arranged by family elders, after all. However, it was becoming clear that there was more complexity to their relationship than she had initially thought.

"Go back to your room and rest. Xiaoxiao and I need to talk," Bai Shuang said, her brow furrowed as she gave Lin Yuan a chilly look.

Lin Yuan just shrugged, unfazed, and flashed Ye XiaoXiao a smile before leaving the living room for his own room.

Minutes later, the door burst open, and Bai Shuang stood at the threshold. "Xiaoxiao is my best friend, and she'll be staying here for a while. I want you to be clear about our relationship and avoid any odd behavior," she stated firmly, making it evident that she didn't want Ye XiaoXiao to misinterpret their connection.

"Sure thing, wife," Lin Yuan replied with a grin, returning his attention to his book.

Somehow, Bai Shuang found herself less resistant to Lin Yuan's seemingly resigned behavior than before.

She turned and left, closing the door behind her. Just then, Lin Yuan's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and his face turned grave. It was Zhao Feng, and he wouldn't call unless it was urgent.

"Boss, someone's infiltrated Xia City with lethal weapons, clearly targeting your sister-in-law," Zhao Feng reported.

"I need details," Lin Yuan demanded, his tone icy.

"They're lurking near the sister-in-law's company. The analysis suggests they'll make their move tomorrow. Should I send someone to handle them?" Zhao Feng asked.

For the War God Shrine, reigning over the underworld, eliminating these assassins was trivial. Yet, Lin Yuan let out a cold laugh on the phone.

"There's no need," he said curtly before hanging up.

Zhao Feng shuddered as he put down the phone, feeling the chill of Lin Yuan's murderous intent even through the digital connection. Those assassins were as good as dead.

Lin Yuan, upon learning of the impending killer threat, wasn't overly shocked. He had sensed they were being followed and had anticipated an attempt on their lives soon enough. And he was right.

"If it weren't for the fear of Spear God meddling, you all would have been dead many times over by now," Lin Yuan muttered under his breath.

It was overkill for the War God to handle these minor assassins. Yet, the might of the War God Shrine couldn't be wielded carelessly; if Spear God got wind of it, the ensuing trouble would be a real headache.

Concerned about the possibility of assassins striking at night, Lin Yuan kept his eyes closed, resting but not sleeping. As the night remained undisturbed, he grew confident that the assassins would make their move at the company today.

In the morning, he left the villa to escort Bai Shuang to the company. Upon reaching the CEO's office door, he encountered a woman.

Standing there was a tall, well-proportioned young woman with sharp eyes and short hair.

With just one glance at Lin Yuan, she smiled—a clear sign of her formidable martial arts skills, honed through professional training.

As Lin Yuan caught her eye, she looked up, gave him a dismissive shake of her head, and then approached Bai Shuang.

"I'm Suen Lianhua, hired by your father for your personal protection. Feel free to call and confirm," she said.

Initially puzzled, Bai Shuang seemed to catch on, picking up her phone with a slight frown.

The call connected quickly, confirming the bodyguard was indeed sent by her family.

The details were vague over the phone; it simply cautioned Bai Shuang to be careful and emphasized the hefty price paid for Suen Lianhua's expert protection, assuring it was utterly reliable.

Lin Yuan couldn't help but smile from the sidelines. Bai Shuang's father was truly a master strategist, an old fox through and through. He had already secured a top-tier protector like Lin Yuan for her.

Yet, he remained anxious, going so far as to set up a contingency. He might have brought in Suen Lianhua as a decoy to divert attention, but who would guess that Bai Shuang's true guardian was her seemingly unassuming husband?

Bai Shuang gestured for both to enter the CEO's office.

Lin Yuan, of course, stayed by her side.

Bai Shuang sat in her chair, perusing the personal dossier laid out before her.

It was clear that her father had spared no expense this time; the individual he had brought in, Suen Lianhua, was no ordinary person.

Born into a family steeped in martial arts tradition, her prowess was formidable. As an adult, she joined the military, serving a solid three years. Rumor had it she had earned numerous commendations before an unforeseen incident prompted her departure.

Subsequently, the country's premier security firm snapped her up, offering a hefty sum for her expertise as a consultant for their female bodyguard division. She took on the role of safeguarding the nation's most influential women.

Over her two-year tenure, she tackled ten assignments without a single slip-up, even when pitted against the elite of the Black Water Mercenary Group, an international force to be reckoned with.

Word on the street was that the Bai Family had to leverage their extensive network to secure her services; money alone might not have been enough to attract such a talent.

Having digested the details, Bai Shuang couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration. There's a mutual respect that powerful women share.

Yet, when her gaze shifted to Lin Yuan, the contempt was unmistakable. Despite Suen Lianhua being a woman, she seemed leagues ahead of Lin Yuan in every aspect.

Her eyes practically spelled it out: "Take a good look at her, then look at yourself."

Lin Yuan, for his part, simply shrugged nonchalantly and continued to survey his surroundings.

"Given the circumstances, I'll make sure you have proper accommodations. You won't be shortchanged," Bai Shuang declared as she rose to her feet, her tone reflecting the respect she held for her new bodyguard.

But Suen Lianhua was quick to refuse with a firm shake of her head.

"My assignment is to provide close protection, which means I'll be sharing a room with you. There's no need to arrange separate lodging for me."

Initially, Bai Shuang bristled at the thought. Even with another woman, the idea of someone invading her personal space was unsettling. But then it dawned on her.

This arrangement would keep Lin Yuan at bay, which, in fact, suited her just fine. With that realization, she immediately nodded in agreement.

As she pondered, she turned only to realize that Lin Yuan, who had been at the doorway moments before, had vanished without a trace.

Meanwhile, Lin Yuan had made his way downstairs and was casually strolling around the entrance of the company. He surveyed his surroundings with a keen eye, and upon finding the perfect vantage point, his lips curled into a smile as he headed to the coffee shop across from the entrance.

Nestled in the bustling business district, the company building didn't offer much of a view, except for this coffee shop. From here, Lin Yuan could keep a watchful eye on the entire entrance. Should anyone draw near, he'd be the first to notice.

Settling in with a cup of coffee by the window, Lin Yuan relaxed into the moment. With Suen Lianhua on the scene, he might not need to lift a finger today. It was the perfect opportunity to gauge her business acumen.

"Looks like I can take it easy today," he mused, savoring his coffee with a contented expression.

Observing a few seemingly ordinary pedestrians edging closer to the company's entrance, Lin Yuan couldn't help but smile. The assassins were well-concealed; only those with a discerning eye could spot them.

It wasn't until the midday break that Bai Shuang, accompanied by Suen Lianhua, made her way to the company's entrance. Initially unfazed, Lin Yuan's composure lasted only a few seconds before a furrow creased his brow, prompting him to hastily exit the coffee shop and head towards them.
